So, with all the changes, do you still need to go to the Planes of Power to lvl and get the keys for the other raids, etc or is that all by passed by other zones for lvling and stuff?
Comments
POP zones are some of the most utilized zones still today, especially for the lvl 50-65 leveling range, and some lvl 70's would go to CoD to burn their lesson for AA exp. The best part is there are no keys required anymore, you just zone in as long as you are at the right level. I usually start doing PoI in the low 50's, or PoN if PoI is too crowded. Late 50's I would go to CoD and then Plane of Fire, perhaps some BoT mixed in there. Good times.
Check here and look at the flagging/key zone access changes.

I wish I could go to that site but it is blocked, like most sites....I am surprised this one isn't.
Smart man quitting in 2004, I quit about then. It is when WoW was being talked about. I knew EQ1 was doomed.
There are much better games out there then p.o.s., give one a try. LoTRO is free is as DDO now.
If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1)
I stopped playing around 2005, but eq really wasn't doomed thats all in your head WoW sucks Lotr sucks DnD sucks even though 2 of the 3 are free to play now shows you how much they sucked. WoW is for people age 10 or people with 30 min a day to play. Eq one of the best mmo's out there ever even though its so old now.
As Mardy said, some people still use PoP for leveling. My husband was a real fan of Plane of Fire for exp grinding. (Personally, I prefer zones from later expansions).
There aren't too many keys required in old zones anymore. You just need to be right level for the zones.

12 million people play WoW, and I can assure you the average player age is not much lower than EQ1. You don't like WoW and you can't seperate that from the truth,
WoW is the best game out there or they wouldn't have the number of players they do. I play DDO and in no way compare that to WoW, both are far better than EQ1 though.
I myself killed guards in PoP for exp and gems in the day. You don't take faction hits, that is fiction. I netted about 100k a week in pp selling gems, fine steel, and hero meat at the time.

I stopped reading there. Any credibility you MAY have once had in your postings went out the window. Sorry, and you may not pass go and collect $200, troll.
The only one not collecting the money is SOE, Blizzard makes plenty due to not listening to posters here that don't know what they are talking about.
A big darling here was Vanguard the "WoW killer"; hows that game going? About to be cancelled on life support looks like to me, and EQ1 isn't far behind either.
And the GM response was:

I disagree. The reason for Blizzard's huge success, is everyone can play it with ease, from a very young age and up, where a game like EQ that got a few years behind it, is more complicated.
i recently went back to EQ after stopping arround 04, and i played it since the beginning, i coudnt even remember how to inspect an item, no less remember all the / commands, imagine a new player getting into that, would feel like hiting a wall, people who play EQ is imo, most likely allso those who recruit new players, and guide them through the beginning.
But my overall conclusion is, it is still the best MMORPG out there, yes the gfx aint as highly detailed as some news games, yes it is more complicated, but it doesnt shadow the rest of the game, witch is very good.
Comparing something like EQ with WoW is kinda silly. The 2 games are in simular Fantasy MMORPG's but the inside coudnt be more differnt.
WoW is easy, lotsa quest.
EQ is semi-hard, grind fest.
Not really sure why people can't grasp the idea that people like different things, and some people (me & my g/f included) like both games and have gone back & forth between EQ and WoW in the past 3 years. There are times when I miss one game, and I'll play it 'til I get sick of it or want something else for awhile. Like when I'm in the questing mood or BG/PvP mood I'll play WoW. But then I'll get really sick & tired of questing, so I hop in EQ and farm me some goodies without worrying about quests.
There's no doubt WoW is the largest game on the market, but it's important to put things in perspective and realize there's no other games out there like it. So if you think any games that doesn't rise up to WoW's level of subscription #'s is a failure or sucks, then you're saying all MMO's suck except for WoW. Now that's a pretty ridiculous statement isn't it?
Leave WoW be WoW, it's a beast of its own. But EQ is the game that started it all, even WoW devs acknowledged that, and have given Everquest franchise credit for it time and time again. Many original head WoW developers were ex-EQ1 players, so it's not as if they don't know EQ is what got it all started and gave them a base to work from.

WoW is the true sequel to EQ. I don't know if any of you guys remember, but it was such a natural progression for most EQ guilds in 2004/2005 to migrate to it. Some players went back, but most stayed in WoW.
That said, I do get incredibly nostalgic about EQ. it was an absolutely superb game filled with wonders and stories and memories. It's not the same game anymore, and the devs didn't do enough to keep it alive -- they were too busy working on EQ2.
I'll always remember EQ for being the game that Blizzard took and polished into WoW, it's a piece of gaming history.
I wouldn't touch EQ now though, some things are best as memories. Being one of the first guilds to enter the Plane of Time (back when that was hard) is a gaming memory I'll never forget.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
EQ is the daddy mmorpg, lets not forget that.
I can still remember Blackburrow to this day!
TRAAAAINNNNNN!
