Looking forward to helping test out Rift, it's the only mmo coming out in the near future I have an interest in, just hopes the pvp is decent, the lack of info about pvp in the game so far is a little disconserning.

I don t think it s very pvp centric at all. I could be wrong but I think it s more of a pve game with some pvp thrown in.

It is both pve and pvp centric. The fact that they designed FACTION VS FACTION as one of the core mechanics should say a lot about how they view the importance of PVP when designing the game as a whole. They are essentially doing what WoW is doing by offering a healthy dose of both pve and pvp modes of play. They are not mutually exclusive of one another.

I do hope you re right, but we can t really say, factions alone doesn t make it as pvp centric as pve. We ll see, not enough info to know for sure.

I am. =)  And yes, Factions vs Factions, or as some might say RvR is a core pvp setup. Can you name a PvE centric game that featured  RvR? RvR(faction vs faction), even as part of the character creation and race selection is not part of the PvEcentric mind set. Faction conflict that exists the moment you create your character, the act of choosing a side is a huge PVPcentric design element. Even the PvE player cannot avoid it.

Part of Trion's dynamic game play includes Rifts obviously, which represent the PvE side, but also the PvP element of fighting over Rifts and also PVPVE events caused by them.

I think it will be a fairly balanced game. Trion knows that the PVP player will also partake in PvE as a means of character progression, but the PvE only player represents a small minority since they only partake of one aspect of the game. Most gamers like a bit of both and thats how the game has been designed.

...You are suggesting PvP does not happen in WoW? I might recommend you play the game again because PvP still makes up a huge part of it...and i case you forgot WoW is dominating the market by leaps and bounds. Furthermore, WoW doesnt have RvR elements, it IS RvR. Horde vs Alliance is a core pvp mechanic.

Now if you are suggesting Wold PvP has gone from WoW, then thats a completely different subject now isnt it?

Ofc it's not. I don't call some shitty 10v10 minimaps pvp and definitely not rvr. If you are suggesting it's gonna be also pvp centric because it's going to have warfronts then I'm afraid you simply didn't answer Leucent's question.

I'm still waiting on my VIP email too and its 11:17am here in LA. I'm not too concerned. Even if something goes wrong I'm sure that Rift employee posting the thread on the official forums can be pinged and will resolve it after the fact. I'm sure she will provide some type of instructions for those that fall through the cracks.

WTF!? they put a disclaimer at the bottom of their page to say its NOT something? It's not even called RIFTS, its Rift. Then yes, this game could very well blow fat ass.

Hahaha! I found this whole little journey of discovery hugely amusing. The most amusing part was when SloppyApe called Sebali "kid" in his hugely immature response. Ah, irony. Okay, I'm done trolling now.

The patcher sucks, everyone is getting errors.

If you downloaded 4 gb and receive an error, you have to start all over again

This is why you let users download the game 1 or 2 weeks and not 2 days before the beta starts.

  • bronecarbronecar Member Posts: 685

So I take it VIP codes are guaranteed BETA access?

I remember reading sometime ago they don't. Something changed in the meantime?

Must be nice to have got a VIP key at all. Oh well have fun all and test the crap outta that game.

This is a recent issue. Game installed flawlessly last night for most who started then.

Yeah, giving the download link to people 2 days before beta is a stupid thing, I got an error at 2 gb, I was like screw this shit

    And then gave up...

    With a download rate of 100 kb/s restarting a 6gb download is a luxury

Sad reality is that this is only a beta event. There is no real obligation to ensure a flawless release of a beta client before a beta event. In fact the mass release of a client through a new patcher is part of the beta itself.

There are many other game beta events out there over the last years where the whole event was utterly and competely unplayable. So far this seems to be far better overall. Hopefully this is just a glitch that can be worked out.

Im just pointing out that they should have released the downloader earlier to exactly prevent these kind of unexpected errors ( Which obviously are expected in a beta)

Most developers I know of rarely have the luxury of  tons of time to pretest tests. Oh I do agree it sucks.

Evidently there is a Recover option that when clicked can resume the patching. Mine worked fine and I am not able to view it atm (about to leave work) but worth keeping an eye out for to resolve some of the errors. Although not sure why any of this is being discussed outside of beta forums lol.
