Looking for an MMO that won't be a burden with my specs and playstyle

CujoFoxtarCujoFoxtar Member Posts: 8

Greetings, I am CujoFoxtar. I go under many aliases related to Cujo, but that is not important. I am here to state that I am seeking an MMORPG. But not just any MMORPG will do. These are the things I am looking to fill, and all must be filled (with some exceptions, which will be noted appropriately) in order for me to accept it. These are listed in order of importance, and are not to be taken lightly.

1)Can run on the following specs at default, first-install launch. Specs are listed below:

AMD Athlon 2650e 1.61Ghz Processor (rounded down to 1.6Ghz for simplicity, non-upgradeable)

1.7 GB of DDR2 RAM (shared with graphics card, upgradeable)

160 GB HDD (Reduced to about 150 GB after basic Windows XP components, somewhat upgradeable)

NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE 256MB VRAM Graphics Card (shared with basic RAM, non-upgradeable and built-into computer frame)

Realtek HD Sound Card with mic and headphone capabilities (like graphics card, built into frame, non-upgradeable)

Windows XP Home Edition SP3 (x86, 32-bit OS, non-upgradeable, pre-installed by Acer)

Cable Modem (ISP is Comcast, Service is bare-minimum without de-ranking to DSL)

Computer assembled by Gateway, eMachines brand

(Unrelated but somewhat important)Computer gifted by grandmother; not getting a new one from them ever again

2)MUST BE FREE TO PLAY. MUST ALSO BE NOT AS RELIANT ON CASH SHOP ITEMS AS POSSIBLE (or bearable without)

4)As many free quest rewards as possible, to prevent careless gold spending

5)Community must have a friendly, kind, and understanding majority (especially regarding mental illness). Jerks to a minimum, or a way to punish said jerks (PK, PvP, etc)

6)A site where one can see a full set on an actual character, or a character simulator fansite (optional, but highly desired)

7)Decent or customizable soundtrack - also must not be religiously banned for swapping BGM music.

8)Some level of UI Customization available

These are the MMOs that I have tried, as of today (listed in order of which I played, to the best of my knowledge)

Ragnarok Online

MapleStory

Final Fantasy XI

ROSE Online

World of Warcraft

Dream of Mirror Online

Secret of Solstice Online

WindSlayer

Grand Chase

LaTale

Flyff

Luna Online

Dungeon Fighter Online

Mabinogi

Megaten Imagine

S4 League

Exteel

WonderKing Online

RF Online

DragonSaga

Each one has produced unsatisfactory results, and I'm running out of options. If one of these has a sudden shift in any one of the 8 categories listed above, please inform me hastily so that I can reconsider a second attempt.

If you have an MMORPG that isn't listed above that meets the 8 categories as criteria, then please reply.

Also, I must stress a point: THE PLAYERS MUST REMEMBER THE MEANING OF MMORPG, AND NOT GET OVERHYPED ABOUT ME BEING POWERLESS!

I think I've covered about everything. I await good replies (hopefully).

The universe is bound by a vast amount of phenomena. To explain each one would take an army, and recording it would take the Great Library to house it.

lots of fun games out there for free these days, but nothing i can think of that will run on a fossil that old sorry.

Bit sad you didn't like Mabinogi, it's the first game that came to mind as I was reading your OP. Although, when did you start/stop playing Mabinogi?  Because it has upgraded quite a bit and is now up to Generation 12.

Really can't think of anything else to be honest. Most of the recent MMOs are not so MMOs, and rather action-based MO(RP)G. Even in the P2P area, there isn't that much I could recommand.

  • KenFisherKenFisher Member UncommonPosts: 5,035

Your hardware is reasonable for most games if you don't mind lower settings.  Most F2P would run on that system with no sweat.

As to a good game with friendly community, free to play with easily avoidable cash shop...  good luck.  As you probably already know, most F2P games are either "pay to win" (the only way to be functional at high levels is to spend cash), or ones that exclude you from content unless you buy it.

One I might suggest is Zentia.  From what I've seen the comunity and developer involvement is excellent.  I was in their closed beta without access to cash shop items and did fairly well.  The pet system is great, and the whole look and feel reminded me of a classic Disney fairy tale movie.

you do realize his cpu is a single core 1.6 ghz, and he has no video card, it takes some of his 2 gigs or ram and uses it for video processing (shared video) and that fully trimmed and optimized xp still burns around 500 megs or ram, so he has a gig tops left to run a game, with a 1.6 single core cpu, and no graphics card power.

he got his pc dirt cheap, like 8 years ago, hes gotten alot of life out of it, but its not really going to play anything worth playing, im sorry, time to G-cycle it and consider investing in a new bargain pc!

  • hockeyplayrhockeyplayr Member UncommonPosts: 604

might i suggest you look at this site:

    http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/

what you do is you pick the game you want from the drop down list (they have pretty much every main stream game) and you click the can you run it button.  It then analyzes your computers specs and it tells you how you rank based on the minimum and recommended requirements.  Ive been using it for years never any problems..

    sorry double post

Actually, I got the PC two years ago. My grandma got it because I mentioned the NVIDIA deal, but the hag cheaped it, and now they're so stingy (not their fault, really complex to explain, and goes off-topic) that I'm not even getting a single present this Christmas - that is, unless I pay them $5. Talk about greedy bastards.

And now I'm somewhat insulted (but not becuase of the person who said it) that my PC is a fossil. This means no game in existence will work for me, which, given my brokeness ($674 a month with $200 Food Stamps) would mean that buying it myself would not be an option. Financing is also out of the question, as I lack a Credit Score (having never taken a loan).

@Person who recommended Mabi - That's the reason I posted this. Mabi is unbearable, and no longer fun for the whole PC Fossil reason.

I guess I can kiss MMORPGs goodbye, then, since I'm using a deadhorse of a machine, and working with selfish, greedy, stingy relatives who won't work together to buy or build a usable PC.

dude check out that site i posted.  there may be some hope.. there is a game for every machine.. play diablo or something

  • CujoFoxtarCujoFoxtar Member Posts: 8

If Diablo is a free download, maybe. It's a game I've never played, so it'd be good. Also, it doesn't have listings for a lot of games I've played, and many of the ones on that list are done with purchases.

I can't use a credit card, out of concern for budget control (it's too risky to use in my hands). Also, my accumulative income can't pass $1400, or I start taking cuts each month. My rent is $435 a month (paid sorely by me) my internet is also $61.40 a month, and my electric can go as high as $80 during Winter (it's a variable amount, meaning I can easily go into the red each month).

Not only that, my computer can't even handle N64 Emulators (which gives you an idea of how pitiful it is).

Pretty much, this means I'm somewhat screwed, because I can only handle basics, unless, as I stated earlier, Diablo is a free download, which I'm pretty sure it's not (budget problems and income issues also explain the desire to play a F2P MMO without a heavy "Pay to win" emphasis - solvable with more effort than I'm capable of alone).

Fantasy Earth Zero is pretty unique. There's a cash shop but since all of the combat is group based and on a medium scale you can get by on items bought with coins and rings (earned in pvp). A really unique community. Their douchebags aren't really all that douchey. They can be jerks, but it's more like a bunch of pals roughhousing than people trolling.

Just a note on your specs it'll look ugly at first and move a bit weird, but in mass combat you forget all about it.

  • hockeyplayrhockeyplayr Member UncommonPosts: 604

its not a free download (i think its like five dollars though) and the original diablo was made in 1995 so it should be able to run. i would think.

    you could try this game:

    http://www.dransik.com/

i have never played it but from what i understand it was the original game that was turned into ashen empires.. I started to look it up and it seems to have a small dedicated community that is willing to help out any noobies because well.. anyone that comes into the game at this point is an increase in population.  At least thats what i grasped when i was reading forum posts about it 2 months ago

  • CujoFoxtarCujoFoxtar Member Posts: 8

The site that you listed, Hockey, has MapleStory on there. While I could get by without the Cash Shop, the community has been (and might still be after Big Bang) horrible to deal with, and one of the key reasons I left.

A small note: I like Mabinogi's combat style, but because my computer makes training Windmill a bigger hassle than it needs to be, I had no choice but to quit. If that wall were out of the way, I'd be having more fun because performance lag would not be an issue (the game itself eats up a huge chunk of RAM).

Also, Dransik doesn't look too appealing to me. Too flat, tbh. Thanks for the suggestion.

There was WonderKing, but Nexon is squashing its growth, and guilds don't help players under Level 60 (which is a little over half the game's level cap) so..... yeah.

I also hate games that assume a freshly picked newblet who's just logged in for the first time will KNOW EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT THE GAME! Just because I type like this doesn't mean I totally like research.

EDIT: Forgot to add that I have the recommended specs for Maple and RF. But the site's lying - I can't handle maximum graphics on RF (or rather, my comp can't). Any other suggestions for a site like the one Hockey recommended?

thats the only site i know of and when alot of f2p games list specs they are the minimum specs required. which may be why you can't run it on max. Im out of suggestions for now, sorry :/ .. goodluck with your search though

brother you cant afford 61.40 a month for internet, you need to get that down asap, if they dont offer anything cheaper drop it and use the library computer to check the internet.

also, cigarrettes, booze, and other things that are not only expensive, but kill you, out of the question on your budget, tighten that belt!

Not being able to hold a job is your own fault, if you have a job put it first, as far as I can tell, you don't have much going for you anyways.. Go to college, quit making excuses, and grow up. Thing is, unless your rapist doesn't try to kill you, that's a faulty argument. I had a brush with death and survived. Nobody gets over near-death experiences THAT fast - especially with mental illnesses like mine (you'll call BS here, I know it).

Sure, I eat a lot, but I actually EXCERISE! I'm standing at a solid 170 pounds, good sir. It's called "high metabolism".

I don't even have a GED because my diploma was revoked. College is a no go unless I can get that.

And you're not saying much if an insult is your first post (assuming you didn't make an alt account to just INSULT ME, and if that's the case, you've sunk lower than me. Just saying.)

I do save my money, but there's always that $1400 cap I have to watch out for (my income is SSI, so it's fixed every month, not scaling). Also, unless I go to college (which as I said is impossible as I'm not qualified), there's no real benefit to making friends in this town, because everyone is either under 12 years old, or in their late 40s-early 50s.

I could tell you why certain things don't work all day, but in the end, you'll just flame me because you feel superior.

And if a mod could check that account's IP for me please - I'm sure it's the guy who called me self-entitled making an alt account to avoid getting his main account banned. (Hint: Check his post count)

Nope I actually just use this site to find games on my own, it just irks me that people like you are out there. You make an excuse for everything.. I had a friend get expelled from High School and took his GED classes and is going to college for free. How about instead of sitting around moping and complaing about how hard you have it, you take a step to make an improvement. There has to be something you can do to improve your situation without encoutering your "problems."

If you put 50 dollars a month away, in 1 year you could build something pretty damn good. Think about it and do it. It's time to be a big boy.

Only calculating Rent, Internet, and Electric. Genius, good sir.

    /sarcasm

Laundry is $2.50 per load (done on site), and I don't get that $200 for food until the 5th, meaning if I run out of food before the month is up, whatever I pay to eat ends up coming out of the SSI income - not good when you're self-conscious about saving.

Again, assume all you want, but I stand by what I said before and realize you'll call me a liar no matter what.

Let's get this topic back on track, please. I can do other multiplayer leagues - it doesn't have to be separate titles (meaning different games). My only complaint is that those end up being Peer to Peer - meaning distance plays a huge role, really.

I could handle S4 League, but until the Hacker stream subsides, I don't really think it's a good idea. I'm not below FPS games, though - not sure if you guys can recommend free ones (as I said, graphics quality doesn't matter really - the only thing that really does is if I can run it, I can manage intermediate tactics with it, and players don't go apeshit when I lose.

Your just making assumptions now. Sure I'm a bit cold, but it makes me a bit stronger I think. I never said you were worthless, just that you tend to take the easy way out and make excuses for your actions. I'll leave you to think what you want. Your going to anyways.

    On topic.

    Try Legend of Mir 3.

    http://mir3.wemade.net/main/main.asp

Free to play. Don't need to use the cash shop. Community is great. It's only 2d so not heavy on your machine. Try it and let me know what you think.

First off, I owe everyone here an apology.

I realize now that in the end, the guys who chewed me out were right. I was just so infuriated, I couldn't accept the fact that I knew they were correct - that I had the power to make changes, but wasn't even giving it consideration! The fact I knew they were right was downright infuriating, and to be honest, it was quite hard to swallow. But swallow I had to, because in the end, I would've been regretting every minute of it if I had followed through on my threats.

I couldn't forgive myself for being so ancient, but I also couldn't forgive the fact that it was my attitude that was the real reason people gave me the cold shoulder.

This apology may sound like a pathetic excuse for redemption, and it probably is. However, ultimately, I'm asking you guys for forgiveness for last night's events. But whether you forgive me or not, that's up to you.

    --------------------------------------------------

Back on topic, the games I know I can run without serious problems (i.e. unbearable sluggishness, constant crashing) I don't play because people tend to have cookie-cutter desires (when the skill system promotes exploration - and it's not stupid to explore). If the game was built to be more or less cookie-cutter, the community is where I tend to fall short in dislike.

Ofttimes, if I know I can at least run a game on minimum settings, it might have a shot - but what happens afterwards tends to irritate me/cause rapid burnout/make me lose hope. A lot of these games I can run - if only because I churn swap, and I don't overload my PC with useless crap (i.e. porn and the like). I'm also paranoid to catching viruses, so I tend to not play games I know have generated killer viruses in the past (Neosteam did this to me a while back - it caused a virus which was unrecoverable from, and a hard reinstall was necessary. Thank god my computer has the OS Reformat built into the HDD - one of the reasons I'm not as keen to upgrade that part as I'd like).

I play these kinds of games for fun. When system specs or the community takes the fun out of it, then I start to worry.

Sir, the first part of your last post deserves a round of applause.

No, I am not beeing sarcastic. I do mean it.

You gotta be very brave to admit in public what you just did. You also gotta be brave to apologize in public like you did. You gotta be even braver to tell that to yourself.

Sir, I wish you best luck on your next quest. Don't give up. I know it's hard, I ve been through some S*** myself in the past, and I also felt there was nothing I could do to find a solution to that situation. But, wth, I got over it. Just remember it's not gonna be easy, it's not gonna happen in a couple of days, and it's probably not gonna happen on your first try. Be patient, be strong, be willing. If you fail, learn from the mistake and try again.

Again, best luck, and don't give up, becouse you know you can and you know you will.

    *breathes sigh of relief*

Though I'm glad someone said this, it doesn't change what I did. So in the end, I still have to live with it. But still, hearing this is better than the exact opposite of this (something like "no u suck and shuld rot in hell" or along those lines).

In the end, I'm better because I took the beating like a man. I admit my mistake, I apologize, and I'll take the consequences of what I did.

Ive been playing a lot of Diablo 2 latley. While not a mmo, its still free multiplayer with a healthy population.

But honestly gaming isnt cheap, especialy when you have to get internet. My comp is only 2 years old and was near top of the line at the time. All these new games barley run on low now while getting like 15 fps.

So ive been playing a lot of older games. Ive been playing Diablo 2, UT 2004, Baldurs Gate 2, and some Garys mod (halflife 2).

But on another note, Life if what you make it. Have a positve outlook and your life will be much more enjoyable. Have a negative outlook and your life will suck. Its all about perspective.

Good luck finding a game that you can get some enjoyment out of

If you really want to play a game id say just save up diablo 2 its a really good time and tons of helpful people play it. I really dont think youd regret it and for the meantime just work through your problems i know things seem awful now but things do get better and as for what happened last night i wouldnt worry about it to much because when theres blood in the water the sharks of the mmorpg community come running to bait you into a rage. I know some of the things you said last night may not of been the best but i think the fact you apologized says a lot but id perfer from now on everyone uses their main account im tired of alt trolls.

Edit: Redemption is really only as hard as you make I think for a good person to take redemed it takes a lot more for them to forgive themselfs than for the people they hurt to forgive them

If your going to ban the trolls please for our sake ban the Fan Boys too.
