the game population is very low, don't be fooled. it seems like more then half the players are alt accounts. i have even seen people 6 boxing and you'll be hard to find anyone who plays regularly having less then 2 accounts.

yepp i'd sayt here is 2-3 accounts logged in at same time per 50% of player base so the 1k users willbe about 4-500 people pretty much ghost town.

its busy enough for me.
ps i didnt make this thread to read negativity
i like to tell it how it is, i'm not some fanboy living in a dreamland. if you feel offended by the truth then maybe forums aren't the best place for you. the game is HIGHLY multi-accounted, and i think people need to know that before buying. i myself even have more then one account. yes i do play the game. and yes i do somewhat like it. even so i'm not going to sit here hype up something thats not..
It is no different than eve, if you have more than one account, each character can specialize and you get further with the skills you can get.
The population seems to be about as high as eve was in its first month. This game has far more potential, just needs the guiding hands of the very active devs.
The game looks interesting. However, I'm getting a bit jaded as far as MMOs go these days. When they have a free trial (even if it's just a day or three), I'll probably end up subscribing for a while. Till then, I'm going to give it a pass. Don't get me wrong, I'm very interested, lots of good stuff about this game that appear promising.
There are definitely ALOT of players with multiple accounts. But the population seems to be climbing everyday. Oh and Honkie you don't seem to be that interested if you're not willing to try the game for $3 :P

offended please. it was the way you told me has nothing to do with the truth. i think the poplation is ok for now granted needs to be bigger

I'm interested enough that, once there is a free trial, I'll probably start buying time. I'd just rather take a tour before paying the rent.
Of course, if it takes too long, I'll just feel behind the curve, like Eve, and pass altogether. So we'll see. Plenty of other good stuff out there.

At the moment you will be far behind the early star crowd that got about 4 weeks (20000 extra ep and one week more playtime untill launch plus one week after launch) head start that difference will become smaller later on but its huge right now.

Skill progression is like EvE. The longer you wait for a "free trial" the longer your just hurting yourself if you have any true interest in this game....
It's 10 dollars. 10 dollars. That's like 2 beers at a bar or a fast food meal. What is wrong with you people? That is free in my book....lol

I'll second that. $10bucks is two things: Nothing, and a good way to help an indie developer. Actually even if this isn't my main game, I plan on keeping 2 accounts of mine active just incase I want to go back and am not far behind.
But the real question, how is the population. Its solid. If you want to do everything currently offered in the game, YOU CAN. Sure people multi-box, I tri-box myself when I mine/harvest. Sure the actual user numbers are inflated because of this, but more people keep coming because of: They want a new MMO, and the upfront cost to try it for a month is staggering low. If you think you may want to play this, I'd say hop on for a couple months($23.00 for 3 months is nothing really) and you'll get a good feel of where the game is headed and if its your cup of tea currently, if not you can always resub and still have a decently effective character when you come back.
I said in a previous post that I will probably drop my 10 bucks on later in the week. And 4-500 people isn't a bad population for a sand box. 1,000-2,000 is ideal in my book. But the game is young still. And if they do box copies in the long run I think more people will trickle in. I'm interested to see though what the long term plan is story wise.
For someone like me who is tired of greedy companies like Cryptic charging $50 a box and $15 a month plus $10 a ship for a beta-state game like STO, it is awesome to find an indie group who is serious about making a fun game and not trying to take my money. Does the game have the content of WoW or Eve, nope. Does it have great graphics like FFIV or LOTRO, again no. Is it different from the other MMO's and fun to play, YES.
If I could have started Eve back in the early days I would have and that is the same way I am looking at Perpetuum. I'm jumping in now, playing a bit here and there and racking up skills while the devs continue to make it a great game. When a publisher is found and the box copies start selling, you will wish you jumped in now and saved a few bucks. You can get a year of the game for $72, thats $6 a month! A lot of you talk about how crappy some of the existing game companies are, here is your chance to support an indie company, trying to do things right. If this game can grow like Eve, then CCP is not a fluke and others will be more willing to go the indie route and build good games without looking to charge the pants off its customer base like Cryptic does.
To answer the OP, I am on the starter island, building my money up a bit before moving out. I have never been alone in the game, there are always other playing no matter where I go. When I find a good mining spot I try to hide my mech behind something so others dont see me mining and come over and mine my spot. I would honestly guess the world has between 500 and 1000 players on at any given time.
