There was a lot of talk, and I believe some form of official announcement, that SWTOR was due for a Spring 2011 launch. 'Spring' now seems to be out of the mix - simply because they don't mention it any more - and, as has already been mentioned, FY2012 does stretch all the way to April 2012. The new change in emphasis does seem to suugest that development isn't going as smoothly as planned - though, that said, there never was an MMO whose launch date wasn't put back at least three or four times during development.
Your comment is just as speculative as the date they provided to begin with. How do you know that a stretch in the date means something is not going smoothly? Maybe they decided to add additional requirements or increase the scope of the game based on feedback and that integrating these enhancements that were not part of the original requirements will require extra time? Regardless, not saying Spring does not mean it wont be Spring...though I agree with you that based on prior MMOs I wouldnt be suprised if it was pushed back. Better that than a Star Trek experience of rushing a game to meet a date.
We know it may not be going smoothly because of industry background chat, like the receant EALouse blog, and because of the late addition of features that seem shallow and improvised, like the rail shooter space element.
Whoa, wait a minute.
I think we at least need to discount this EALouse blog as there really is no credence to it being true.
I read the blog and then read the responses and from what I've seen people were saying that this EALouse was basically reinforcing everything that people knew or were speculating.
I'm amazed that no one took the next step and realized that perhaps this person took everything that people knew or speculated and then repackaged it under this blog as truth from an insider.
People are so quick to adopt any negativity from any unknown users without an actual shred of proof that they aren't pulling a fast one.
Not saying it can't be true but I've seen no smoking gun that indicates that it was absolute solid information.

You say, 'people are so quick to adopty any negativity...' well, actually EALouse's credentials were confirmed by Ray Muzyka of Bioware himself. That's the boss. And, of course, his assertion that that game's development might be in trouble is confirmed rather than weakened by the fact that Bioware now seems to have abandined the 'Spring 2011 launch date' for a more general 'FY 2012' target.

Financial year 2012 starts in spring of 2011.
Just FYI
And Ray would neither confirm nor deny EAlouse and simply refused to comment or give him/her any attention.
Also the Financial year 2012 comment was made to a... bunch of accountants.... not to a bunch of gamers who were told spring 2011...

That doesnt mean anything. Using the rail shooter to support that stance is just trolling since all it was meant for was a side event to the core gameplay, a welcome add-on to something most of us were not expecting at all. If it has some type of racing event, you will probably say that is on rails too. Rails to most of us for side events or extra bonus features isnt a bad thing. Just because it didn't meet your sandbox expectations doesnt mean the development is not going smoothly.
By the way, vaguely mentioning things such as 'background chat' is nothing but heresay, something a lot of posters seem to mistakenly confuse with fact.

Ugh, where was this confirmed? If I recall correctly the questions about EAlouse were mostly ignored. Last time you claimed BioWare said crafting was an afterthought and you turned out to be a total liar.
Why the hell are we still discussing louse? The guy had one hell of a motive to bash anything and everything to do with EA. SWTOR is a big deal, why wouldn't he bash it.

Agreed. Im not worried about the bashing. When individuals are desperately holding on to EAlouse and chanting words like 'background chatter', I know that the game is heading in the right directlon due to that desperation.

Most "normal" people don't care what the blog says or even know about the blog.
As for Muzyka confirming EA Louse -- You're reaching.. you are reaching so far to pull some source of credibility and you're coming up short. Muzyka didn't confirm or deny the claims that the guy was even an employee and subsequently went on to say the entire premise of his claims was rumor. The blogger himself commented on many different things and was confirmed by another actual former employee to be incorrect. He never worked on TOR as a project, stepped foot in the studio or even lived in the same timezone as the studio working on it.
Using his blog as any source of credibility shows how completely off base and shallow jabs at TOR are getting. If you really wanted to point a finger at a game, citing that blog, with any shred of confidence of ever being taken seriously, you should stick to the points the blogger made about the game he claimed to have worked on, WAR. (which he was also proven wrong about on the one point that could be confirmed by another confirmed employee).
Also, they haven't abandoned Spring of 2011, the target date specified here could very well fall within that time period still.

Well, if you're right, the game will come out in Spring 2011. If you're too optimistic and misled by some adolescent obsessions with the franchise, it won't. Personally, I think it won't.
All this aside but still attaining to timing it will be interesting to see if they have a tv advertising campaign like cata. Common sense states that they would have to be exceptionally confident in their infrastructure and game.
Launches of mmo's are notouriously horid at best, they are intrinsically unpredictable and a wider audience not familiar with mmo launch history are going to be less forgiving (as we have been seeing in the last few years). Either way we will have a deffinate deadline if they do and we will know for sure that they are confident they can have a clean launch, will be interesting.

Meh, here we go again, another long and pointless - and slightly thread derailing - discussion about a release date this time, people falling into the same old roles of opponents and proponents of SWTOR/Bioware. Seriously
Shrug. MMORPG's getting delayed or having changing release dates, wow, we have never seen that before with MMORPG's, have we? Oh, wait...
Whatever people like to read in it is up to themselves, it doesn't make it any less speculative though and subject to multiple interpretations. Rumor mongering aside, we'll see automatically next year when it'll be and how Bioware will approach the launch of their game. I prefer a Q2 release, but if not I don't mind, it'll be a busy MMO year anyway in 2011 with all those MMORPG's that will arrive in 2011-early 2012.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
All of the issues i've seen being discussed as problems just seem as the norm with any MMO. If they do delay it, its because they wanted to delay it to make a good game.
As for mister EA. Whether he worked at EA or not, what he wrote came off as very unprofessional and borderline child like. and the jab at ToR which was like one paragraph out of 6 is a poor one at that. He posts things like they are most proud of their sound. 300M all on sound
which we know as false. If 300M was spent on sound then where did the money for the world quests, group quest, story quests. PVp (open and instanced) characters, worlds and crafting come from?
This is one person (that worked at a studio that layed him off, so he had a motive) trying to swing at everything he could in order to get even. If there was a real issue here, we would be hearing mutliple people (like in the double digits at least) sounding off and giving off red flags. I know personally one person who got fired from my job for sleeping and started bad mouthing the business. So again this person has a clear motive to hurt mythic and anything it might be attached and the most likely target which happens to be their next project which shock is ToR.
Lets try and stick to facts we can prove as argument points instead of taking a person word thats on a blog with no sited evendence to bag up his claims, i'm refering to the ToR part not him being a mythic employee.
As for the release date. I'd prefer them release it when it's finished, if they need to keep pushing it back, push it back. I'm glad they are leaving themselves a large window to release.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
Everything I see leads me to believe they really would like to get this out in spring 2011. What concerns me is they'll release it even if it's not entirely complete just to get a jump on all the other mmo's that are set to come out in 2011. I hope the game is a finished and polished...or at least as polished as any mmo can be...product upon release.
This game isnt going to be out in spring 2011. Too many things can make a game late, very little can make it on time or early. Personally I hope its the second half of 2011 and the game is done right with few bugs. Early next year I expect they will announce a new release date / timeframe and my guess is Sept 2011.
I would put a hefty sum of cash on late May(Launch) with a 90day-style patch, but around mid july. My guess is large scale beta beginning in Feb and expanding to full beta (open/mass closed) around april 15th(Friday).
If they have a large CB start up in Feb then July is a good guess but I have doubts that will happen. I expect the larger beta to begin closer to March/April and if its 3 months it would end close to july/aug pushing OB into closer to Sept. TIme will tell but there is no way this is coming out in the spring. If large scale CB starts in January and last 3 months, then OB for at least a month thats already May. Between CB and OB a game this size probably has a minimum of 4-5 months planned of large scale CB and OB, thats almost half a year of testing that hasnt begun and likely wont be in the next month either.

I have to admit I know absolutely nothing about the beta process. I've never been part of a beta and never really want to be part of a beta. However, they've been player testing the game since July. Then there's all that news about the survey thing which seems to imply they are indeed getting ready to start the beta process. There doesn't seem to be a standard time length for beta's, so I don't really know what that means in relation to a release date.

Personally I don't care when it releases. If it comes out in any of the seasons of 2011 I'll be okay with that, if it gets released in 2012, I may be a little disappointed but this isn't the only game I'm waiting for or will be playing. We can all make a shot in the dark here about when we think the game will release, but the company, in the end, will be the one releasing the game.
No matter if I say it will launch in spring or winter, the company will release it when they decide to release it. This doesn't have to be a thing, right now with the information they've released they are painting a picture of a specific release date, if they change that, so what? I'm sure if they won't hit their target they will append to their previous statements.
Whoa, wait a minute.
I know that many, many supporters of this game have been trying to discredit EALouse but, fanbois aside, most normal people accept there is a large element of truth in what he has said.
Delay's now mean the game is in trouble? Guess every single game ever made was in trouble.
EALouse was obvious bull. Didn't they even say later on they actually knew nothing about TOR? Many people discredit EALouse because they was in rage mode because they was about to get laid off. No element of truth to what they said about TOR especially since they had no part at all in the game.
Let us hope that is the case, because we all remember what happened to that *other* Star Wars mmorpg that released too early...

What mmorpg is that? If you're referring to SWG, then as far as I know it's release was no worse than any other. Rather what happened to it is they changed the game completely a good while *after* launch. A change that was by no means for the better according to the players. Afterwards the players...nearly all of them...left.

There was nothing that waiting to release SWG could have fixed, most of the bugs that plagued the game existed from it's inception until they totally changed it with the NGE. With that being the case you could argue that the design should have been altogether different but it's not like it released with a bunch of problems and then fixed those problems but too late to get the public back. Designed as a sandbox with no content for casual and typical gamers is what doomed it to it's low numbers and the NGE regardless of what many say doesn't solve those problems at all.
I'm used to SOE showing a willingness to release broken content to the public and hoping they can fix it down the line, for the most part all of Biowares games have been of the highest quality and so I'll just expect the same until I see differently.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
So we got lucas arts, the same people that gave us SWG. EA the same people that brought us warhammer online. Bioware is mostly about console games so I have a hard time thinking this game is going to be a successfull MMO. This has shameless money grab written all over it. How many more MMO's are we going to have to put up with that just try and use name recognition to sell garbage games? I guess we could hope these companies learned from past failures but I'm not going to bet on it.

Only Biowares most recent games have been for consoles, and that not exclusively. Only two of it's games started as exclusive to consoles. Overall they have much more experience with pc games than they do consoles.

But here have another bandwagon to jump on
/care about EAlouse.
There Is Always Hope!
There Is Always Hope!

Gaming since Avalon Hill was making board games.
Played SWG, EVE, Fallen Earth, LOTRO, Rift, Vanguard, WoW, SWTOR, TSW, Tera
Tried Aoc, Aion, EQII, RoM, Vindictus, Darkfail, DDO, GW, PotBS

Just a pure guess, but trying to stay on target.
Personally I don't care when it releases.
