I think Guild Wars is a great game. Having lots of fun playing it.

WoW lasted me about 3 weeks before it got really boring. If I can get 3 weeks or more out of GW, its well worth $50...

I wish people would stop bashing Diablo2, I mean that and the predecessor really was a great game. Sure it had it's faults and wasn't for everyone but it was for most people, hugely addictive and great fun. It had cool music for an immersive atmosphere and appealed to the collecter instinct. The lvling could some to a grind but I actually enjoyed going through the game the old fashion way everytime. Furthermore the game was free on a monthly basis and still got some support. Even though it wasn't a MMORPG it had some similarities and modern day games sure could use some of the flavouring and it just proves we or better the industry haven't come as far as we'd like to think if we gotta pull ten/five year old games as comparison.

Btw Draci(e?)l, I suggest you visit the site from time to time. The rating of all games plummeted with the release of GW by .5 points. This can't have been due to the users because it fell the same amount with all games available. WoW to a 7.8 from formerly 8.3 or so, so please don't make such baseless claims.

In general I don't think it's the WoW fanboys anyway that necessarily bash this game, not saying there aren't any but the majority will be players whose expectations haven't been met.

I will never downrate a game simply to make another games rating look better.  People should rate games based on their experience playing them.  If WoW doesn't deserve a 1, don't rate it that.  Personally I haven't played the game so I won't rate it (even though I have an opinion on the game).

Games ratings will go down naturally as new, better games are released anyways.  People look back on the games they have rated and should adjust them based on how it stands against todays games.  I imagine the release of GW will make all other online RPG scores go down slightly because it raises the bar, not because people are falsely rating other games.

The same thing that makes you go back to Starcraft, DiabloII, Warcraft3 etc... good programming and a rich gameplay experience will keep me coming back.

Of course WoW will be around much longer, because long after GW fans have seen the endgame, WoW fanbois will still be walking to that next quest....

My PC kicks arse, and I still pick up DiabloII (just played it a couple months ago) and Warcraft3.. because they are great games not because my system can't handle anything more advanced.

I also enjoy playing classic 16 bit side scrollers on an Amiga emulator, old 8-bit NES games on a Nintendo emulator and my N64,... and I have a PS2, Gamecube and XBox...

So you know ONE answer.. but it's not the only answer. A classic game can withstand the test of time... it's all about gameplay, not antialiasing and fps.

One of the most fun games I ever played was a text based BBS door called Hack and Slash... only required a dumb terminal and a modem...

I got some friends that plays Diablo 2, at least did it 1 year ago. They all had so shitty PC's that they couldnt play anymore "advanced" games on their PC's. I tried to get them into some real MMORPG's, but they couldnt afford to get new PC's, plain & simple, which they happily admitted.

I would rather say that the GW trolls ASSUME the WoW trolls havent played GW...
Another difference is that the GW players burst into flames, when other people states their opinion. GW fanbois start to harass, call them names etc etc until the thread gets locked.
The users of this GW forum got NO manners.

Notice I said few of the WoW trolls.. not all. I know theirs some WoW trolls here that picked up the game for a few minutes, or played a little in a beta nitpicking for the smallest things they didn't like, then come here trash talking when they know very little about the game.

One word: Starcraft. The lead designer for Starcraft also happens to be the lead designer for... you guessed it... Guild Wars.

Secondly. there will be expansions if people want tons of new PvE content (although there is no requirement to purchase if you want to keep playing as it is). ArenaNet has said they plan to release just as much content in future expansions as they did in the original game.

Honestly i do not see thi sgame replacing any mmorpg i would play, but only because it is not an mmorpg.  i have played it several times and it is a very enjoyable game, good graphics, but mostly an online single player game...were u can PvP, and team up in a group when u want comapny. look at the game for what it is and it is a very enjoyable game.

Lordmiz:  You need to spend more time ingame and maeby get a freind or 2 ingame as well..  Calling this a single player game just isint true. Most quests and all PVPing is done by teams.  If you disagree. then try doing quests after desert alone and see how far you get.  :)

I only read the first couple of posts but please. I've played both Guild Wars and World of Warcraft. Neither is a simple game for simple minds. They're just different. World of Warcraft had to start out better than Guild Wars has to for the simple fact you'll be paying a monthly fee. Guild Wars true test as to whether or not it will succeed will in my opinion depend on the next chapter's installment. If we can look forward to great new content, it will continue to be a success.. if the next chapter doesn't really have anything new or exciting to offer, it wont be as great.

Simply put without being a bias fanboy and dising a game that isn't my favorite... they're both fun, I've enjoyed them both. The only reason I play Guild Wars is because 1) No montly fee, 2) WoW kept Crashing on me and tech support said they would look into it and I never heard from them again.

As far as Guild Wars goes though, I think it becomes more fun the more you play. It can seem boring at first untill you do missions and "unlock" new places. Once you get to the Lion's Arch and such, it's really pretty.

Same reason people play other games 2, 6 yrs down the road -- they enjoy playing the game.

While you may not think Guild Wars can be a fun game, others find that it is. So what?!

There must be a market out there for people who like to PvP, otherwise why would many of the MMO's exist today? EQ2 is implementing something in the near future. CoH just released Arena's. DAoC's endgame is pretty much PvP. We could go on discussing many of the games out there, but I think it's safe to say there is a market for it.

The idea of creating a PvP or a RP character is pretty cool. Traditionally, if you wanted to try another class, you had to sit there and grind all the way back up through content you've already been through. In GW you can skip the grind and play. Even DAoC offers bonus or free levels as a way to get players through the grind and to the end game quicker.

The no subscription fee is awesome. I can buy the game and not have to worry if I'm playing enough per month to justify my subscription. If I'm going to be busy and unable to play for a couple weeks or more, I don't have to think about canceling my account and then resubscribing. With GW I can login whenever I want and not concern myself with monthly fees.
