Need some help in knowing exactly what to buy.

I played WoW for about 6 months back at launch and leveled a hunter up to about 42-43 but haven't really played since. I tried to log back on to the same character once but really couldn't remember almost anything about what was in my inventory and the various icons on the screen. Since then I haven't thought much about WoW until I heard the guys talking about the new expansion on last week's weekend confirmed. With my finals over and a few weeks before the next semester begins, this seemed the perfect time to try again. This time I wanted to start completely from scratch. I waited until today to grab the new expansion after work, but in my rush to grab it as fast as possible without anyone seeing me (I was so ashamed to be buying WoW, I actually bought 3 other things just so I could cover it up as I carried it through the store) I didn't take the time to read the box and realize it was just an expansion. The fact that it was $20 less than I expected should have tipped me off, but I figured that it was just a trade off for the subscription.

So now I won't be able to kick off my second attempt at WoW without first buying the previous games(no longer have original and never bought other expansions). I figured I could just return this one and find a $60 all-in-one, but it appears this product doesn't exist. I also can't seem to find a reduced $40 Wrath of the Lich King all-in-one either. From what I can gather, it seems that if I am approaching this as a new player I'd need to buy the $20 Warchest with the Original WoW and Burning Crusade, the $40 Wrath expansion, and the $40 Cataclysm expansion on top of the monthly subscription(I assume the first month or so is free). $100 just to bring new players in makes absolutely no sense and so I know I've got to be wrong on this one.

Can someone point me in the direction of the $60 all-in-one version or at least the $60 Combo pack?

I've seen WoW for 5 bucks, Burning crusade for 5 bucks, and Wrath for 10 bucks... think it was directly from Blizzard, i'll see if I can find more details for ya.

Unfortunately, the $5/$10 thing seems to have been a limited time offer.  The blizzard store currently has upped it's prices again.

My advice to you is: see if the store can refund you on cataclysm. I currently play WoW, EVE and GW.

WoW is a time demanding game. If you got only a couple of weeks to play before school is up again, i dont think the investiment you have to make to pick up WoW again is a good investiment. Try to pick up another game that is cheap and not time demanding. If not an MMO, you can buy a FPS to have some fun, like Battlefield bad company 2.

You could pick up GW. Its a nice F2P game, you can solo or play it with your friends, and its a very nice polished game. You can also try Atlantica Online, Zentia or Runes of magic, being this last one very similar to WoW.

I would also recommend Age of Conan, since its a very beautiful game and its now the game that it should have been at the launch. Easy to pick up, play, have fun, and take a break when needed.

Sorry if my writing sucks or things im writing doesnt make any sense...im drunk while trying to play my Worgen druid in WoW...

It really throws me that one would have to pay nearly $100 as a first timer to WoW. I've never seen an MMORPG offer their newest expansion/ full previous version for more than the normal $50-$60. I'm not upset at all but rather just really confused. I know the long-term vets have about $180 invested from launch to now but how can they expect to bring in new people with the current model? I've been around MMORPGs since the first year or two of UO and this is completely new one to me.

You could live with the warchest until you need the other two - As a new player your only advantage from the latter expansions will be the goblins and worgen.

    Hello

My advice would be to just buy the original wow without any expansions.Goes for around 10-15$ retail nowadays, maybe even less if ur lucky

Assuming you want to start a new character: you only need the original game, really. Cataclysm is unnecessary at that level, and by and large you shouldn't be looking to buy Cata until you've reached 80. What I'd suggest is buying the original WoW, downloading all the patches (that'll be a lot of data by now) and seeing whether or not you reach 60. If you do, then go and buy the Burning Crusade. If you then reach 70, go and buy Wrath. Finally, if you reach 80 and still want to keep playing go and buy Cata. The battlechest could be an option if it nets you a discount, but, yeah, if you're starting afresh you only need the original WoW (all you lose is one class you wouldn't be able to play anyway at that point and two races per faction, but that's essentially just aesthetics anyway.)

RIFT was a *crushing* disappointment; a shallow, loveless, generic MMO the likes of which hasn't been seen in a P2P format since, well, forever.

Eagerly awaiting: World of Darkness, ArcheAge.
