About to pick this up, any particular version to look out for?

I would prefer a boxed version, I noticed I can stil get the original collector's edition released in 2008 brand new for dirt cheap and Godslayer can be picked up a little later.

I also noticed there are various deals on the Funcom site for a digital download.  Is the boxed Collector's edition missing any content that might have been added to the game since, or could anything new, besides the Godslayer expansion, all be downloaded through a free patch?  What is the might of Crom and survival pack I have heard about?

What about the 30 day free trial that is offered with the downloadable version on the official site, would I have access to this if I picked up the boxed version?

It's a little irritating that different versions, be them boxed or digital, seem to have different bonuses.  I just want to make sure I get everything I need from the start and if I pick up the old Collector's edition, I don't want to miss out on anything.

Just drop by your local BESTBUY store and buy the Green box expansion pack version. It comes with the original game plus a mammoth mount. Then when you sign up and pick your monthly subscription cycle if you pick 6 or 12 months as a new subscriber youll get the cool new White Tiger SWIFT-mount as a bonus. Its a great bonus too. And the 12 month deal is really great because it comes out to about $7 bucks a month. Well worth it if you have a great computer to handle this amazingly beautiful mmo in high res!

If you go the cheap collectors edition route then the 6 & 12 month offer will get the expansion pack for free instead of the uber cool tiger mount which will take u months to acquire in game after u hit max level. I recomend the BESTBUY route for up to date disks and small download plus UBER rare tiger.

Good luck! And welcome back to conan. Spread the word about the cool tiger mount welcome back offer. Best time to come back is now for all you launch players who were waiting to flip the switch. The tiger offer ends December 20th!

    p.s.

Sign up now even if ya cant play much during these busy holiday weeks so atleast youll have the offer waiting for you after new years! Conan keeps getting better and better! =)

    EDIT

(Might of crom, that you asked about is just an optional digital goodie bag of extras for people who wanted the old rhino mount & war mammoth, so not important when signing up. It was only added for those gotta have it all complainers types on the forums who kept begging for that stuff, Lol.)

Thanks a lot NinjaClaws, that is exactly the answer I was looking for.  Good job picking up on my ninja edit, I guess it takes a real ninja to notice one (I didn't think anyone was reading my post so soon as I was writing it so late/early).

Since you come across as a stand up guy and true fan of Conan, I just have one more question for you.  I hear the PvE has improved substantially since launch with loads of new content but the PvP has been somewhat neglected and griefers have made adventuring a chore on the two pvp servers that are left.  As a welp Demonologist, I am trying to decide if I should roll on Wiccana or Cimmeria, any suggestions?  Do people group more on an open pvp server to keep safe or will I find myself avoiding the roads too much and not enjoying the gorgeous world of Hyboria?

A much different question, if you don't know the answer that is fine, but it's a decision I have to make soon and the official forums are useless as they are often full of complainers, it's always been that way for these games.

Perhaps I can help you out on this one then. As you said, PvE is improved very much since launch, and the expansion has been very PvE focused so far, with the exception of a new minigame mode coming out in the new patch now. As my best advise, I would say start on a PvE server, and learn the game first (did not see if you have testet the trial already)

if the PvE server gets to "cosy" or safe, I suggest you try the PvP server later, as PvP is undoubtly a challenge in this game. The original gameworld is more focused, and mobs often come close to the road, so there should be plenty of fighting either way. The expansion is built different, with large open areas to explore.

    Enjoy the game!

While the mammoth is nice it's not usable until lvl 40, the better part of that deal is the extra inventory bag that's usable right from the get go.  Stock inventory space is tiny and the bag really helps out.  There's a ring you get too that's OK I guess, never did really figure that one out.

Things to NOT look for (which I think are in the collectors box) a drinking cape (they never did put drunken bar fights into the game) and something else that's slipped my mind right now.

All the boxes will take you from Tortage up to the max level so don't worry about different boxes having different zones in them.  The only expansion has been Godslayer.  It opens up another 20-40 (post Tortage) zone and new race (asian) plus the high end stuff.  Unless you really really have to run one of the new races guys, you can hold off on it.

It's a big download no matter what so go ahead and setup an account name and password and start the forever free up to lvl 20(really 24/25) now.  Then when you get your box you can just apply the code in it to that account.  You'll get your 30 day paid time so you can venture off the starter island (Tortage) and start leveling.

For levels 1 - 20 on Tortage, doesn't really matter if you're on a PvE or Pvp server as it's all the same (they pulled Pvp from the island).  It's only post-Tortage now for Pvp.  My oldest went with Cim (Pvp) and said it wasn't as bad as he thought it would be.  Could have changed now that the lvl 20 Pvp packs had to move off Tortage, but most players are out in Godslayer land so maybe not.

Personally I play on a PvE server.

The game really is a PvE game (which it does well) with just a little Pvp tossed in.  So far all the love's been tossed PvE way with just crumbs going to the Pvp side.

    @NinjaClawz

man... that's what happened to me... i hate the way they do promo and it lacks vital information that might help players making a correct descision...

even with that i emailed them if i can still get the tiger promo if i unsub and resub. main problem is if i unsub, will i lose my 12 months that i first bought? or after resub i get now a 24 months(my first 12 and my 2nd purchase of another of 12 months)...

but waiting for the reply made me think a lot... it is like having a dillemma if it is worth it to sub again based in the state of the game and population shortage... man, i hate to see the 2 years sub will be a freakin' waste and i hate to blame myself for not playing WOW instead. lol

well, i asked them if it is even possible to extend my current sub already... like i have a 12 month right now that will end jan 2012... i asked them if i can purchase now another 12 months from jan 2012 - jan 2013 game time in order to avail the tiger promo... i don't know if that is even possible by unsubbing and resubbing... lol

OK, looks like I'll start off on PVE in AoC.  In reading these comments and the official forums on their website, it looks like the game tried to appeal to to both audiences and from my experience, you just can't do that in a MMO.  You need to pick one playstyle or the other as one always gets neglected and at the moment it seems like the PvP servers are int he shadows of the PvE servers.  Too bad, because I enjoy a good PvP focused game, but I'll hold off on PvP for now (I will definitely check it out though).

See you all in early January, that is when I will roll my toon.  :)
