well who cares about this 14 year old fart. come on now guys, he said diablo 2 sucked, diablo 2 had its time at launch and when it first came out and know more than half of you loved that game and the rest were ok about it. this guy has no taste, one guys opnion, maybe he should go back to CS and stay away from the MMO world. he is gonna go buy COH over this...yea ok lol, i would understand WoW or MxO or FF11 but COH lol

I agree with the OP, except for a bit different reasoning.

Don't buy this game if you are expecting an MMORPG with no monthly fee.

Sure, it has no monthly fee, but it is definitely not an MMORPG; the same way Diablo is not an MMORPG. This has already been said and is known. Buying two copies of a game when this was common knowledge before release was foolish. I agree with everyone there.

The graphics are nice, but so far I haven't seen the gameplay depth of even Morrowind. So I'd actually recommend that game over GW if you are looking for a good RPG experience. GW has the multiplayer PVP part, which appeals to lots... If you like the multiplayer part, then Morrowind won't "do it" for you. But if you like multiplayer like WoW... PERSISTENCE... Don't buy this game.

So I guess I want to say, don't buy this game if you are looking for an alternative to WoW.

Also, I completely agree with the jumping thing. Why is it so hard to have jumping in a game? Even if it serves no purpose other than the goofy animation. If devs are tired of people jumping all the time everywhere they go, just make jumping use energy or something. If for nothing else, when I see someone jump the whole time they run down a path or bouncing around other people, it serves as a great guide to that person's maturity level so I don't have to find out the hard way.

Rationalize all you want about why you don't care, but it's not just the lack of jumping--something that is expected to be in a game like this--it's begging the question, what else is missing? Maybe nothing, maybe everything. Depends who you ask, I guess.

Bottom line, if you grade this game next to Diablo II, you can righteously sing praises for all to hear. It's a great game on that level. But I wish it would stop being compared to--and rated against--other MMORPGs. Because that, it is not.

"Now you got to excuse me girls. I gotta go beat up mom and dad so I can buy me City of Heroes, unless I buy it for the receit I got back after I returned the unopened copy of GW...PS: Keep it coming! You are an exellent example of the "ingame community"

EXACTLY...... have fun in wasting your parents money once again... lol parents money haha... i would come flame guild wars to if i bought two copies that mommy bought me and i didn't like it.

Shame on me, I even bought 2 copies of this junk game. I would hardly even call this game for a MMORPG; you get your own "copy" of the world when you enter it. You cant even jump here, and yes THATS a big issue when you play a MMORPG. Damnit, its not PacMan or what?? Grrr... and the 8 slots for skills to use is ridicolous. I feel like Im playing an old game with polished GFX. I'd rather spend time on Morrowind than this.

From the FAQs over at http://www.guildwars.com

Is Guild Wars an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game)?

Guild Wars has some similarities to existing MMORPGs, but it also has some key differences. Like existing MMOs, Guild Wars is played entirely online in a secure hosted environment. Thousands of players inhabit the same virtual world. Players can meet new friends in gathering places like towns and outposts where they form parties and go questing with them. Unlike many MMOs, when players form a party and embark upon a quest in Guild Wars, they get their own private copy of the area where the quest takes place. This design eliminates some of the frustrating gameplay elements commonly associated with MMOs, such as spawn camping, kill stealing, and lines to complete a quest.

Your GW Fanboi a$$ forgot to add...

"Rather than labeling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game). Guild Wars was designed from the ground up to create the best possible competitive role-playing experience. Success in Guild Wars is always the result of player skill, not time spent playing or the size of one's guild. As characters progress, they acquire a diverse set of skills and items, enabling them to use new strategies in combat. Players can do battle in open arenas or compete in guild-vs-guild warfare or the international tournament. Engaging in combat is always the player's choice, however; there is no player-killing in cooperative areas of the world."

Even if their native language isn't English (weird that there actually are people like that huh? Oh, I'm one of them as well), they'll still do their best to communicate in English.

That I will agree, but then again I suffered from inferior complex, so I never actually got the courage to talk to people to party up with... ::::38::

    To the original poster,
You could have heard of "caveat emptor", right? If not, I suggest you grow up and return here only if you mastered Common Sense 101.

Since we're on the topic of "Don't Buy This!", to all fellow MMORPG and potential players,

    1. This game IS technically an MMORPG, although it doesn't has that EQ-flavoured MMORG. (I'm not going through the details. Check other posts on GW's MMORPG definition.)
    2. You want open PvP? Not here. There are plenty of games (including one from NCSoft) that give you the opportunity to grief people in the open. Here we called it "arenas".
    3. If you're a casual gamer, and don't want to spend (or waste) your entire time levelling up, you MIGHT try this game.
    4. Finally, check with your local games vendor for refund issues. "Caveat emptor."

Finally, I can rest this post in peace.

they don't say it's not a MMORPG, just that they'd prefer it not to be called one. The tag MMORPG has as many negative connotations as positive ones.

    ---sig---

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...

I beg your pardon. What is your point? I was addressing a specific issue the poster brought up: "your own private copy of the area". I wasn't talking about whether it was or wasn't defined as a MMORPG, and, frankly, don't care. I was addressing gameplay, not elitist dichotomy.

    Have a nice day.

Yeah yeah, calling me names makes you SOOOOO smart. Look here funny little Einstein. I rate both Might & Magic, Morrowind & Baldurs Gate higher than D2. If Im not totally wrong, Im sure you would have sendt the other copy in the mail to your friend instead of getting a receit back....

How smart do you need to be to understand that there are places in the world where you cant buy PC games in stores? So my guess is that you are either:

    1. From the land of burgers

    2. A stupid redneck from the land of burgers.

Pick you chice fat little ugly troll, then crawl back under the bridge, heres nothing for you to feed upon. -thxbye

    To the rest:

I hate the games from NCSoft,  Im perfectly entitled to say that + warn others before they buy them. Comparing GW with D2 says alot more about GW than D2. Im major MMORPG fan, I have used to play 15hrs a day on these games. Well, until I got fed up with WoW and bought this utterly rubbish "Guild Wars".

Now Im playing Football Manager 2005. Would I play FM 2005 if I thought it was worth playing GW? Yeah right, Im sure even that smartass little Einstein punk knows the answer on this one. I will continue with FM 2005 until I either reactivate my WoW or AO accounts, or if I happen to cross another MMORPG that interests me.

Chrisel, don't you think your being a little bit of a hypocrit calling other people trolls? Besides I really dont know why you so mad... especially at others for playing the game and liking it. *shrugs* ever heard of the saying "whatever floats your boat"?

I can understand you getting mad at people who call you an idiot or something. Heh, but i think you get the word "Flaming" wrong. Just because people disagree with your post constructively doesnt mean their flaming you their just disagreeing with you.

Just wow! It goes to show you know nothing about the creators of Guild Wars...pfft NCsoft did not develop Guild Wars...do a little research on it then come back when you get your facts straight.

Your narrow mnded posts will not make people change their mind about Guild Wars, but if they did, it's from a constructive post.

Dude, NCsoft had nothing to do with the creation of Guild Wars. ArenaNet the developer made it without any influence from the publisher. The publisher just put their logo on the movies and box.
