Seems kind of foolish to blame Blizzard when you purchased from a third-party website doesn't it?

  • skeaserskeaser Member RarePosts: 4,205

Not Blizzard you're angry at. You should be mad at play.com. Blizzard just makes the games and handles digital distribution, others distribute the boxes.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

normally i would agree , but seen has there are hundreds, about 90% of people who ordered have,nt recieved their copy, that tells me they have to much demand and not enough supply.

Ordered mine last Monday and received it Friday. Not sure how unerstocked they are if I can order it release week and get it in a few days without paying for extra shipping. Next time order from Walmart's website..I guess.

  • EdliEdli Member Posts: 941

Why didn't you just went with the digital purchase? What are you gonna do with the box anyway.

  • eye_meye_m Member UncommonPosts: 3,317

Blizzard screwed up distribution. I had to pay for airshipping to get my copies on time. With the added cost, I'm losing money on each copy. Selling software is pointless anymore.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

The reason i like the disc copy is basically if i have probs with pc and i need reformatt i just install off disc, easier for me and i would think most peeps.plus i have this thing where if i pay for something i like to see wot i am getting.i know it sounds a bit stupid, just the way i am m8?

  • blondehblondeh Member UncommonPosts: 540

I will possibly offer an explination.

I work at distribution hub. Play.com have recently (last month or so) been using the hub and its distribution/logistics to move stock around the UK. As you can imagine, this time of year is the busy period for all mail order vendors. Combine that with the severe weather the UK recently suffered and ..yep you guessed it caused problems with postage. Now I'm not saying I'm completely correct. Just offering some advice as a person who sees tens of thousands of parcels and 100 of lorries a day :)

well blond. you could be right but here is a thought, i play  a lot off mmo's..i ordered star trek online and also i ordered ddo afterwards, 3 days to be precise, i have received both of them and still no warcraft in sight m8..i understand the weather is bad, but that would affect all distribution would,nt it?

  • spookydomspookydom Member UncommonPosts: 1,782

If I remember alright, same thing hapened with wotlk with my freinds who orderd it from Play. It was over a week late. They orderd Cata from the Blizz shop this time forgoing the disk's.

Some people never learn. One should never buy anything of Blizzard from 3rd party sellers.  Should have bought the expansion digital directly from Battle.net/Blizzard Store and have it auto download using the World of Warcraft Launcher/Patcher.  Less hassle that way.

I know that several of my friends who live in the UK are already playing CATA on the UK Servers due to getting the expansion via Battle.net/Blizzard Store via Digital download via the Launcher/Patcher.

  • kevjards1234kevjards1234 Member Posts: 30

normally Thal. i would do that but because we have crappy d/load speed where i live in UK i tend to go for the discs because it has most of updates on if i ever need to reformat pc. so less d/loading to do, but i was,nt being nieve when i tcomes to things like this, my general question was if anyone else was having the same problem. and ofc i would have got the digital d/load if i lived in a good b/band area, but i dont, luck of the draw i suppose.

It wouldnt affect all distriubtion. For instance parcels locally were not as affected, but lorry loads going from Scotland to the south of England or vice versa were badly effected. Lorries were having to turn back it was that bad.

Wierd how u got STO and DDO have arrived and no CAT, maybe Blizzard are to blame, maybe they fell short of the numbers they needed to supply play.com :(

Also a friend of mine is waiting on delyaed parcels from play.com none are games i believe.

question. If you order a steak at a restaurant and end up waiting two hours for it to finally come to your table, do you blame the farm?

  • grapevinegrapevine Member UncommonPosts: 1,927

I'm surprised people still order from play.com, they are terrible for delivering on time.   I used to use them, until I got sick of all my pre-orders being late.   Its not Blizzard, its play.com.  Mainly because they have an offshore warehouse.  Avoid, if delivery times are critical.

Although I ordered it myself from Amazon.  On the Sunday I checked, and they hadn't dispached.  Given Cataclysm went live in the UK at 11pm on the Monday, I canceled and just bought the digital copy directly from Blizzard.

  • VolkmarVolkmar Member UncommonPosts: 2,501

play.com is a great site... and it is really cheap and offer free postage.

Why do you think Amazon does not?

When I order from Amazon I get my stuff in 1-5 days, with most stuff in the 3 days range. Perfectly fine (I live in Finland). When I order from play.com, they will arrive, but it might take weeks. I KNOW that, so if I need something on time, I either go to buy it from a brick and mortar shop or order elsewhere.

You say this is Blizzard fault, well, ok, maybe, but if that would be the case then ALL postal places would be affected, including Amazon and all other small ones. Do you have any news that is the case? OR it is just play.com?

Ordered some dvd's as xmas presents from Play 9am last thursday where here by Saturday OP may be onto something.

Play has always been a excellent site every MMO i have ever pre-ordered has always arrived a day or 2 EARLY I get PES for the PS3 every year from play it arrives a day EARLY.

Seeing them have delays like this is indeed a rarity even with weather time of year etc i would be inclined to say this is the fault of whoever provides the game to Play whether Blizz direct or a middle man.

Quick bit of research edit it does well appear to be a supplier issue.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/World-Warcraft-Cataclysm-Expansion-Pack/dp/B002MPPSGW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292319698&sr=8-1

Just look at the amount of 1 star reviews of getting it 3-6 days late and again Amazon is usually perect here in the UK i did every bit of my Xmas shopping all my daughters toys etc on the 6th all 32 items on that order have now arrived and that was on the free supersaver delivery.

Well, they did sell 3.3 million copies in 24H so it is not unlikely that they just couldn't print up enough for all orders they have...

    But it is annoying.

Got a tip for you, dont buy STO and DDO and get a better connection, get digital copy and be happy.

The weather could be the problem I suppose. I still don't understand how a country as far north as the UK cannot be prepared for bad winter weather! I am from the U.S. but I am currently studying in Scotland for my Master's and it blows my mind how poorly the snow and ice removal is done! I heard that last year the elderly were starving in Aberdeen because they feared going out and slipping on the ice!!

Anyway, I am sorry to hear about your trouble with play.com.  I have not ordered Cataclysm because 1) I am trying to finish up my semester, 2) my friends are not playing it yet, 3) I have a North American account but I am in the UK, and 4) don't feel like shelling out the 30 quid for it when it is less expensive in the States. However, I do know that all the GAME's in Aberdeen have boxes of the game in-store and that HMV had boxes of Cata and one CE as well in-store!  I don't know where you live in the UK but surely if Aberdeen is this well stocked it cannot be too long before you receive yours!

Likely they have actually posted, but somewhere in the delivery system the packets have got stuck. I just read news about 2 week delay in packed deliveries with some packet distributors, and online stores which aren't taking orders from certain areas in UK because they can't get them shipped.

At least don't blame Blizzard. If it were Blizzard's fault, I think play.com would be eager to push the responsibility to Blizzard. Why would they take the hit themselves claiming "packets have been posted" if Blizzard had failed them and not delivered packets to them?

EDIT: Mesmerise: UK is an island, and it's warmed by ocean currents which normally bring warm winds, so the winter weather is normally very mild compared to snow storms possible in USA. It follows that also the readiness for winter weather is also worse /EDIT

No retailer in there right mind would pass the buck to Blizzard.

Imagine how much those businesses make from Blizzard products compared to how much they might lose from a couple of thousand disgruntled customers.

It would make no business sense.

We had the same winter weather last year and the country fell apart we prepared for it this time and the whole country still fell apart UK is a lazy country and people will use any excuse to not to there job properly.

Civil Servants eg govt workers 2 weeks ago got a few days off due to snow fully paid for by the taxpayers money with no precautions for allowing people to work from home.  Those same days our education system did not shut down and I trapsed my 3 year old to Nursery through the snow.  In fact the whole North East ran pretty smoothly we have a different ethic up here though despite being the worst hit area whilst we had 10" + of snow the south shut all their schools down etc for 2" of snow.  Soft shandy drinking southerners :)

I understand that particularly for England and Wales but Aberdeen? Aberdeen is considered a sub-artic climate, surely the city council could put aside some money for snow and ice removal, especially since this is becoming a regular occurence over the past several years. I meant no disrespect to the rest of the UK but when you are as far north as Aberdeen, you might expect snow and ice...
