GamersFirst CTO and COO Bjorn Book-Larsson has written his third weekly update about APB Reloaded. In the article, Book-Larsson discusses the finalization of the closed beta build that centers around 'Patch 143' that was in the works when original developer Realtime Worlds closed down. Additionally, Book-Larsson talks about private servers, misleading article titles and the issue of download size.
Alright – so now we are getting closer to defining the final shape of the first Closed Beta build. When RTW closed up shop, there was already a build known as “build 142” in the works which further refined some of the balance-issues and dealt with a whole range of fixes. For closed beta we are now working toward defining an official “build 143” which will be the foundation of the game going forward. This closed beta candidate will clearly do some key initial things (like integrating G1 credits, create a framework for the premium accounts etc.), but very likely will not yet cover all the items we want to have before we truly go live. Therefore we are very likely to launch a closed beta version WITHOUT the original character data, and then wipe the databases at the end of Closed Beta after we have been able to determine the impact of the various game changes, and then look to restore some of the original character data for the Open Beta start.

Been part of the original CB, I'm really missing this game
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Here we go again... i hope that it wil stay longer this time, its a awesome game but only in the F2P way. Let there be APB in F2P format.
Already? feels like yesterday it shut down and changed hands.
for this being F2p, im wondering how much they will be cutting out.
Woot... I miss this game. lol
Veritas Vos Liberabit- The truth will set you free.
This game need to come to console so bady, like ps3 system.
this ggame was a hackerparadise, until they do nothing with the client/server side's, it will be just frustrating game...
If they cut out much there wont be anything left but 2 parking garages and a chick in a bikini with a submachinegun. It was already the smallest most repetitve mmo (if you can call it that) on the market. I hope to GOD they get the balance passes in and use some common sense. Bunny hopping headshots on the run at 50 yards with a shotgun and unscoped 10 yard sprinting headshots with a sniper rifle. Seriously? I wont even go into the hacking and hate that was rampant. They need to do alot more than "tweak it" to get this game up and successful. I would start by lowering the system specs so that all their new players don't need to run out and blow a grand on new computers just to play a F2P game. Just an idea...
I agree about lowering the system requirements somehow, or atleast optimizing the compatible hardware. I have a pc that should in theory play this game, but it refused to even install because my video card wasn't supported.
To single out the market to top of the line users only does not seem like this will be successful venture into the f2p genre either.
Also on a side note, I havn't had very good impressions of f2p FPS type games, having a cashshop in them has only swayed towards the "pay2win" side of f2p games.
FPS and Racing games in the F2P realm are never a good idea to get into unless you actually plan to pay, it's basically the only way to enjoy the competetive nature of those two genres.
Ok so their fixing some of the issues. Great. But, my question is, is what's different? What have they done to add more content? That was one of the major problems before. It was mainly a handful of rinse and repeat missions that got boring after the first time around. If they don't make major changes to the content of the game, they can pretty much just forget releasing the game any time soon.
Don't see/read much differences neither. Can't say I am looking fwd. to it to say the least.
Wait, seriously? You guys are allready whining about new content? They've had the IP for less than 2 months, they've not even gotten a full dev staff on it yet, they haven't even started to address the balance issues or hacking - hell, they're working from a patch that never even made it to live ... and you're -allready- citing 'no new content' as a reason for not looking forward to it?
Good grief people. Let me put this in perspective for you : You're complaining that the used car in question doesn't have GPS and a Spoiler, when the engine isn't even fully installed and the transmission is missing gears.
Let's first see if they can get what they -have- working right, then, and only then, should we say "So where's the extra stuff?" I've played this game. I enjoyed this game. It was far from perfect, but it was slowly improving. I'm going to give Reloaded the time they need to get this game on it's feet, out the door, and functional before I start asking why there's no new X, Y, and Z.
Fixing bugs wont fix the gameplay. What makes a developer think a pvp-only game will do well. The customization in this game is crap. All you do is recolor premade clothes that you have you pvp over and over and over for. Its just a big mediocre mess.
Only a handful of people can stand to play nothing but pvp, but when you throw in controls that just feel empty, it doesn't help. Its hard to explain why the controls are bad. But you know exactly what I mean if you load up GTA4 and shoot a few people and then load up APB and shoot a few people. APB just doesnt feel right.
In my opinion, the only thing that would help this game is if it focused on pve with optional pvp events (the current missions they have) and had NPC factions or whatever. A bigger City to do pve missions in. Even the matrix online had a bigger city. And adding some sort of parkour to the controls (after fixing them of course). thats never going to happen though. This game seemed to be depending on hardcore pvp players which was stupid, and they "great" customization, which is really crappy if you stop and think about it. You can make a person with tattoos and punk rocker clothes, thats so advanced... Even all the old tony hawk games had more clothing options.
Im happy that this game is coming back and is going f2p. I just hope they dont take things out to make it a cash item or change things enough that the people that did play before the game went down, notices a big difference in it that it isnt close to the reasons of them buying the game in the first place. Or even make it so that the only way to be even an equal to some1 else is buy from the cash shop. That will ruin the game in a lot of asspects. I loved the game and had fun with it while it was in CB and OB and also when it was released. I only noticed a few problems of the hackers but it wasnt enough to make me stop playing. Lets see if they mess this 1 up by changing so much of the game that its really nothing as it should be and made it a "Buy G-Coins or suck for the whole game" type of game. So until I see whats changed and what they feel is balance, I say kick ass and lets get this on the roads of San Paro.

Um. You realise you could also change your physical body and face to a very great extent? No two characters in that game looked the same.
It also makes me wonder how many clothing options you unlocked. You could also make your own decals to put on clothes, cars or use as tatoos.
disapointing, looks like they are trying to continue with the work that RW did which seemed to give aim-botters a far suprior advantage than previously.
So this is going to be aim-bot heaven. With not a single word about how they are going to combat aim-botters we can only assume that this release will suffer the same plague.
