I'm glad you enjoyed STO but in all seriousness it is not a better game than WoW or Eve.

Both those games may not be to your liking, nor mine, but I can admit that they are polished and well executed.  Hardly the disappointment that STO is widely considered to be.

This was by far the most difficult vote. They were all equally heavy flops in their own regard so I thought voting out 2010 was my best choice, but I voted FFXIV. I was really hoping to like it more than I did. After all:

    1. FFXIV - The slowness of doing ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. Monotony.
    2. MO - Only PvP, MAJOR bugs/delays, no PvE content. No anything content. Sausage-fest.
    3. STO - I never had to play, universally-agreed flop in content/game-play
    4. APB - As with most games, early launch, not enough content.
    5. 2010 - I would have voted here if I wasn't so disappointed with FFXIV

If MO suddenly implemented more PvE and quests, etc, that would be great. It's just not going to happen. I have to say though, 2010 isn't the only year that's been a let down. I haven't found a good MMO to play since Vanguard: SoH (Yes, it's been that bad for me). Even then, nothing has compared to my original experience with AC1 in 1999; I fear nothing ever will again.

I definitely think FFXIV was the worst by far. Behind it I would say STO. I don't think MO really deserves the title since it is made by such a tiny team of indie developers and they warned everyone beforehand that it would be very rocky to start...

I wish there was also a vote for worst MMO developer of the year so I could rip on both Cryptic and FFXIV.

MO - game breaking bugs. Biggest dissapointment for me because I like the open PvP sandbox so much.

Without question: STO.  This was money in the bank had Cryptic just taken the IP seriously.

Voting is over.  Give Cryptic the trophy

It was really close between 2010 and STO....but in the end i chose STO. I am a big Star Trek fan and that game was a huge let down. I gave it a week to say I really tried it, but it was really not doing it for me at all and I had to stop wasting my time.

    Playing: PO, EVE
    Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO
Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.

This has yet to be seen that FFXIV would get better, but they DID send out emails today to subscribers that basically was:

    1) Squenix admitting they released a beautifully steaming turd

    2) They're deeply ashamed

3)They're delaying the PS3 launch of the game

    4) They've sacked the old producer and hired a new one and assembled "our company's top talent and resources" in order to "Take FFXIV in a new direction".

    Can be seen here: http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=c499e4c5df4f3f0fde1fb47a28574cb9c3991c9f

Until then, they're extending the free trial of the game till they have a solid plan of action.  Will FFXIV get better?  We shall see.  Until then, I'm gonna sit and watch.  I was greatly dissappointed as well, but I'll go with STO being the big pooper of the year.

I voted 2010 in general. No MMO this year gained my attention. Only bought a single game this year, and wasn't even a MMO.

  • RequiamerRequiamer Member Posts: 2,034

Why can't we pick them all? Oh damn you can :/

  • sazabisazabi Member UncommonPosts: 389

didnt really expect anything from final fantasy.

never liked grand theft auto, thus APB fail was rather surprising, but pleasant xD

mortal online though... really looked like its gonna be elder scrolls type of game online.

however its such a fail... i voted for it.

2010, in general, was not a good year for MMOs.  A lot of hype over poorly executed products that simply failed to keep players' interests beyond the first free month.

  • DredphyreDredphyre Member Posts: 601

I logged in specifically to vote STO, and I haven't even bothered to vote in any other catagory.

Well I was somewhat disappointed in FFXIV, it seems that Square really made several misguided decisions with it.  BUT, atleast the company is not charging us until it is fixed, and they have restructured the development team (replaced the dev lead and some of the team) to make sure it gets fixed.

Now on the my biggest disappointment for the year.  MO you have taken the prize, the cake and even the cardboard cookie.  I cannot believe that a company would release a game as buggy, under-developed and simply lacking everything.  Yeah the sky WAS pretty before they changed the skybox, but the sky isn't what makes a game.  There is no content, it's full of griefers that thrive off killing noobs and there seems to be lack of any kind of moral code with most of its players.  As for the development team, there are lots of promisses made and seemly most if not all of them are broken or falsities from the start.  AND, to top it all off, the company still has the audacity to charge for the most broken game I have seen since D&L.  I'm not one of the people that saw it and blew it off during open-beta either, I pre-ordered at the highest price I had seen for any pc game thus far, played the closed and open beta (listening to the yeah it's broken but it's beta and things will be fixed with the huge fix-all patch crowd) and still hung around a little after the free 30 days.  Then a couple weeks ago got an email asking me to come back and see all the wonderous improvements to the game for free for a week (sorry I didn't see that much of a change, it's still broken).  MO you are the biggest disappointment of all time to me. You even out-rank D&L in disappointment, and have caused me to turn my back on the possibility of ever prer-ordering any game game.

    They sold us a half-baked Fail-sauced pizza.

I was a little disappointed in FFXIV, because the game was just lacking in several areas.  BUT, atleast Square-Enix has taken the path of allowing the free period to continue until the game is fixed.

    Now on to my vote!

Mo you have taken this award, the cake and even the stupid cardboard cookie.  MO has to be the WORST experience I have ever had with a game or its development company (and I went through the days of D&L).  The game is broken, lacking in all areas and has the worst installer I have ever seen.  Not only that, but the company charges a higher price for the software than any other MMO I have bought (costed me $60 USD when I pre-ordered during closed beta), abd they see no problem with charging the player-base for what is essentially BETA level software.  The dev company Star Vault makes promises that aren't kept, keep claiming they have squashed bugs that still exist months later and apparently have no clue how to actually fix their game.  This game and company have taught me NEVER to pre-order anything again.

    They sold us a half-baked Fail-sauced pizza.

I really wish Cryptic and STO could run away with this one but the staff did a mighty fine job of digging up some compelling games that deserve equal consideration.  Me personally I'd want to give APB and Mortal a pass one for being from a smaller dev house and the other for being their first foray into the mmorpg development business, but SE and Cryptic both did much to deserve the places they have in the poll.

I still give my vote to STO though, atleast SE knows and ackowledges the game they released sucks (so much so they are still giving away free time) yet STO seems as equally dissapointing yet we still are being asked to pay monthly while also constantly having C store crap developed to spend even more money on.

At the end of the day Cryptic though get's my vote for extra reasons such as the desperate strategies they use (like influencing players to buy multiple game copies for an item they then sold a week or two later).

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Agree. LOTRO had a great potencial with that incredible fantasy world full of posibilities. But now, from all the things the devs could do, they did a poor job with no remarkables features.

From the presented options I chose APB. A great fail.

Sure the two of you may want to vote for that game particularly but you are living under a rock if you think LOTRO is going to beat all those other flavors of failsauce simply because you feel that way....

Final Fantasy XIV  - will win this anti-award :P

Well I never expected STO to be good but I never would have expected FFXIV to be as bad as it is. So FFXIV won my vote.

I really don't see why everyone thought STO was going to be a good game.

Soon as it was announced I KNEW it would fail.  It's  Star Trek IP, there's no real "action" in Star Trek, it's mostly background and drama. So of course when you try to make an MMO out of Star Trek it's going to disappoint.

  • RelapsE28RelapsE28 Member Posts: 13

I voted STO because the game should of been huge.  Now i'm not a fan of Star Trek by any means, I'm more of a Star Wars fan.  However, this game is supposed to be popular and strong.  Instead everyone hates on it (including me) and the game might as well be shut down.

Tough choice between STO and FFXIV.

I thought STO was the better game of the two, at least it was playable up to max level, but, it was Star Trek, it should have been huge, so STO wins.
