A bit of time-proven (I've been Beta testing this game for 2 years now) advice to all players who regardless of all its shortcomings still want to play; it WILL save you a lot of grief and re-rolling.
1. Foot/Mounted Melee/Archer or Miner (everything combat and mining related):
Thursar-Khurite, Age 23
Strenght: 110
Dexterity: 104
Constitution: 116
Intelligence: Irrelevant
Psyche: Irrelevant
This character incorporates the all-around best attributes you could pick for your fighter/archer, regardless if you want to fight from foot or from horseback. The Dexterity - even though the game is currently horribly broken and only calculates Dexterity as 100 - will allow you to catch/keep up with Mages on foot, anything below that and you'll be handicapped considering every single Closed Beta player rolled this Melee build.
2. Foot/Mounted Mage (everything you need magic related):
Veela-Veela Age 22
Strenght: Irrelevant
Dexterity: 120
Constitution: 100
Intelligence: 106 (off the top of my head, irrelevant really) EDIT - Just checked, its actually 92, my bad.
Psyche 102
This is the character you want to roll for all things related to Magic. Only thing you'll be doing is
a) Healing
b) Running away from people
c) Suicide-earthquaking
Once the game's Dexterity bug(atm everyone has flatline 100 Dex regardless of cap) is fixed, this build is going to be un-catchable on foot because of the 120 Dex. Forget all ideas of roleplaying an old and wise mage, you're a glass cannon that does less DPS then Melee. In short, you will be a Healbot barring the ocassional times the guild you join will require you to suicide-earthquake and run naked into a large group to AOE them. Half the time, someone in that group will be smart and will cast Magic Reflection, which will result in you exploding instantly on casting due to reflected damage.
3. Weapon/Armor/Extractor Crafters (everything you need crafting related):
Huergar-Huergar Age 60+
All the attributes are irrelevant besides Intelligence which you want to be 110+ to get the biggest attribute bonus on your skills. As a crafter once you join a guild, you'll promptly be chained to a table and fed resources to mass-produce whatever is the FOTM weapon/armor combination (for Extractors you might need to move a little bit but not really relevant).
Thats about it, roll anything BUT these 3 builds for a specific role and you'll be severely gimping your character from the get-go. Best advice I can give to new players is to forget all the fluff about "living your character" because it simply doesn't work. And join a guild, guilds provide free armor and free weapons; everything is farmed and produced on large-scale because there's simply nothing to do in-game besides:
a) Farm
b) PVP
c) Umm... Farm Wisents for gold (approx. worth is 20-25 silver per Wisent)
Comments
currently those are the best builds to go with but with many more balance changes and a mention of race specific advantages and disadvantages i wouldnt be to concerned with your exact build.
there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
