Well in all the discussion of the review, no one has mentioned the interview. It's largely information that will already be known to anyone following MO, and the questions are fairly routine, but I figured I'd link it anyway.
Here are two of the answers that will be at least notable to some one following MO.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MMORPG.COM: Briefly can you tell the readers why they should close their subscriptions to any other MMORPG's and head to sign up page of Mortal Online. |
Henrick: Well, I wouldn’t tell anyone to close their current subscription in another MMO game, but if you feel that you would want to try something different, something that presents quite a challenge and real gaming experience in forms of the ability to give you an adrenaline rush when playing, then you should really give Mortal Online a try. When you start getting the idea of Mortal Online you will see why so many others like this dangerous, unforgiving world. We are also deploying new content and features included in the monthly fee and all future expansions are free.
A tacit admission that this game is not for everyone. If you enjoy the game you currently play, don't abandon it for MO, but if you like the features, come check it out and stay if you like what it has to offer. (then abandon the game you are playing now)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|
Henrick: The learning curve in Mortal Online is pretty tough at the moment; we are expanding ”new player” experience in the game at the moment so we don’t scare off players that may enjoy the game once passed the initial hurdles. The fighting system is very intuitive but other systems, like for example crafting, are extremely complex and require some time learning them.
The new player experience and learning curve are harsh and it is gratifying to know that that is one of the things they are actively working on.
(...just wondering how long it is before someone points to this interview as evidence of bias in the review)

But people cannot "check it out" as SV will not give a free trial (due to the horrendous state of the game).
What he is actually saying is "give us your money please, as our company is about to go bust and I promised a 25% increase in subs to my shareholders". He probably doesn't care if you stay subbed at this point, Henrik is the guy who tries to baffle his shareholders by holding up forum registrations as an indicator of the health of the game population. All he wants is the cash to survive Q4 and hang onto his title of "CEO, Game Designer and Developer". The only one of those that is true is CEO, and once his father realises the money pit he has thrown his cash into he won't have that either.
The game is hardily in a horrendous state, it has a few small bugs and a lack of things to do after a few months of play. More content is all that's needed.
You don't even play MO, you said so yourself. So you obviously think the game is not in an acceptable state or you would still be playing.
Otherwise, why are you not playing? With all the praise you have heaped on MO here, I find your lack of a subscription odd. Do you also think there should be a free trial then? If not, why not? Other PvP games do it, so no reason to worry about mule accounts and griefing etc, unless SV lack the skills to code the protections needed of course ...
Yeah, you being teleported to sausage lake after your horse dies is indeed a small bug..
