hi i played lienage 2 for a while and i am still playn. i started anarchy online which is fabolouse since there are infinite items, levels and skills..... really amazing game and i wanted to start guild wars next year.
i think the things that do speak for it is:
no camping (no random pking)
no fee
lots of quests ( i like quests )
things against it:
i really like getting better etc i think that is one of the main aspecta of every game. every mmorgp should contain this collecting xp and item addiction
so now:
20 lvls!!! that sounds too scray for me (really scary)
i dont really know about items but i heard there is no crafting system (SCARY...vary scary)
i heard u can start a pvp chara which has already lvl 20 (EXTREMELY SCARY)
i really like the game from what i saw but these ar major points for me (only my opinion and no i am not 14 years old and i am not a wow player ) and it seems they are not really covered by guild wars
i love the idea of conquering land etc but these are the most important points for me so plz be precise
thx a lot guys

In regards to crafting, there isn't a crafting system in which the player can be a crafter. There are crafter NPCs who display a list of say armor/items you are able to use -- it displays the cost in gold and the materials/resources needed. For example, it might cost 150 gold, 8 bolts of cloth, and 4 scales for something. When you have all the materials, you hand them over and receive the item. Then there is a crafter NPC who can enhance your weapons, like for example, he might add +10% damage to a weapon. It costs a trivial amount of gold.
I haven't ventured to other cities out from Old Ascalon/Ascalon and past 10 on either character, so I'm not sure how much it changes later.
The materials/resources can be found adventuring, some bought off a merchant, and of course from other players.
Then there are 'components' which can be found through scavenging and added to weapons to make them better. I'm still not 100% on how that works yet.
In regards going directly to level 20 as a PvP character, that is true, but how I understand it, they're limited in what they can do. For one, they don't have access to all the skills in their profession. There are skills which have to be unlocked through quests before they can be used. If I understand it correctly, once you have played through the Fantasy aspect and unlocked for example Ranger skills, then your account will have those skills available for the PvP characters (who have Ranger as a profession). If I misunderstood how it works, then hopefully someone will correct me.
I receantly have been getting incredibly bored with the mmo's i am playing now and am also considering guildwars. The thing about being level 20 they will come out with new expansions every 6 - 9 months and will most likely raise the level.
When making a character you have two options making a roleplaying only character - doing qsts and leveling up or PvP only character and start at level 20. So realy there is no big issue involved in this.
As for crafting idk
Also after reading the reviews on the gamethe only major thing it is lacking seems to be Roleplaying. I am a roleplayer sometimes, No matter im gunna get this one
Lvl 20 cap Pffft...you still attain skill ponts from doing quests even after level 20 and that is just what it is a tag. the skill points allow you to make your primary skills more potent. I just "leveled" past 20 and received my additional skill point so my offensive fire skills do more damage.
Automatic access to level 20 in Pvp. You start your chars with basic skills in order to start playing in PvP the actually PvE allows you to unlock Runes, Weapon/Item upgrades and Elite skills that you can use in PvE to make your builds more potent, in otherwords, If you soley did PvP w/o playing the PvE element you would be at an extreme disadvantage to the PvEer because he would have unlocked the Uber item upgrades and skills ONLY found doing the PvE portion of GW not to mention the awesome story and quests involved to make it the game that it is.
If these are concerns that you have with Guild Wars, you definitely WON'T enjoy this game.
This is really an action game, not an RPG game. If you want leveling in a game, there is NO real purpose to leveling in GW. Its just there because they wanted to call the game an RPG.
As for items. Since its a PvP action game, ArenaNet has not allowed for the development or creation of "powerful" or truly "unique" items because that would imbalance PvP play. So, in the long run, most people will have weapons and armor identical or at least very similar in practical use. There is a little crafting in the game, but its more just implemented to feel like you're crafting than having any longterm implication (in a month, most players will have crafted the same stuff).
As for the instant level 20s... yes, that is a problem for many roleplayers. After a month or so, when people have unlocked most of the skills and items, they can make instant level 20 characters for PvP whenever they want. This will totally ruin any unique or special attachment players will have with their roleplayed characters. In MMORPGs, if you allowed this, it would be called cheating and players would be banned for doing this. In GW... its called, "tending to the needs of the PvP community."
Oh, and as for PvP, there is "point" to it, except for watching your stats on a ladder. You don't conquer lands or anything like that. Its more like counter-strike... join a team, fight each other, one team wins, rinse and repeat. The only thing is, counter-strike requires significantly more skill and strategy than GW.
Once again you post no validity to your statements and everything you are saying is generalized...It sounds as if you have never even played PvP and coming from an "Alpha-tester" I would have expected more on why PvP is so "Action" oriented but instead make "Troll" statements bashing the game. You would lend more credibility to your spew if you backed it up with some concrete facts instead of something anyone could make a statement on. It has a "standard" PvP portion only truly made better by unlocking weapon/rune upgrades and finding elite skils furthering the diversity of each character you create.
Let's see you've referred to it as an action game in this post, not quite an MMORPG all the way to an RPG with a linear story....so which one is it..?..you sound like a confused man to me.....
I love it. It's like a breath of fresh air compared to every other mmorpg out there right now. At least the ones I've played (EQ,EQII,SWG,WOW,CoH,AO). This is more like dungeon seige meets diablo II, modernized, turned into mmo, and made lots of fun. You feel a real sense of accomplishment when going through the PvE game.
Coop quests are a ton of fun. The real key is getting together with a group of friends and running missions together. The game really is alot more fun with friends than solo using Henchmen. I get seroisly stoked when a friend finds an item that is not only an upgrade for him, but also unlocks some pvp items. Tons of fun.
No monthly fee makes me feel like I don't "HAVE" to play it to get my money's worth. I don't have alot of time to play and power game like I used to, so this fits just right. 10/10 for me.
Nice one fanboy.
Just goes to show you that you can twist anyone's words to make them sound how you wish.
Listen, if you're having so much fun with the game, don't push someone who is SO OBVIOUSLY looking for an experience that GW definitely WON'T give them to waste their money on the game. You've wasted both your time and money on it... don't be selfish and convince others to do the same.
The poster is obviously looking for an MMORPG with leveling, crafting, and PvP that results in conquering of territories. You know as well as I do that GW DOESN'T OFFER ANY OF THAT... so get off your high horse.
And for someone who shows absolutely NO VALIDITY in their own statements, its quite hypocritical of you to continuously accuse another for doing so in the hopes of disreputing their statements. I'm not here to prove anything to you, and so I'm not going to waste my time. Get it?
I'm answering the poster, not you.
Listen bendortiker, this is precisely why this game is so overhyped. It gives casual players the feeling that they are on level ground with skilled players (which in itself, disreputes any notion that the game is based on skill).
Now, I'm not a fan of paying monthly fees for games either... but what most people don't realize is that ArenaNet is going to get their money one way or another. They have reserved the right to implement monthly fees (read the agreement that comes with your game) AND they plan on releasing expansions every 6 months. Yes, this will be cheaper than most MMORPGs... but, GW offers far less content than most MMORPGs. Plus, their game design makes their server costs cheaper.
Of course, this hasn't stopped the bandwagon from breaking loose however. Great marketing I must say.
Not on a high horse here just trying to make sense of the confusion you've conjured and not being able to decide if it's an RPG or an ACTION game which is abundantly apparent in the spew of confusion you've mustered. Besides your evidently barking up the wrong tree trying to turn prospective Guild War interests away with elusive confusion mired in your apparent misunderstanding doesn't make what your saying credible.
So why don't you take your other little RPGs you've obviously clung onto for dear life little troll....now that there is obviously a much better one here and can't seem to comprehend. Casting your little "but....but...I was an Alpha Tester" spell on the unconvinced masses is futile here. Get a life go haunt some other place.
I'm beginning to wonder if you're just nothing more than a disgruntled alpha tester who has a chip on his shoulder for some reason or another.
Oooh, what version of CS is that? CS 1337?
Because right now, CS barely requires any strategy beyond saying: you camp here, you camp there, GGs! (which is most definitely far less than GW).
And in terms of skill, this is all CS requires of a professional level player: aim, target prioritzing & teamplay.
GW requires: targetting skill/target prioritzing, movement skill (dodging), correct timing of spells, teamplay, timing combinations with fellow players in your party.
First you say GW is totally not skillbased (in your thread) and then you say CS does require skill here, now that is laughable.
As for the OP's questions:
You might be better of with a regular MMORPG.
There are indeed only 20 levels, which has been done because they wanted to keep PvP fair and easy to reach - there's still plenty to do after you reach level 20, but most of it probaply wont be endless PvE grinding like in Lineage.
Yes you can start a PvP character which is automatically level 20 - but you'll have to unlock skills/runes/weapon upgrades with regular characters before you can use them with PvP characters.
So if you were to make a PvP character straight away that is not a template character - you wouldnt be able to choose any skills at all.
As for crafting, you can only craft armor at NPC's - there are a few different sets that require some different items to be made - but that's about it. You can upgrade armor with runes as well (e.g.: a rune of minor vigor for increased max. health) or weapons with weapon upgrades (e.g.: a firey sword pommel, which makes your sword do fire damage instead of physical).
Both Runes and Upgrades are salvaged out of rare salvage items or weaponry with something called a salvage kit (which you also use to gather crafting materials).
You can't conquer land in Guild Wars.
LOL!
gogo rush around the corner
give headshots
ye 1 2 3 4 5 headshots
see thru smoke
got a bad engine and netcode yeye
You are out of your mind. Go back to counterstrike. Tactics for the simple minded.

1) Anet won't put monthly fees in the game. They promised us more than often.
2) "NO real purpose to leveling" so you like unfair matches, bashing people 2-5 lvl below you. Lame ganker.
3) "unique or special attachments" are unbalanced. You like it unbalanced huh? It's more importent that you fit in your teambuild. I understand when your Ranger/Warrior had no luck in PvP.
But you may wanna try out playing different roles in a PvP Team, it would be a pain in the arse if you have to spend a few weeks before you can go into battle with a character. The prebuild system which requires you to unlock your stuff is just perfect. Also its nice to try out the classes before you might waste your time playing something you dont like personally in the end, or would have been working out better with another Secondary/Primary.
The PvP Chars are NOT a problem for role-players, because you _CANT_ play ANY PvE mission. _PVP ONLY_. Whats the problem?
AGAIN: ITS NOT A MMO, STOP COMPARING IT TO IT AND GO PLAY ONE.
The self-called "Hardcore PvP Players" in the alpha community still whine about that you have to play PvE before you can go with the best gear/runes/weapons into PvP. They would love to enter the battle with the best equipment and all skills instandly. Thats even worse than your opinion, and i see clearly the problem to satisfy the PvE and PvP player community.
The current system goes towards both player groups, and doesnt spoil the experience for both kind of players. IMO.
lala
hello and thx for ur posts guys.
bolli i dont understand why u gt so angry. everything u posted (most of it) is emotional and reasoning. it is a metter of opinion. why dont we all calm down. i am glad that at least both sides (pro and contra) posted facts in the end. i see that the crafting system doesnt please me and also the leveling doesnt at all. i am sry but this is just not the kind of game. and bolli about what u said of inequality and leveling:
mmorgp are based on that. so simple. mmorpgs (most of them) are games for people that decide to spend a lot of time playing computer games because it is fun for them and otherwise they would not pay money. when you play more then you SHOULD get more benefir and advantages. competition is everything. what you say sounds that there are only a few high charas in each game and they go around and kill everyone. that is not the case. there are games where pking happens very often but everyone who plays a game tries to get as good as possible. and normally when people do pvp (not pk) then you look for someone who is ur level and u always try to fight against the best. so its up to u to decide whether to join the pvp or not.
it is the same with more games: the more u play the better u get. mmorg are desined not only that u get better in tactical thining and equip choice but u get also ur basic skills etc pushed up by simply spending time to play. that is in most (not all i dont want to hear any critizism in the next thread because i used the word MOST (i find it scary to post in this forrum since evryone seems to try to find any mistakes in the opponents post)) games the case that this benefiting from playing satisfies the player. what keeps u playing is the idea of getting better and better and getting more and more.
simply said: mmorgs try to satisfy basic human guts and wants (power, control, fame etc...) thats my opinion
there are also games which do satisfy other need for example the role playing aspect (nice story and long quests) but that was simply not the game i was looking for. i was looking for a game which satisfies my human selfish desires and which makes me addicted again (like diablo 2 )
(plz dont make any verbal attacks like: u have no life etc its nor true anyway just my opinion plz dont freak out)
by the way guys calm down in the forum.....
ahahaha.. you people make me laugh... =D
Heres one word, a game is not designed to satisfy gamers of all kinds. In my opinion, GW is the best mmo i've played out there, WoW players thinks WoW is the best and the same goes to EQ and Lineage. But then again, there are plenty of official reviews and ratings which will help you decide to play the game or not. Opinions are accepted, but facts are more accepted.
