Fallen Earth: Quarantine of Monkeytown

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Fallen Earth devs have provided MMORPG.com readers with some brand new screenshots and a developer diary about the destruction of Monkeytown. Disease had run rampant through Monkeytown and the only way to avoid greater contamination was to burn the town to the ground. Check out the Quarantine of Monkeytown and a pair of screens. More will be coming in the weeks ahead. Be sure to leave a comment below.

Our reason for destroying Monkeytown was simple: the apocalypse is a dangerous time, and no one is safe. This is a theme that will become more and more integral to Fallen Earth in the future. Also, from a practical standpoint, Monkeytown was a good choice due to its size. Our small team was able to completely remake it in a short amount of time.

An ever-changing, albeit slowly changing world environment does a lot to keep the game fresh. I enjoy my time in Fallen Earth. Keep up the good work.

Gaming since Avalon Hill was making board games.

Played SWG, EVE, Fallen Earth, LOTRO, Rift, Vanguard, WoW, SWTOR, TSW, Tera
Tried Aoc, Aion, EQII, RoM, Vindictus, Darkfail, DDO, GW, PotBS

Good to see FE is still going strong, we need more new takes in the MMO world.

lol, yeah riiiiight.  I can hear that Journey song now...  "Don't stop believing..."

Just because it's pretty much the only thing in it's genre doesn't mean you people have to clutch this turd or post apocalyptic scavenger hunt game (do ya like to craft? I sure hope ya do!) to your bosom like it's actually a good game.

It had promise but fell flat (Is it an mmo-shooter? or just an mmo? Never could make up it's mind).

After large layoffs let's see if it's still "going strong" a year from now.

Well I let my sub end on 10/22.  I finaly gave up.  To say the game is growing strong lol,  when you only have 300 to 400 folks online in a single shard server durring prime time is not strong.

Sorry but I refuse to give fe any more of my cash, marking that one down as something that went right at the begining, got stagnated.

I predict there not even going to be around 6 months from not, if they make it another year i will be surpised.

    Pessimism reactions ! :P

Happy customer since one year and t's a pleasure to see changes in-game =)

also a happy member since beta...small issues sure..but it beats the dumbing down of alot of other games to make it easier for you ...every game is personal to those that sub to it..some will like it  some wont... and they are still doing things ..i thnk its a tougher job to tweak systems and try to put a new take on thngs than just rehash things  like  world of warcraft and others.

this is a world where the enviroment should change alot..towns come and go..bits of true government try to rebuild and fail or not..and the crafting is one of the things i love..not like wow were but craft and have it in  30 secs..this takes time and true resource gathering and few if any resources are in areas that anyone can get to..other games lock stuff in instances and really high zones   anyway im babbling..

i feel its just a fact some will like others wont...try it and if not liking move on.

    love  and peace

Was in since Beta 2 as well and loved the game at first...but lack of end game content makes this game last about 1 year to the ones that are lucky enough to take their time at it.  The only thing i would re-sub for is Sector 4 and not just modifications to existing sectors....

...i guess we will just wait and see...

The last state of the game I read was s4 was going to be rolled out one piece at a time,  one town here one town there.

What got me was changes  yet again to combat becasue of the folks who pvp compaling about this and that.

And crafting that was nefed way down.

Im like you in this one,  once s4 gets rolled out, I might come back to take a look, that is if it ever does.   We should be getting another state of the game sometimes in the next week or so.

State of what game your down some devs.

I'm actually surprised they didn't hold off on posting a dev diary on Quarantine in favour of one about the destruction and revamp of Boneclaw. The "new" Boneclaw is on the PTS at the moment and it's vastly improved.

There's also a new tutorial, and an AP cap on the PTS, as well as some of the other promised stuff. I'm not so hot on the new tutorial, but the rest of it is pretty sweet.

Alpha county is the first part of S4 we'll see, the level cap will go up by 5, and they have promised that they're going to add more endgame-y dungeons (like the Redstone stuff that came in with Quarantine). None of this is likely until well into the new year though - at least they're being honest about that.

I know people got burned out waiting for stuff, and/or having nothing to do....and there were times where I've been frustrated to heck and back with bugs, I won't lie. On balance, however, there's been a bunch more communication lately, and FE is still the only game I'm happy to stay subbed to at the moment. I'm keeping myself entertained by levelling "other side of the wheel" alts to see areas of the game I didn't get to see on my main.

FE is going to be like EVE Online ... It will maintain a reasonable and loyal customer base and end up being super successful without being WoW.

It's a mean to an end. Icarus Studio is actually building tools for game and 3D world building deployment. So every time they tune upgrade their corporate product the game benefit from, since it's built from the same engine. The good thing about this? It benefit to the players as well as the company and doesn't require the same player base as your average mmo.

A proftable venture yes but super successful? nope. It is very limited in gameplay to have success like EVE or WOW for that matter.

Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

Im picking on WoW btw because its the beast that made all of this possible

Well to say its going to be a profitable venture is reaching pretty far.  Considering that most of the fan sites have changed hands a couple of times, layoff's 2 times now.

I would not call that profitable, enough to stay afloat, apy the bills and a smaller dev staff yes, but turning huge loads of profit no.
