SWG , even though it seems SOE is doing everything it can to ensure it's demise. It's a MUCH better game now, but has horribly imbalanced populations (one mega laggy server) and over half the rest are ghost towns. It's saddening really.
Played: Asheron's Call(still the best fantasy MMO!), EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard, DAoC, Horizons, City of Heroes/Villians, WoW (crap), LOTORO, D&D Online, Eve, Anarchy Online, and still playing SWG daily.
How is WoW innovating anything? All it did was rip off previous MMOs and dumb it all down. I understand that it's even more dumbed down from people getting off the Blizzard teat with every expansion, and I found the original game dumb.
Every medium needs it's Adam Sandler I guess. Hugely popular, even though for no discernible reason, but stupid people eat it up.

I had to be honest here. I voted for LotRO. CCP spent the first half of the year with it's forums ablaze after a couple PR mishaps. Turbine introduced a wonderful tiered payment model that tripled it's player base size virtually over night. Maybe I'll vote for eve next year if incarna delivers, of course it needs to be better than Lotros Isengard expansion.
City of Heroes and City of Villains needs to be merged, and all of the Guild Wars entries need to merged as well. These aren't separate games.
That being said, I went with the game that I've had the most fun with this year, and that game is...
City of Heroes
A massive amount of new content, several new game systems to play with, an entirely new faction, a new moral alignment system, new power combinations...the list just keep going on an on. The genre isn't for everyone (I'm not much for the genre myself, actually), but the game is simply fun in ways that no other MMOs are.
Yup, everything here.
LOTRO's transition to f2p was a success for their wallets but an utter fail if you were already a paying customer and now have to deal with the repeated breakdowns, lags, delays and servers full of meatheads who don't care about the game instead of what used to be a fantastic community. The only reason I'm still playing LOTRO is I have a lifetime sub, and I love my giant spider. PvE in LOTRO is brainless and they haven't added any ACTUAL content in a long time.
City of Heroes, I've had an account since it came out, and there is no game out there that has steadily improved and added so much over time, and this year was a real success for the Paragon team.
I'll be handing my vote to EvE. It's the only game I'm aware of that has continually improved since it's inception. They've consistently added new kinds of ships, new missions, did a complete upgrade of thier graphics, intorduced player owned stations, wormholes, Planetary interface sleepers and with the release of Incursion, will upgrade the toons to look far more realistic and have massive Sansha invasions. There is always somethings in the works at CCP and the next great thing will be to allow players to walk around stations. Best of all they have a stellar management team that provides a direct link from players to programers such that good player ideas can get implemented. Try doing that with a Sony game.

Whilst I completely agree with you in principle, there are a large number of people here for whom any mention of EVE is enough to provoke burning outrage. Therefore I cannot resist voting for it, since the lulz and tears to be had if it wins cannot be passed up.
the one game that shows the industry how to innovate and keep millions of customers happy.
while the rest of the industry still doesnt get it."
LOL, the only thing Blizzard proved was that there are millions of idiots in the world willing to throw their money away!
I spy with my little eyes a fail imminent in these words above me.
I agree with cerebrix about "keeping millions of customers happy" but smh at everything else. Y'guys, use your BRAINS. They're not a pool of gray mush that resemble your latest reincarnation of mashed potato.
you cleary have NO brains at all or just FAILED to use them then as the only fail is in YOUR post. Ron pack is right. wow is nothing new and never has been, nor will it ever be. blizzard have never made an original game in thier history and I doubt they ever will. All they can do is rip off other people ideas. wow is the aohell of mmos. I remember a time when aohell claimed to have 30 million users now where is ?.
Top 3 MMO's PRE-CU SWG GW1 GW2
Worst 2 wow and Lotro Under standing stones it went woke
Im going with Final Fantasy XIV, every update they put on it in order to round off those rough edges goes unnoticed by many players and i really like the game.
Where's "None of them"? IMHO MMO market has the same products, nothing of really innovative on the horizon. I'm very disappointed by this genre, atm. I'm hoping in Rift and TERA, but i suppose that they will be like other MMO games. No new ideas, no ne concepts... it's a great desert full of games.
After years of enjoyment with City Of....I have let my subscription lapse....my only true love now is THE LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE....the BEST fantasy MMORPG out...period...End of discussion.

After all, I am an EVE player.

LoTRO- beautiful world and the nicest community. I log in and have a looooooong list of things to do and that makes it a joy to play.
Let's not kid ourselves here. GotY will be whichever MMO company buys the most ads @mmorpg.com
But I maintain that EVE should be a repeat winner.
So you were the one!
Wizard 101 hands down
Your imagination is as big as the universe
Runes of Magic !!!!!
Wizard101 4EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
While not being the most innovative or having success with its expansions this year EVE Online is still by far the best MMORP out there for my taste.
Im going with Final Fantasy XIV, every update they put on it in order to round off those rough edges goes unnoticed by many players and i really like the game.

My blog about (no more)MMORPG Addicted - a bog about videogames, cinema, politics and other things (in Italian)
When are the results coming out?
Had to vote WOW >.< no matter the hate , they can get this year biggest MMO again cause competition still sucks !!
Lets see if next year competition finally has enough content and steam .
That there is another game to really vote for .
EVE
eve
without a doubt, EVE online
EVE all day erry day
After years of enjoyment with City Of....I have let my subscription lapse....my only true love now is THE LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE....the BEST fantasy MMORPG out...period...End of discussion.
Eve gets my vote, once you figure out the game, you cant stop playing it or coming back to it.
