Fallen earth is a breath of fresh air, I've "lost the tights".
The graphics are great, the visuals blew me away and the whole general atmosphere of the game definetly is a feeling of an Apocalyptic world as I would persume it to be.
If your looking for that something different then give it a try.
Let me try and put Fallen Earth into perspective:
You cant put your horse in your backpack, it stays out and must be fed.
You can actually head shot with a crossbow. And use sights.
You can build vehicles that are made with actual vehicle parts that must be crafted.
The crafting is interesting, vast and varied.
Towns and zones get nuked!
The zones are massive.
Anway, Im enjoying Fallen earth, its the sort of title that we need.

I agree that having an MMO that fills a different niche than the fantasy theme park niche is great. That said, Fallen Earth still has some very rough edges.
Combat is still very clunky, as are the overall controls. The interface is also rough. Although not big deals, I think given that MMO players are used to at least a certain level of shine on a product, I bet that many first time players will have trouble getting past the cumbersome control/ UI scheme and leave.
It[object Window]s good to see the developers are constantly updating the game, but until they make some serious strides with combat and controls, Fallen Earth will serve a smaller niche that perhaps they could have.
It's a small company tackling a big project, for what its worth, they did a tremendous job.
-They didn[object Window]t just copy&paste
-They introduced original mechanics to the genre
-Didn[object Window]t take the easy road and do a mmo clone
-They didn[object Window]t get the news and ad coverage that big companies can afford
-They been improving the game a lot since launch
That brings me to the point, with such talented and devoted team, what would happenned if they had the same budget as other major?
-Fold and do what every major companies are doing? Reduce risk and protect investment
-Go to 11?
Who knows, one thing for sure, with companies like Blizzard which can take up to 3-4 times the developping cycle for a product that is polished but the same level as others, get tons of coverage and call it a success, you can rest assure other will follow.
Stacraft 2 a revelation? AH! Mechanic wise it[object Window]s sub par to most RTS out there, but the Blizz media machine and polished product turn it into [object Window]super[object Window] RTS all of a sudden.
I agree to a point, that is, regardless of the size of the company they need to consider the price being paid. In short if you charge AAA prices for a game, you better put out AAA quality. I too enjoy the game and appreciate what they face however, in order to increase population they will have to address some issues to bring the game to peak.
thnx all for your interesting and informative replies.
I have now subscribed to fallen earth.

The feeling of 'omg this game is awesome and everything I ever dreamed off' lasted 8 weeks for me. After that the clunky controls and combat and the horrible graphics and animations stopped me from logging in. So please don't hype people on the fence about FE too much. You're totally being subjective at the moment and it could cost people money they could spend on something they actually like. I suggest trying the game through trial (if available) or scoop it up during a sale on Steam for example.
Enjoy it while it lasts, comes to mind.
Yeah, there are currently only two games I consider playing.
WoW because of it's quality, and FE because of it actually beeing something different.
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
a 30 day trial is currently on offer.

I canceld a while back also. I liked the combat personally and loved the crafting. Great community. It just got a bit too much like a post apocalyptic wasteland. Nearly zero interaction with other players. I found myself spending all my time burning through my credits in the casinos. Hopefully they will continue to add content and some more multiplayer elements so that I might return!
When did you cancel? the last big patch made the game overall more difficult. 'group' missions are now difficult, even with decent gear and up-to-date mutations and skills. I resubbed as a result. I have team a lot more than launch, though I still think more multiplayer stuff should be encouraged.

QFT, if you've never played an fps before to compare this game to it maybe good. But seriously this game is ages behind in combat and controls. I seriously have no clue why anyone plays this game.
I can't explain how bad the controls and combat is in comparison to other fps games.
I cancelled back in early December for basically the reason stated by angrymime, I seemed to be almost alone out there, and even the two guilds I joined couldn't seem to put even 5 people online at the same time. (I actually had more fun in the starter guild that everyone joins until level 25).
It was a pretty fun game, but playing it solo wasn't so I went and joined WOW again.

I am now level 31.
And I agree with most of the other comments. I have been in a group maybe 5 times throughout.
The game is a solo game. But that is why I like it soo much.
I have terrible memories of sitting in EQ for days trying to get a group.
I can't explain how bad the controls and combat is in comparison to other fps games.
Maybe because it's not a first person shooter game?
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
you tick a box in options and it is a first person shooter during combat. very usefull for rifle char
Thanks this is exactly what I was looking for. I've stopped playing long time ago for the same reasons and it seems nothing has changed regarding that. Not comming back until they make combat more interesting and appealing.
I canceled my sub back in october after looking at the PTS changes to combat, in fact making combat harder and now requiring groups at level 45+, the mere fact nobody groups now unless its a pvp event.
Last time I logged in and did a player search a total of 32 players were online from levels 1-50 this being around 7:30 pm cst.
They do have a devoted following and I have no clue why.
I played fallen earth awhile back, and I enjoyed the game with one exception. As long as there are mutations I won't play, it's a personal preferance and I just can't get over it. In my opinion no matter what they want to call them its magic and has no place in post apoc.
Who said that? They certainly were part of the original Fallout 1&2 world.
REALITY CHECK
I resubbed a few days ago , they send me an offer for like 5$ a months time .
I am glad i did , so much different from fireballs and the same over and over.
I enjoy riding my bike aggain and yes i find it much harder now than last year , combat has also improved.
Get into a nice guild and the game is great , dunno for how long i will be playing but after all , who cares so many games out there .
I kinda like this game, it is an mmo that hasn't copy&pasted like the rest tend to do. It have quite a fallout feel to it. So if your an fallout fan, this game MAY suite you.
It is as said, kinda rough on the edges, but it do evolve. I logged in today, and it was most certainly not the same game last time I logged in. It was improved on many points, atleast in the low level "get to know the game" part. That wasn't even there way back. Back then, you were praticly thrown into the game, with alittle to no clue wth you suppose to go or do.
In a nutshell: If you ever played Ryzom, FE is similar, but with content.
I was in the beta of FE back in the day, and although I liked the post-apocalyptic setting, there were too many issues to stick with it at launch. On a whim I downloaded the trial a few days ago, and I've been having a blast. Here are some observations:
Graphics: The setting looks good. Although you still have building and some of the structures popping into view as you get closer, the terrain and larger building can be seen for MILES. The character models look... ok... as long as they aren't moving. The animation need some help, and it is supposedly on the top of the devs list.
Combat: Although it isn't as fluid as a true FPS game, it's a lot more interesting than most MMOs out there. You actually have to aim, and headshots actually cause extra damage. It's nice to feel like you're involved in the fight after playing so many games where you just select a target, hit auto-attack, and trigger some special moves.
Class/Advancement: FE has no classes, just skills that you improve with points. I've always preferred this to class based systems, so it's a large selling point for me.
Crafting: You can craft almost anything in the game, which is nice. The actual crafting mechanics are interesting, with some recipes taking a long time to complete. You can, however, do other things while waiting for them to finish, including log off. It's not as involved and interactive as some other games, but it's not a bad system.
Setting/World: The world is very large. I would estimate the the first sector is almost the same size as the entire wasteland represented by Fallout 3. Although I haven't been very many places, from what I can tell the whole world is seamless. I even went into an instance of a mine, and never saw a loading screen. I opened a door, walked down into the same mine I was in earlier, and noticed that there were some changes to the mobs and props in the place. I actually ran out and back in just to see if I could determine at what point I entered my own private instance, and I couldn't. Whatever other technical flaws the game has, this was done very well.
Community: I suppose I went (back)into the game expecting the worst, especially since there is currently a 30-day free trial, but I have been extremely impressed. I can't really remember another MMO in which the global 'Help' channel was ACTUALLY helpful. There seems to be a GM present at all times, and they get involved in the channel, and through /tell, helping people with questions or issues. A lot of the big companies could take a lesson from the support in Fallen Earth.
So, should people go out and buy this game? Obviously trying it first is a must, and the 30-day trial makes that easy. I recall a time when the flash, glitz, and level of polish wasn't as important as the game-play. FE reminds me of those times. It may be that I'll grow tired of the stiff animations after a few months, but I get tired of a lot of games in that amount of time. If you like the post-apoc setting, or just want something that isn't like other games, this is definitely worth a look.
My MAJOR gripe at the moment that it is almost entirely a solo game and i have yet to see a group or anyone wanting to.
I find the graphics reminiscent of SWG and i find the environment effects astounding - Look around at sunrise or sunset, the sunglare and bloom effects, with the sunrays creeping through from behind objects. I'll post some screenies tonight. I would like to point out before i do that they are taken (and i play the game) on max settings available, so it is the best it will look. People complain about FPS; well my system was built 3 years ago and runs any game to date still on max, so maybe they should not buy PC's in a box and expect Michael Dell to make them awesome
Needs more social tools, reasons to group, epic PvE content, faction warfare, housing, end game goals.
But i must emphasise the social bit, it is very much a single player game with chat atm - and the only chat to be found is in /help.
True true. Have subbed 3 times in the past for 1 or 2 months and had a good time, but that always made me leave. Have only gotten a longer subscription this time because I got in a new clan that has events almost weekly and works on crafting and leveling together. Still it should be so hard.

I've joined what i believe is the biggest clan in the game, with over 1100 members. Although i think alot of those are trials. Still, usually a good 30-40+ players on each night, although probably only handful of those chat, if anyone does at all. I was stood next to two of them in Tech town and not a word. All going about their business solo.
Never heard a word in Region chat, a couple people use faction chat. As for PvP, i queued to join bloodsports and not a single other player was queued also.
As it stands, the only thing that qualifies this as an MMO, is the knowledge that there may be other players somewhere playing somewhere ingame at the same time as you. Which is a shame, as it has so much potential and great features, but people just want to play solo it seems. No MMO can compete for storyline, production values and content with a single player game, so wtf do they get out of it? You occasionally pass a player in a car on the road, you may aswell wear rags.
I agree there doesn't seem to be a lot of grouping, or reason to do so. Several games in the past have had this issue, with Asheron's Call 2 coming to mind. The lack of grouping was what eventually killed that game, so I'd like to see something done to prevent that from happening to FE. As I mentioned above, there's a lot to like about this game, so if they can get a few things shored up, it could really be a monster.
