The official Star Wars: The Old Republic site has been updated with a pair of articles over the weekend. The first features the news that the Jedi Wizard has been renamed and the second reveals more information about the recently announced 'crew' skills system.
SUBJ: Closer Look at Crew Skills
Systems Designer Patrick Malott examines the Crew Skills system, and shares details about Armstech.
I’m Patrick Malott. I’ve worked as a Game Systems Designer on various titles over the years, but what we’re working on here at BioWare Austin is my dream project: Star Wars™: The Old Republic™. In my current role, designing and building out the Crew Skills system is one of the biggest projects I’m involved in. As a passionate multiplayer online gamer myself, I know that crafting is a critical part of the experience for many of you, and I’m dedicated to making sure you enjoy the way it works in The Old Republic. In this blog, I want to shed some light on the design decisions we’re making with Crew Skills… and I might just drop a few new specifics on the Armstech crafting skill.
A few weeks ago, we asked the community to help us rename the Jedi Wizard advanced class. Thousands of votes and many posts full of lively debate later, the polls have closed, and we have a clear winner! Find out the new, fan-chosen name for the Jedi Wizard advanced class!

I'm soooo glad they changed the name. I think Sage is very becoming of my vision of a consular. Even fits into real world references towards the sages of old pagan Europe and the stories in the Vedas and other hindu scriptures from india.

Not really.
ill give some credit for this... good idea in asking the players (well community )
Jedi Wizard was one of the most retarded things I'd ever heard of. Now if only they would rename Sith Sorcerer. This isn't Diablo or WoW, we are in a futuristic setting(although its a long time ago in a far away place).
meh call it whatever. How's it play???

Warbot you do realize there are Sith Sorcerers in the Star Wars lore right?
Wait, so BW actually was more worried about the name of a less obscure class like Wizard than Jedi Knight?? I would almost bet that the Jedi Knight class rename had more rant threads/posts than the wizard title. Really shows how little BW pays attention.
It makes no sense to worry about canon of one title and not the other. BW still fails.
The term Sorceror in SW is a "phrase", not an actual class or practice. Nice try though. Much like how Merlin is referred to as a magician or wizard, but he was actually a druid.
Well, they are good at renaming an unfitting class name, yet they fail to properly use French phrases in English speech by spelling them wrong.. which makes me realize how they came up with the crappy class name in the first place. And without further adieu, Bioware wins!
lmao... i can only imagine hearing this argument in person and actually spoken out loud... haha
I think sage is a pretty lame name too, almost just as bad as wizard. I would have gone with adept or something.
Let the nerdfest begin:
Jedi Sage was derived from lore. Wizard was not.
Sorcerers are a term from lore... deal with it.
Sith Sorcerer
Sorcerers of Rhand
Sorcerers of Tund
Sorcerer: Slang for a Force-sensitive, used by Conan Antonio Motti to refer to Darth Vader.
It's also pretty common to use "magic" related terms when speaking of dark force users... such as the Witches of Dathomir, Sith Sorcery, Sith Alchemy...
What they need to look at really is the Bounty Hunter advanced class name for tanks. While the RDPS is the "Mercenary"... the Tank is the "Powertech"...
The Bounty Hunter Powertech...
Funny comment, because it's so wrong. The objections that most people had was with Jedi Wizard, zero to none people had problem with the term 'Jedi Knight'. Well, except you apparently
But hey, I get it, gotta find the flaws or things to complain about SWTOR wherever you can find them, eh?
Hmmm, I don't know.

Yeah, I opted for Jedi Adept too, 2nd choice Seer.
But in the poll the majority of voters went for Sage, so that's what it became.

I have never been much of a crafter, but the way this sounds could make even me a little more interested in crafting. I like the idea of multi-tasking in such a way. I am definetely intrigued to say the least and enjoyed this short, little article.

Jedi Sage isn't that much better than Wizard. I mean for anyone that played FFIV, isn't that the difference between being able to cast both schools of magic and only one? It's still going to play like a caster no matter what you call it I guess, eh eh guys? Ehhh?
Honestly, I don't think Bioware's strong suit is going to come inside of class design and mechanics so I find it odd that they actually worried about what they call it. If it looks like a wizard, talks like a wizard, acts like a wizard, dagnabbit it must be a wizard....or sage... Potato or potatoe, its all trivial but hey at least it shows Bioware is listening to their would-be consumers? Hrmmm....
