"Notice: We can't stress this enough. When the launcher is running the patch installer, let it run its course. It will take some time to apply the patch and it might seem like the installer is doing nothing, but it is working. If you reboot or kill the patcher process you run the risk of corrupting you installation, forcing you to do a full reinstall."

Can you even call that launcher? But you choose whether this game is worth to buy or no.

I dunno, when Windows pushes a patch to my computer it instructs me in bold letters not to turn it off or interupt the patching process in any way. Seems to be pretty standard practice with almost any software one choses to install so not sure what is so different here?

you do havea valid point there!
Why would you want to turn off the computer meanwhile updating?
It's not just MO that suggests you not to turn off the computer while installing patches, it's also companies like Windows and PS3 aswell.
Common sense plix.

I'm not a fan of a game that charges for busted, incomplete software...but I have to agree. They should have put something in telling the user that the patcher is active...but he's at least giving people a head's up to let them know what to do. This is a pretty minor thing.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
/agree
Any kind of tiny popup saying "Please don't close the computer, or the setup, or it will corrupt your gamefiles" would be most liked.
I have to agree with everyone except the op
Innfact what he is saying is: "The patcher runs perfectly, let it do the job".
Yes. I wouldnt never bought the game if I knew we're dealing with kids here. I contacted support and they were just careless. CEO acknowledges the launcher is broken. No single word of how fixing it or no apologies.
You just let it run for how ever long it takes for it to complete. Go get a coffee or something. The issue isn't that the patcher isn't patching, it's that it isn't telling you it's doing something.
*edit* But no, I wouldn't have bought the game either. This particular thing (to me) is pretty minor compared to the game play issues. My post was done early in the AM and I probably didn't make that clear...this isn't a big deal.

Installing patch... please wait
This may take several minutes.

Client is up to date.
Ready!

The notice you provided is there with every single update. All that he is saying is that if you stop the patcher when it has applied some parts of the patch and not others, it may be unable to resume at the exact spot where it was interrupted, resulting in places where the new code gets added multiple times and/or places where the changes in code don't get applied at all. As others in this thread have already pointed out, this is true of other programs.
The simple answer---- when it says "please wait" you wait ; when it says "Ready!" it's ready
Is your complaint the fact that patching takes to long, or is there some way in which the launcher is ACTUALLY broken?
OP, tell me you just wanted to cause drama, not that you really didn't knew that interrupting ANY patching process for ANY software may cause troubles..
Seriously, people here sometimes seem to be dumber then my shoes.
Haha i see MANY confusd here,i actually remember this buggy patcher from way back in BEta,and i guess it is stil lnot fixed...sad really,no effort shown there by the dev.
There is NO windows telling you to not shut down, there is no patching at all,all it is a screen that never connects, never loads anything,it actually looks like it is bugged/locked up whatever, but definitely NO patching. You can leave it for up to 5 minutes and still nothing happens, this is why people like myself shut it down 20 or so times, before i actually got "lucky".
I went to get something to eat,and sat down and actually forgot i had the patcher still in the background of my browser, and easily 5+ minutes later, probably close to 10,the patcher just popped forward to my screen and started patching,i was like wtf?No it was not patching like the dev says it does, when it popped forward on my screen,it started at it's first kb of d/l.So it just basically took forever to actually connect and start the download.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I would not mix up critical OS files and a game. I can interrupt any other MMOS patching process and proceed it later with out any issues, so your argument is invalid.
And by patching you mean patch download, which can be interrupted and resumed in MO just as well.
Shut down patching of any software and pray it won't get corrupted so you wont have to reinstall.
Installing process of patches should never be interrupted for any software-I thought its a common knowledge, but damn I learn new things about humans day by day-unfortunately about how retarded humanity became.
No. Don't put words in my mouth, thank you. I meant exactly what I said- patching process. The process when the patch is applied to the game, not when you are downloading it. Just to prove my point, I downloaded latest WAR patch and interrupted it half way through INSTALLATION. I could then resume without any issues.
Good software always make sure aborted patching can resume where it stopped or restart from beginning at least. That goes for any MMO I've played and that is why MO patcher is crap.
Well Mortal Online can resume where it stopped or restart from the beginning very easily. Infact I do it on occasion with particularly large patches. If I run into any problems I check check client integrity scan and the updater automatically fixes them.
So basically you defined "Good Software" as being exactly what Mortal Online patcher is... Good Software....
Maybe your confusing Mortal Online today as it was in the beta?
Never trust a screenshot or a youtube video without a version stamp!
Well, I can't say that I've tried hard to interrupt the patching proccess of my MMO's or any other software, but the few times it happened for one reason or another resulted in unpredictable results in at least 1/2 of the occasions.
I'm not saying that a great patcher wouldn't give you lots of warnings not to turn it off, or self recover from d/c's or what have you, but from what I've read about MO updating the patcher isn't very high on the critical issues list and its understandable that if it mostly works best to leave it alone for now.
