The protection for defenders in Morheim and Eltnen will remain, but the strength of the protection will be significantly reduced. The intent of this change is to provide protection to lower-level players, but also allow for challenging rifting battles in Morheim and Eltnen.

The protection for defenders in Heiron and Beluslan will be removed entirely. This change allows higher-level players to engage in full-scale rifting and to complete spy quests, such as the Betoni’s quest line.

As expected, NCsoft still doesn't have a clue about forced PvP in western markets. I doubt they ever will.  But if they wish to see their games niched, thats their choice(shrug).  I doubt their investors would be so understanding, if they understood what was at stake, and why.

With over 4 million players in the eastern market, being relegated to niche status in the west probably isn't hurting their feelings very much.  And not to be rude, but I'm pretty sure their investors understand what is at stake far better than yourself.

I don't understand how anyone can even use the term Ganking in a realm vs realm style PvP setup where you are not able to attack a player of the same realm.

In a game like Aion (if I am remembering it correctly) its like DAoC in that you are fighting against an enemy force, lvl means nothing, situation means nothing, if you see an enemy combatant, you dont check their lvl you kill them, they are members of a force that is at war with you.

Ganking (as I have always thought of it atleast) is when a player in a game that is not realm (warring factions) based, like AoC just kills you for no reason when you are not in a position to defend yourself (because of low health or lower lvl or something)

Anyways, this is of course just my opinion of the term Ganking

(Paradoxy, only quoted you because of the mention of ganking, not attacking your opinion in any way)

Well, it's not really forced if "that's the game".

I will admit that they were a bit cagey when they were advertising the game. Even the few Aion discussions I saw online or the one at PAX were always about "you can concentrate on the playstyle you want".

However, that's not the same thing as "you can completely avoid the other playstyle".

Still, this is why people should do their research.

Heck, my first mmo, lineage 2, was essentially an experiment for me. I just wanted to try one. I did my research found out all its downsides and was completely prepared for every one of them.

If people would only do their research they would see "ahhh, it's possible to be pked in Aion in cerrtain areas, ok not for me" and move on.

Even though being pk'ed in Aion is very light weight stuff.

Did you not have a chance to listen to the audio of the stock holders meeting earlier this year? NC has no fucking clue about what the western market entails.

When half of the games so called hardcore rifters are nothing but geared out twinks that have almost no chance of losing to a bunch of undergeared leveler's, then you are going to have a problem with new blood and retention.

    It's not fucking rocket surgery.

Most of the actual decent PVP'ers left the game a while ago when they saw what it was.

No such thing as Forced PvP in any game, if you logged in (and stay logged in) then you chose a PvP game, there is nothing close to forced PvP in that system. There are a ton of PvE only games, anyone logging into a game with any PvP system is making a choice to play a PvP game.

This of course excludes those of you currently being held hostage at gun point and forced to log into a game you don't want to play. And for those of you in that situation, don't give up hope, WE ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR YOU!! RESCUE IS ON THE WAY!!!

Thats doubtful, given the difference in language and customs. All too many people have a difficult time trancending such limitations.  The bottom line, remains just that. They are foregoing the potential to make more profit if they adjusted their focus and scope in the west.  Be it through ignorance or willful disregard of the differences is irrelevant.

Honestly, rifting would be fine in its original state if they would simply take out the absurd bonuses/penalties that come with level differences. With the way the game currently handles it, it actually promotes ganking.

Get rid of the level difference penalties/bonuses, scale the defending players bonuses in accordance to how many players the attacking player has killed, and you have a really nice, gank-preventing pvp-promoting system.

This would be much easier to accept if NCSoft was offering Aion as a pay-as-you-go game with hourly-rating subscriptions like they do in Asia. Until then I suggest to pass on this title if you like to choose when to pvp or pve in your game.

Personally, I like the idea of all players being on nearly even footing with some preference given to higher level or better geared players. A slight preference, not the huge preference given now. For some reason, this goes against the whole mmorpg (not mmofps) mentality of leveling up and being really power against mobs and players who have a lower level than you. Open world style PvP needs some sort of balance and not just because of ganking. It needs it for the challenge too.

I'm actually not too worried about the lone ganker sins that plagued the servers anymore.  Main reason is because everyone and their mama can atleast get blue gear now, where as before everyone had to deal with wearing just greens. Thank you drop rate increase patch.  There are also a good amount of PvE twinks runnin around with all gold gear as well.  I don't personally have a gold geared twink character, but it's easy enough to sick the twinks on a ganker.

I think the only real pvp people are going to see cross rift would be whole groups of like minded people which is harder to hide and easier to rouse people to fight.

If you really want to, you can level all the way to the top in Aion without ever worrying about pvp. But to do so, you have to basically solo in Theobomos for half the game.

It's not a hard concept. Don't want to have to worry about random pvp? Then stay out of the zones that have rifts. I find it as annoying as anyone else to be flattened by the occassional assassin in +10 golds, but it was always fun to run into a rifter that I actually had a chance against. And even the higher-leveled, heavily twinked rifters couldn't gank with impunity - there were usually roaming parties hunting them down, which was fun as well.

Its just a beautiful Asian grinder game anyways, I played this game for 1 month but didn't live up to the hype. This will be another mmorpg that goes F2P sooner or later.

Aion will not be going F2P.  Keep in mind that it likely has higher subs in NA then pretty much every NA MMO outside of WOW such as WAR, EQ2, AOC, etc etc and it cost them next to nothing to just translate it and launch it here.  The only thing I see putting Aion into a poor state population wise will be the release of GW2 and SWTOR which I believe will pull a large majority of its population out but these wont be out until the 2nd half of 2011 at best.

lol my thoughts exactly. All this game has been reduced to is the 'haves' constantly ganking the 'have nots'. Some punks like this game so much because they feel cool and superior when their super enchanted/geared out character can 1v5 people that aren't nearly as decked out as them.

What's funny is WoW which isn't even considered to be a PvP MMO has MUCH more exciting random world PvP than Aion ever had. There have always been hottly contested battles for summoning stones, questing areas, and farming areas.

I had more fun with friends defending the elemental plataeu, TK/ST summoning stones, Hodir questing areas etc than I ever did in any Aion pvp. Don't even get me started on the STV or Mill vs Darkshore wars of the classic days.

It might work that way if there wasnt such a huge gap in themo.  Yes there is the one solo dungeon you can do from 27-34 BUT that only works if you want to sit out of the game 4 hours out of every 5.  Regardless though you will still have from 34 through 44 where your only option is in zones where you can and will get ganked regularly.

Nobody likes to be ganked and there is a visceral population of people who love to gank but not so much actual pvp where the odds are closer to even.

At any rate the people have messed up with regard to the changes and have been making the lower levels lives miserable.

Had they shown restraint they MIGHT have avoided the backlash that is about to hit with the next survey where all of the lower level players that havent left already will be making their points known.

    ----

They should have done SOMETHING to help the rank 8s.  What is cute though is that a 30 with +15 PVP gear can just demolish even the level 40s with PVE blue gear.

Seriously though, now ive read 3 pages of whine and crying.

Quit posting and just f... off then ? , if you want a choice based game where you can choose if you want to pvp or not, go play WoW or any other instanced pvp game.

This is what Aion was all about from the start when the game came out, and if you f....witz actually had a clue about what you were saying , people get a curse now a days that last for 5 hours if they gank lowbies, which means anything 9 lvl's under them selves, and they get no AP.

That 5 hour curse is something that stays with them no matter if they log out or die, and it reduces their ability to pvp at all.

I have played aion on n off since it came out and i actually still enjoy it, didnt enjoy it when they fucked it over, and no i dont have a twinked lvl 50 alt i keep at 50 just to go gank lowbies , i made a choice of starting over from scratch playing EU servers instead of US servers, yes ive been killed numerous times by lvl 50 twinks fully decked out , since they opened up rifting again, but ive also had my own share of fun heading into heiron killing anything that moved , or trying to atleast, currently at lvl 44 on my new account.

Aion was allways meant to be a Open PvP game, just like Lineage , except Lineage doesnt have 2 different worlds like Elysea and Asmodea.

    Says who? LOL

Seriously NCSoft last Q2 financial report says they are going F2P with microtransaction, it's in the report, it's not an answer I pulled out of my arse. Shatter30 don't mean to bash on your answer, next time google it up instead of replying your personnal opinion into an official reply. As for higher subs... You are dead wrong again, just google it up.

    Cliffnotes:

    - Lineage, Lineage2 and Aion goes to microtransaction system. The reason is: call back the inactive players base.

    - After the 2.0 start in oversea (EU,USA): The NCSoft will provide new operation team/knowhow, customer support, powerwiki/etc., and 'customer convininence' on same level like in Korea.

Yes and no.  I sincerely doubt Aion will adopt a pure ftp model.  They just have way too much trouble with spammers with free accounts that way.  I mean they opened up the gates for just 10 days and we had more spam per hour during those 10 days than during the prior week.

Microtransactions yes though.  I mean right now there are a ton of pets available on their online shop.  Some of which you can buy for $20 to get essentially 2 extra inventory lines.  Then there are others that transmute "junk" into better stuff which as currently implemented essentially gives you an extra quest.

Unfortunately they are going to have pets that use pet food that you can only buy online that make items.  Now that will not be as good a thing as that is a one-off kinah sale.  Depending on what the items are though it might keep the economy from running into insane levels of inflation.  I mean things definitely are getting more expensive per unit time.

I also can't help but wonder if that 15 day potion we had for solaris was not a test item for the item shop.  I mean it was a 6000/6000 potion that worked every 30 minutes for a period of 15 days.  Nice item that I will miss when it fades out(actually I may USE the 5000 hp when I was thinking they were too expensive before.  Avoiding a death is just a nice thing.

If they do something like pve medallions that make you unattackable in rift zones for a FEE -- then I will be upset.
