I picked up WoW last month and just got around to playing it.Most mmo's are pretty deep games and at some point make it to where you DONT feel like logging in.Ive been playing about a week or so and i gotta say that this game is giving me something ive not had in a long while.
FUN!!
I dont look at a game as being all graphics to make it a good game.As a matter of fact the graphics in this game are just fine. The unrealistic graphics keep it in context. It is a constant reminder of what it is A GAME.The simplicity of the game itself is refreshing after playing games like EQ2 and EvE.(nothing wrong with those games im not bashing them).
I am not going to get into reveiwing the game but it has a lot of elements of the mmo genre in it while staying unique to itself.

Lol so true... although i was created and led a guild of 50 of the highest level wizzards in one game... we kind of killled everyone and that was good ^_^
<Insert siggy here>
Yes, I think that that is the intangible quality of WoW that makes it such a popular recommendation for many, especially people who are new to the MMOG genre. It is a fun game, but that lack of depth does exact a price for some of us gamers (myself included).
I am hoping they'll add more depth (unrelated to PvP) with expansions over time. I have two accounts (two xmas presents) that I'd love to go romping with again provided I can do something more engaging than simply oogling the bloom effects.
LoL you played only one week, how can you possibly bored after a week.
Even playing Lineage 2 for 1 week is fun (although it is the most boring game I ever played).
Anyway I agree, WoW is fun, but for me it is not addictive as other games.
I still have an account, and now that I quit EQ2, I am thinking of reactivating the account and give it another go.
I played WoW, it got boring. Quests is the only thing you can do in that game.
I had a blast when I started playing WoW too. Good luck and have fun!

You are actually not the only one.
Even I am playing it, while I still feel EQ2 is a vastly superior game as far as quality and depth, Wow is simply a great game to log on a couple hours here or there to have some fun.
I only play about 4 to 6 hours or so a week, But it to me is absolutly perfect for that.
EQ2 will remain my primary game for guild raids, much like UO will remain my primary game for PVP.
Now I find it rather depressing that I have to play 3 completely different games to achieve the three basic desires I have as a gamer..but Until something come's onto the market that combines them..thats what I have to live with.
Well i admit i am a bit jaded.Having played sooo many other mmo's and being frustrated im starting to think that WoW is just about perfect for me.
It has this intangible quality that has hooked me for some reason. It may be that i can log in and actually accomplish something and not have to play for 5 hours straight.
I play for about 2 to 3 hours a day sometimes not at all so yeah 1.5 million people cant be wrong i suppose.
What im wondering though is if im the only veteran of mmo's that is going through this as well?Could it be that the ease of gameplay is appealing to veterans who have seen the good games AND the bad?

I remember I didn't give WoW a fair shake. I was able to get into the Stress Test and the Fileplanet Open Beta, but both times I was so wrapped up in the impending release of EQ2, hoping to relive the glory of the EQ days, that I never really let it be fun. It was more of a time-waster until I could get my hands on EQ2.
So I wasted a little over a month playing EQ2, after which, finally realizing that the original talent for that game had indeed left SOE or otherwise been muted by the behemoth's takeover of creative direction... Some friends, perhaps smarter than me, had left EQ2 and been already playing WoW. Begrudgingly (since I am a bit stubborn), I joined them after searching a for about week at local stores for a copy of the game.
That was when I finally played the game and saw it for what it was worth. And I can say, you are right... It's just good old fun.
So fast-forward to today. Two active accounts, several characters, joining guilds, raiding, PvP... This game is an instant classic.
The only thing I can fault to WoW is that it's missing a certain seriousness that other games have. It could be argued that the attitude of the game is a bit too light to be a long-lived classic like EQ. The graphics and animations all sort of point to that (/dance is a big one), but some of the names of NPCs, animations, quest objectives, etc. may sort of break immersion once in a while...
But on the other hand, maybe seriousness is an idealistic element that perhaps I don't need in a game. Sort of like dreaming about the wholesome family values and societal bliss of the 1950s... It never really existed except in our imaginations and Leave It To Beaver, so how can we get there again? And do we really want to return there if we could?
A tangent, I know... But if a game isn't light and fun, then what should it be? Do we really want games that take themselves too seriously, turning us into hungry slathering chair zombies? Waiting for that next treat to roll out of the slot when we press that little red button? Or do we want more games like WoW that have plenty of comic-relief so we remember we are human, and in turn make it easy on our asses by not requiring enormous blocks of chair time?
Who knows?

Hey ya know i figure im paying to play because i WANT to have fun.Now if that means a simplistic system so be it.
The seriousness in games that supposedly adds more realism i can do without.I got enough real life seriousness to deal with.Besides the point that in most games that DO take themselves serious there is no way to settle arguments in game over land rights etc etc.
At least in WoW you KNOW where you stand when you see a horde or alliance player.Even better try a PvP server and its basically everyman for himself outside of towns and such.

Just so you know, your fun will end after about a month when there is nothing left to do exept play stacked and repetitive PvP, and raids that are usually over run with 10-13 year olds.
Don't get me wrong, WoW isn't all bad. Like I said...it is fun for a month, but after that you will find yourself leaving most likely.
Yeah, that would explain the massive decline in WoW's subscription numbers since the game's release six months ago.
Oh no... Wait a sec... There wasn't one.
Anyway, good to see more and more EQ2 die-hard MMO snobs finally begrudgingly accepting WoW for what it is - an extremely entertaining game, which is all a game should ever need be.
i played until lvl 40 around in beta and knew already that i saw the game
its really strange all those games i beta tested for longer i never subscribed to
After playing SWG for a year and half, WoW was welcomed alternative. I could care less about character depth when a game has that much content at all levels.
The only issue that I have with the game is server stability.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
Exactly the same situation here, i played my last month mostly because i had friends in the game.
