Ranking and MMORPG.com ... how does it work?

chris081888chris081888 Member UncommonPosts: 34

I've seen in another thread that your ranking on the site will go down if you receive warnings and the like, but how does your ranking go up?

Is it just based on your number of posts, or is it based off of what the users/moderators think etc.

Ranks are calculated every day at 2:00AM EST.  They are only based on the last 30 days of data.  We look at the following factors when determining your rank:

    • How many days you visited the site (and logged in).  This is also counted when you use our "autologin" feature.

    • How much information you have posted in our forums (not the amount of posts)

    • The quality of your posts.  If you post lot of "filler" posts that only consist of a few words this will cost you rank points.

    • Any posts of yours that had to be deleted will cost you 5 rank points (there are only 100 total).  To prevent your posts from being deleted, please obey our Rules of Conduct.

Ranks, however, are meaningless on this site.

It may be meaningless to some, however there are others that see it as something to strive for in forums.

When you see a post about a game or an opinion on parts or whatever, it holds more weight to new people from someone with full rank than it does from someone with no ranking, regardless on the number of posts showing.

If you want full rank that badly then find a forum here and make posts several paragraphs long. Also try to find a quote string several quotes long then add a several paragraph post of your own to it. The politics and religion forum will do. You can have 5 stars within a week.

Most of those of us who have been here for a while don't track our star count. We don't track other's star counts. You can log in daily and get 3 stars.

You can care about your star count. You can care about other's star count. Don't expect others to care about your star count.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you need to care about it, and frankly I just wanted to know how it worked.

Not looking to start an argument or have cynical people start on it, just wasn't sure what it was about and in most forums, ranking like that shows the communities respect for that person. Mind you, most forums I go to are tech forums so it's a little different.

Thanks for the information though, it was useful.

I have 5 stars, and I'm the bane of every mod's existence. They have my posts on speed-dial for throwing out warnings.

    Wonder how that works...

    Scripting? Lol.

I used to run a forum way back when. I had it setup so that certain users had to go through an approval process because they were known trouble makers, but they also had alot of valuable uinput and I just couldn't bring myself to ban them.
