Offline skilling is just another grind.

PolarisationPolarisation Member Posts: 108

Apparently Aventurine loves grinding, because even the system they added to (in theory) address the grind, is itself another grind. Just reading race alliance chat on my newbie trial is pretty funny, everyone is talking about how expensive it is, how noone can afford to use it, how it doesn't level stats, the new grind for gold in addition to the grind for skills. The main forum is chockablock with threads complaining about it. Apparently you need to PVE for 2-3 hours per day just to afford the meditation points to use the offline skilling... what a joke!!!

I remember when they added those stat potions and skill scrolls that were supposed to help out newer players get competitive, but to date I;ve not heard of a single person who's actually seen one drop.

Can these guys get anything right?

I won't to point you to these comment that has been stated in the blog entry with the introduction of the meditation system :

"As we have already announced, this is the first implementation of the system. Additional skills will be added at regular intervals and the mechanics might change based on player feedback and our own observations."

yea, thats what FF14 said too, along with APB and countless other game developers.

I was pretty puzzled by the idea of offline skill system that charges fee...where fee just represents another form of the grind.

I guess that is Aventurine way of game development - shortsighted and cumbersome solutions that looks better on paper rather than in live conditions.

I don't even play this game, but to me that reads like...

"We're not really sure how to fix this, so we're going to start here, and if it works, then we'll continue with this as our foundation.  But if it doesn't work, we'll change this to something else."

I don't know.  I am honestly amazed people are still even bothering with this game.  It took them 10 years to produce a game that obviously drives people nuts on how pathetic it is.

I would give it a try, but I see absolutely no evidence that these guys have any idea about a) how to run a business and b) how to make a game.

It "drives people nuts" because they love it or loved it at some point.

They stated that they didn't wanted to upset  current playerbase so thats why they started on a high point of the cost scale on this feature. They will make adjustments if they notice it doesn't help with the lower end population on the cost.

I don't see how you conclude such stetements ah errm ..well i see...you didn't played the game yet..

I played the game for a bit I just burned out because of the extent of the grind. Now I see they have tried to address the grind by adding a different kind of grind. I think it's a bit sad because I think if there were less grind a lot more people would play it.

lol. just saying. they made a game that is still up and running and they continue to develop it. to me that is a successful game.

what you said..to me that reads like " f*cking evidence that they know how to make a game?" .... are you slow?

lol, yah its one of the all-time retard moves by a developer.  I like Darkfall, but sometimes AV does some stuff thats just really dumb.

It's just like saying "my guild can't beat LK25 heroic - can't Blizzard do anything right ?".

Just ask around in good clan, and you'll find out how to make enough gold for week of meditating in an hour.  For example - by farming skill scrolls and selling them to people who think that they are ultra-rare ...

Meditation won't replace learning how to play the game.

Meditation is not meant to curb the grind, it's meant to help newer players get skills up when they log off for the night early on in the skills. 1-25 is far cheaper than 26-50, and so on. 50+ is pretty pointless to add to, this was not a feature exactly intended for veterans. I think the problem with the system, currently, is it is a tad bit confusing a new player.

I mean to say that, because I'm new, but I do enough research to know what it's for. I don't actually use it, because I'd rather spend my gold on other things, but in theory, you can save a portion of your daily earnings and put it towards a skill you'd like to level while you sleep/work/go out.

I really like the offline skilling so far but keep in mind that I have been looking for a game to play for years so I strongly favor long-term progression.

Why do I like the offline skilling?

    - I am using it . .. so far only raised my witchcraft from 86 to 91 and it cost me about 15k I think? Totally worth it! The alternative is debuffing mobs for a couple hours straight if I wanted to gain that much in just a few days. I was able to just have fun and play and make some money to throw into mediation. Also, having to purchase a second account and risk going AFK with several thousand regs (lots more than the cost of meditation) is not my cup of tea . .. especially when you can get banned now for it.

    - I have been logging in more since it came out and I have noticed that it has been really busy since it came out. Why am I logging in more? To make sure that I earn at least a few thousand gold a day to keep this thing running because it is definitely worth it to me.

Its pretty easy to make enough money to do this, for anyone. Cap just one village or do one daily quest and that is enough for 2 days (for a vet but I guess its much cheaper for a noob).

This is exactly what I am saying. It is just another grind, and while this guy may be happy to log in and grind more, most players I talk to in game and in vent and my own experience says it is far too expensive, especially when you do not get stat and spell gains.

The developers just seem to love the idea of grinding as the game content. They have refused to address the grind or the massive power gap that exists between new and veteran players and it is killing the game little by little each day. I honestly don't think they understand the concept of a true sandbox game - that the players are the content, and that making your players grind and macro for 3-6 months before they can hope to PVP on an even level is not a good model for a sandbox game as most players are too busy grinding to experience the rest of the game.

There is talk about adding meditation points to quests, it is meant to get new players skills up faster, not for veterans to max out skills. On the Activity Report they said it will have more skills added to it in the future and stats will be as well. It's only a grind if you misuse it.

  • stuxstux Member Posts: 462

It isn't completely useless.  It is more expensive then it should be atm and limiting because it only increases the schools.

I personally think they should have something like Eve OR perpetum (sp) where you get increase in base attributes for every month you are subscribed.  Like maybe 2-3 points per attribute.

OP doesn't understand that you need to balance for risk v reward, and that its not more expensive at all for the first 50 levels

AV dont eoen play their own game so they cant possibly loVe grinding. In fact, they are making DFO2.0 as we speak.

So is it cheaper and easyer to grind stats by swimming against a wall overnight?

Is the best way to level buffs/debuffs to afk cast it on a buddy?

I thought those were the two reasons they decided to impliment a offline skill system, so everyone wouldnt be logged in swimming while they slept.

The Meditation system in my experience is too expensive in its current state. However it only trains spell schools, it doesn't get you stats.

Leveling debuffs or any offensive spell is best done on mobs. I'm more looking forward to the prestige system coming in but Meditation would be very useful if it was a little cheaper.

Meditation (Offline Skilling) doesn't increase Stats. The only skill it can raise at the moment are Magic Schools, but not the Spells in those schools, in other word, it can train Witchcraft but not the spells in the witchcraft branch. So one way or another, you'll still have to grind those skills and stats, and what better way to grind them then to AFK Macro all night!

Edit: Someone beat me to it by a few seconds it seems.

The mediatation is a joke. Why would they make it worth money? I mean... seriously???

Here's an idea, make skilling up take 3 months without macroing instead of 1.5 years with 24/7 macro/grind and you don't even need to input mediation into the game!!!
