I've just come back to AC2, took a 6 month break to play EQ2 & Ryzom, which I fully enjoyed. I kept thinking about this game tho the whole time and finally gave in.
Im just getting upto speed with the current status of the game, having a few problems with billing migration but looking forward to getting back online.
Also the Legions Xpansion looks really great, looks like a good time to come back.
Now is a good time for old players with higher level chars. New players that don't care about a lack of players to team up with for level 1-25 can give it a go, but it's a good idea to wait until the xpack I think. That will attract new players and old players rerolling an alt alike.
But the game is perfectly solo-able up to level 40+ if you don't have a problem with this. Most allegs will still take new players and that should improve your experience a lot too, even if your alleg colleagues are higher level.
They can wait, or they can start immediately. I don't think it will make much difference. Some people may want to get some levels before the expansion, some might not. It's pretty easy to solo past 40.
You have to be able to craft your own armor and weapons if you want to solo or get some one to craft stuff for you. I'm 41 and relying on quest items worked pretty well until now. Nepeth and all the level 30+ quests own me in my Lords Armor. I decided to avoid human contact and I'm working on getting my weapon and armor smithing up to make my own stuff. I'm determined to not join an allegiance or make friends! Tru solo.
Crafted item can give you a noticable boost, but I don't think they are necessary to play the game. A number of people past 50 still use looted and quest armors and weapons.
Well, I'm back playing again and enjoying myself. Although I'm having a very hard time recovering my toons since the last time I played last September. Something to do with the billing migration from Microsoft to Turbine. I am playing a toon with a free-trial atm on Frostfell. Although if I get my account back, I will be on TD. If not, I'm going to play exclusively Tummies until the expansion pack is released and working very hard in crafting Tummie Armor. This is still a fun game, even after the time I spent playing WoW (which is also a very good game).
Of all MMORPG's I've played or tried (now quite a few), I still like AC2 the best.
I agree that it does little sense to post here since the official forum is alive and has devs attention. On the other hand it is unknown to the general MMORPG community and generates no attention from new players. And we all know how much AC2 needs it right now, on the eve of Legions, with Turbine doing very little to advertise them ("very little" = polite way to say NOTHING! ;-) ). So I guess keep posting here - even if you only post a link to our official forum: http://forums.ac2.turbinegames.com/
Just got my account back and will be playing on TD. It is fun again after stepping away for almost a year. With Hero 2.0 coming soon and Legions expansion pack being released, there ought to be a lot to do.

Thought I'd say hi,

Hello. Now is a good time to come back. You can learn about the game and start getting some levels before the expansion pack comes out.

P.s. the new screenshots look really cool!!

I guess I just suck.
I would say most of the non official AC2 boards and ac2hq.com forums are dead because the majority of discussion is going on there.
I mean come on, why discuss here if you can discuss on the official forum with dev presence or on the well established fansite?
