Worth playing if new to the game?

I've semi-successfully avoided WOW for years.  I've played other MMOS and I dabbled in the game for a short while but never really played it.  For someone who is completely new to the game, is this worth picking up now?  Should I even bother?  The new expansion and all this talk about it has gotten me interested... I've truthfully been interested for a long time but avoided for some reason other than just goofing around in it back in like 2005.

Two reasons I think you should. . and I am  not playing it.

    1)  Based on some recent releases you will get more time and enjoyment out of WoW even if you cancel after 2 months.

    2)  If you are worried about catching up. . don't be. . leveling is fast

They had the game and all the expansions except the new one for $20. . not sure if they still do.  Buy that and try it out.  You don't need Cata to play.

If you can spare $20 it is worth it to see what they have done.  The game is not so much for me. . but worth looking at.

We  need to know what you expect out of gaming,do we not ??

What are you looking to get for FUN out of Wow ,and maybe someone wil ltell you if it is worth our time and money.

Even better yet,MOST games have free trials,Eq2/Wow/FFXI/LOTRO ect ect and many F2P games as well such a Runes of Magic that accomplishes exactly what Wow does only for free.

I suggest a trial before forking over any cash, but honestly expect identical gaming thorughout the game>>>questing treadmill.

I can tell you this much,i have done several trials on several servers, and ONLY with the recent update has the noob zones been busy,so if hurry, you will see other players, before the latest updates, the noob zones were completely dead.

If you don't mind solo questing, then WoW isa  great game.  If you like to run instances/dungeons, then WoW has a tool that makes it a snap to find a group for. Sure there is a questing treadmill, but you are no longer practically forced to do certain zones due to the lower exp requirements to lvl. Plus since their lower zones were updated, there are more variety of quests, not just fedex runs or go to Y and kill X of Z. Those are still there, just not as dominate any more.  Also, overall there are a ton of timesinks to keep one busy in WoW from lvling proffessions and doing achievements if thats your thing. But like the person above me said, try the trial.

Not entirely true at the moment, all of the zones seem to be brimming with players at all levels, especially with the changes in those zones and the two new race areas, but that will only last a couple of months i guess so now is probably the best time to give it a try.

Trial is the best way to go and see how you get on.

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

    Uh??

I had the opposite experience. During my years of WoW, low level zones have ALWAYS been populated. I've never had problems finding groups for quests or for instances if I had that fancy and always saw people running around here and there.

I played on EU servers, on several of them, all RP or RP-PvP but the experience was about the same :P

I would honestly say no, unless elitism doesn't bother you. But the game has been so infested with ignorant players that it just takes away the fun of the game. Cataclysm has brought back difficulty (well, difficult for WoW anyway), but the damage done to the base of players is irreversible, so even if you reach end-game content, good luck ever clearing it, because World of Warcraft players are as stupid as they come.

So basically, you'd be paying Blizzard every month for absolutely nothing unless you count being verbally abused by every prepubescent dick you group with.

If you don't like challenge (challenge does not equal time spent grinding) in your games then sure, hop in.

What is challenging about video games? Really that is a myth.

    Ever hear of EVE?

We like to play MMOs because real people aren't as interesting, real exercise and fighting hurts, and virtual females are attractive.

I don't like WoW a lot and my answer is yes.  This is one of the best times to start if you are starting fresh.  The new azeroth is fun and the quests are engaging.

The game is better for new players when it comes to solo content. There is so much content in the game it might just blow your mind. Right now its perfect for a new player and horrible for a long time player who keeps having to watch the content get easier and easier although Cataclysm has changed it up just a bit for the PuG, but still easier for a guild group/raid.

Grouping on the other hand may be a disaster because pick up grroups have gotten so out of hand being full of players that want blizzard to hand them shiny toys for standing around dying to stupid stuff.

The simple answer to your question is yes the game should feel pretty incredible to new players.

Game is AMAZING, especially if you are a new player taking your first steps. For some people like me no fresh coat of paint can freshin up the game, but after 5 years of playing something I easily got my $15 a month from it. Enjoy it, it's a really really fun quest game.
