My level 10 adventures (new player experience)

So I started playing WAR a week ago.  My sister plays it, she's level 40 and RR 75.    She's bored and wanted to start a new char so I said why not try it we usually like the same games.

At this stage in my life I have no interest in grinding.  Very little, and she knows that.  I just can't grind in MMO's anymore I don't have 5-10 hours a day to spend on a game I work two jobs.

So I log in, and the first thing I notice is the customization is very lacking.  You basically are going to look like what you pick, and in the end your choices won't matter since they'll be covered up with armor.  That's fine.  I've never been really big on customization.

The graphics?  I set the settings all the way up as high as they could go on my brand new computer and... looks like WoW.   Didn't this come out after WoW and around the same time as Age of Conan?  Oh well.  No biggy, graphics don't make a game for me.

What does make a game for me is accessibility.

After all, I don't have a lot of time.

Leveling;

The good -

If you can get a group together to do public quests or PVP you hardly even notice that you ARE leveling, and it can be very fun.

The bad - the servers are so empty it's almost impossible to find a PVE group early levels.  In the past week I've only been in one group that really tried to do PQ's together and such.

Mythic is also under the impression that the more quests they have the better.  Fetch quests, kill quests...  quantity doesn't make them any better.  They're still just a means to an end.  No one likes driving in their car for 20 hours at a time, then why even bother adding these in? No one wants their game to be driving a grind from point a to b.  Give the player something fun.  I can do a few fetch/kill quests and not complain too much but this game is full of them.  I never played WoW so please leave the WoW comments (go back to WoW noob!0 out.

Public quests are brilliant and fun.  Honestly these should be the ONLY quests in the world, and the game world should be smaller.

On the other hand...   Public quests have barely anyone in them.  If you do have people in one, the item drops are absolute crap for how difficult some of them are (Pilgrims Pillage or whatever it's called is a good example)  and people don't do them because of the item drops.  So why hasn't this been fixed?  One guy could change this very easily.  Just give players three items to choose from that are nice items.  Fixed.    This is so sad because honestly Public Quests are the ONLY thing that's original that i've seen so far in this game and they don't even bother utilizing them to their full potential.

Broken quests.  There are broken quests that are unable to be completed.  You can also break quests by running from an enemy and then killing them outside the quest bubble.  Great.  How hard is it to delete the code that activates for a quest that's broken if you can't afford to hire someone to fix it?

Everyone looks the same.  As weird as this sounds, I just don't feel like anyone looks original or unique and personally I'm sick of seeing humans all over the place for the "good guys".  Dwarves are still humans, they've just got stunted growth hormones.  Elves just have long ears.  Doesn't count.

RVR and PVP can be fun, but what really detracts from the fun is the fact that A. Zerging is a serious problem, and B. AFK/leaching can also be a problem.   If you log on any other time other than Prime Time you're basically going to spend a lot of time doing 4v10's and 5v15's because hardly anyone is on to come help.  How hard is it to limit people from creating new Destro characters if that side has the advantage?  So many over sights that are easy to fix and easy to implement.  Having a little experience in programming I know that you can just have a check to see if a variable is 1 or 0 and if it's 0 don't let people join and give them a message as to why (too many people logged on as Destro atm there is a 2 to 1 ratio of people logged in, please wait).    Or whatever.

Not to mention that on Gorfang my character is YET to actually join a scenario due to population issues.  It's been a week.  Still hasn't loaded a scenario.  While on Badlands I got 3 in one hour.  Might be time to do what they did with DAOC...  one server cluster.

From reading this you'd think I wouldn't bother to subscribe.

On the contrary.  Given these problems, this game is still better than every other game out there.  I also refuse to play WoW.    I guess i'm just confused why this game doesn't take a month out to get the game in it's best shape (fixing PQ's, grinding, population issues)  and start providing solid gameplay on a regular basis.  Who's running this show?

Oh Gorfang.  That's going to be tough if you have to stay there to play with your sister.

The only really viable server anymore is Badlands.

At most hours of the day you can get an SC on demand on Badlands in tier 1 and 2.

Public quests are awesome and Warhammer invented them.  They're being impelemted in other games too.

The regular PVE quests are a bit lacking but most people wouldn't be caught dead doing them.

The game revolves around PVP and if there's not enough people on your server to run SCs often, your game experience will be lacking.

If I were you and playing on a different server than your sister isn't a problem, I'd roll on Badlands.  Even if you only have a few hours a day to play you should be able to play a bunch of SCs.

Trust me, don't judge WAR on its Tier 1 and this is coming from someone who considers T1 one of the best MMO experiences I've ever witnessed, in both PvE and PvP. WAR basically fails due to it's faulty mechanics that are overly-reliant on numbers. Don't have enough players? Well, you just can't do PQs, open RvR or Scenarios.

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.

You'll get a choice of PQ awards after chapter 5, and usually it's just like you said, a choice of three.

Warhammer Online trial is a bit of a misfire IMO - not a true representation of the game, it's better and worse.  A lot say the RvR is best T1, well, if you like what is basically deathmatch then yeah.  But if you like organised RvR it sucks.
