I think this game is really underrated and IMO is the first next gen MMO. Add proper loot and equipment (with the option to change appearance or not) and it would be loved more by the masses.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I agree! This game is very casual freindly, and I don't think I had to grind once the entire time I've played this game (have 3 level 40's ). could use a lot of work on pvp though.

Do not mistake Indifference for Hate. Nor Kindness for Weakness. for this is the Bane of Judgment !

lol what is "Next gen" about CO

It's not underated at all, it's one of the cheapest MMOs made and it shows. Casual friendly is probably the only positive thing to say about CO, but it just another way of saying "very little content"

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

The game has very little incentives to group and is basically lacking an end game. So I would not say it is the next gen MMO, even though it was fun to play for a couple of weeks and the open ended skill system was nice.

Except that one of the best things about the game is that there isn't a heavy dependence on loot.

I think the "endgame" is going to end up being do any one of a bunch of things in elite mode for the primary items with extra stats.  Unfortunately, "a bunch of things" at the moment basically means two adventure packs.

Getting a game like EQ or WoW etc. and sticking new graphics on it is the direction this genre is heading. With Champions they did what they wanted and didnt copy 'everything' thats already been done, its a subtle attempt at something different. The whole playstyle feels different whilst keeping with almost all MMO conventions and features. If casual means having access to things like multiple travel options right from the start, without grinding or levels on money, then bring me more casual MMO's. The devs attitudes are different, thats why I think its next gen. They are taking thier game in a different direction. Might not to be to many peoples taste, but if the whole industry adopted this attitude then it would be alot more interesting.

I also agree CO is underrated and that it is, in some ways, next gen. I used to play CoX where there was always the urge to grind to the maximum level and this was very difficult to do without teaming. CO doesn't have that grind. There is not a necessity to team but you can if you want to and it's much easier to enjoy the journey. The play style is faster, more humourous and more arcade like too. It was designed with the casual gamer in mind more so than CoX which suits me much better. Oh, and the custom power framework is awesome. You can create such a variety of heroes such as an archer with guns who can spit flames and fly with rocket boots.

MMOS be damned if they have no grind in end and MMOS still be damned if they have grind. Just shows that no matter what the end game is players are never happy.

Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

Im picking on WoW btw because its the beast that made all of this possible

It's just that MMO players have become a much more diverse group over time - more diverse than a lot of MMO players want to realize.

What makes one MMO player happy is something that another MMO player absolutely hates.

To me, CO wasn't a terrible game.  It was enjoyable to play.  That's what a game is supposed to be.  I wasn't looking for a "relationship" with it, like many others appear to be.

The MMO community is funny.  If a game isn't "great" (and how many games of any genre are actually great), then it's "epic fail".  There's no middle ground, because too many are irrationally emotional when it comes to MMOs.  They aren't looking for a fun game to simply play - they are looking for a relationship.  Weird.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

By no means is this a terrible game, but it is certainly the most ordinary and bland mmo I have ever played. I love comicbooks and enjoyed 3 years in City of Heroes, you can moan about the endgame and grind, but no other mmo makes the grind so evident and painful so early in the game, I found zero involvement or immersion in the gameworld and a community that barely communicates, its quite an odd and disillusioning experience.
