How is guild life in this game?

pupurunpupurun Member UncommonPosts: 561

I did play GW at launch but never got to fully appreciate how good the game was . Now i am seriously thinking of returning and devoting myself to this game for a few months .What i would like to learn is

1)how  interesting can a guilded GW player's life can be?

2)What are the best guild features ?

3)Is there any roleplaying Guilds active suing the full spectrum of the game?(pve-pvp and not just a bunch of people using the game client ONLY as a chat programme with emotes :) )

4)Can a newly created guild ever compete with the older ones dominating the charts?

5)Are there aspects of PVE that need grouped play 100%?

Thanks for your answers!

    Depends on your guild.

2)What are the best guild features ?

Well, there aren't that many unique guild features in the game. You get a guild chat, guild tabard (very customisable compared to most MMOs), guild hall, you can participate in Guild vs Guild (GvG) battles and you can join an alliance (a group of several guilds, one guild is the alliance leader). Alliances are the best guild feature in the game.

Pve - There are guild which actively do guild runs to some of the more 'elite' zones or are just doing some vanquishing.

In PvP - a lot of guilds do Heroes Ascent and GvG.

4)Can a newly created guild ever compete with the older ones dominating the charts?

Yes, if you have the skillzzz :D In Guild Wars you don't need items to compete in PvP.  You just need to be good at PvP. And by good, I mean you have to know the game very well. GvG has a very steep learning curve and you need to find a good guild which will be willing to train you so that maybe you will be useful in 4-5 months time. And you need a lot of the skills unlocked. They can't train you if you don't have the skills to play with in the first place. I would say go through all chapters before you even think of starting PvP.

5)Are there aspects of PVE that need grouped play 100%?

In GW you are forced into grouping be it with henchman or people. Excluding some farming solo builds, you don't solo in this game. Some more difficult areas are much easier if you play with people. Some of them may be impossible with henchies.

The poster above gave a more comprehensive answer than I could possibly achieve... however:

I'll add that it's actually not a tabard but a cape that is associated with your guild. Personally I am in a pvp guild that has won a monthy Guild vs Guild ladder, so our cape has a permanent gold trim which is rather nice as well!

Our alliance (a conglomeration of guilds with a particular association to the Kurzick or Luxon faction), however, is pretty heterogenous and we mix it up with PvE and more social things outside of PvP.

It boils down to what the previous poster said: it really depends on your guild... you just need look for the one you want.

New guilds can add a more exciting aspect to the game, as you get to be a part of something that grows and thrives via your collaboration with guild mates... I'm not sure how many guilds actually roleplay, but many guilds do pursue most aspects of Guild Wars.
