Hey all,
I just wanted to remind everyone to use a different password for this game than you use for email, other games, etc... I got lazy and used the same password I use for the email account I signed up with (stupid, I know, I'm usually more careful) and the email account got hacked today, spamming links to malicious sites to everyone in my address book.
Just finished virus scan, nothing. PC wasn't even on at the time the spam emails were sent from my account. The only thing I did this week, related to that email account and password was to sign up for Vindictus!
I doubt they are phishing directly, but rather their security measures must not be up to par. Of course, that would disuade me from ever entering credit card or other financial info on their site, ever!
I guess that's a problem with some of the F2P games, you can't count on user info being kept secure. Heck, even some of the big companies have occasional lapses, so no surprise with low budget offerings!

I won't go over the details because it's not worth wasting time on, but the issue is by no mean related to Vindictus. If it was, believe me, we'd hear complains at every corner of this website and Nexon's.
Since this is the very first time I've heard of this regarding this game, I suspect there is something else at play here. No pun intended.

I keep my antivirus, anti-malware efforts up to date. I don't fall for phishing schemes. I have a NAT firewall AND zonealarm, etc...
I haven't had any PC security issues in a number of years.
I just completed full scans of my PC and laptop with Avira and Malwarebytes, nothing. PC and laptop were both off when the hacked email sent out it's spam to all in my address book.
I've had that hotmail address for at least 7 years, with out any issues.
I DID make the lazy mistake of setting up my Vindictus game account using the same password for the game that had been associated with the email account (to make it worse, it was the same email used when setting up the game). With in a few days of doing so, the email account was hacked in this way.
I like the game, a lot. I've posted positive views on the game on this site.
It seems highly probably to me that security was compromised when setting up this account. People should always be careful about using the same password for game accounts that are used elsewhere. I usually know better, but laziness won out here.
I'd add that one of the sites advertizing free nexon points on the official website is flagged by circle of trust as being untrustworthy and a source of malware, which just redoubles my suspicion about security.
Just be careful. If you want to play, it might be a good idea to set up a new, free email account just for this purpose and make sure you don't reuse another password in use. I'd also be careful about how I purchased Nexon points, if I ever did decide that something in the cash shop was worth buying.
Added note: The password itself was strong, my mistake was reusing it. Changed my email PW and security questions for the email. I'm betting I won't have any more issues.

Not sure why this happened to you. I've never heard of this, and personally had no problems myself. It was probably something else despite your 5 star security system.
He who keeps his cool best wins.
Or they could have just brute forced your password, or used a tactic to get you to enter your password in at a website designed to steal your info, or you could of been keylogged, or your password could have been something silly like "password" ...
There's a number of different ways your email could have been comprimised other than through the game.
Also, a lot of popular virus scanners miss stuff. So use more than one. try malware bytes or spybot s&d aswell.
Yeah, Virus Scanners aren't very good with Root-kits and rarely detect them for exemple. Even Spybot S&D has trouble with them, at least it detects them but has issues deleting the root-kits so you have to do it manually :P
System still coming up clean (if an attack is brand new, AV may not have the proper definitions right away). Since changing the password, no signs of further email account hijacking (a virus would just re-compromise the system).
Because viruses on my system have been so rare since I really tightened up my security a few years ago, I still think it's too much of a coincidence with the timing not to have been related to signing up for (or into) this game.
On the plus side, since it doesn't seem to in any way infect the system, if people avoid my mistake and make sure to use a totally fresh password (and maybe even a new, free email address), it's very likely they won't be vulnerable.

its always a good idea to use free junk email addys for f2p games, that way 4chan doesnt find you later, and we all know its 4chan that goes around brute forcing sites they dont like.
I second this warning.. I decided to disregard it and what happened was soon after starting a download my battle.net account password was changed and then the only email I had with the same pass was changed thankfully I had them connected to a differnt one with a differnt password and was able to reset it..don't know whats going on but seems like some one is piggy backing something on their downloader.
I have to say it is highly unlikely the problem is with the game. We try to keep user information and security at a premium for players.
Having said that, it is very important to keep a password list and do NOT use the same password over different platforms (games, email, etc). This is just inviting trouble that you can't tract down.

I do the same thing with allot of my passwords and I do worry about what you are going through. My WoW account is a totally different password. Keeping a list is a good idea and have done it in the past, but I got lazy.
