Hello,
I have been following Eve Online for some time and think it may be a good game for me to play because i mainly play WoW and GW online. The complete change of universe will be a welcome refreshment.
Which brings me to my actual question, for more than 20 years i have been searching for a game
that could give me the same feeling as Elite did on my C64 but with todays technology and online.
So i ask you -seasoned- players to give me an honest reply :-)
thx in advance!

Well if your happy with traditional fantasy mmorpgs then eve will be a giant punch in the face!
It's totally different from any mmorpg out there and it does it well!
If you want change then go to eve, but be warned it has a heavy learning curve and will take months to get into
Yes Elite was a fantastic game, I was a bit young for it at its first release but I fell head over heals in love with Frontier.
When playing Frontier I often had this feeling "This is so cool, I just wish I could play with/against my mates though" so when I first found out about EVE in 2001 (the game was still in closed Alpha but even then it had a very active community) I felt all my dreams had come true.
The game itself is staggeringly huge and complex, there really is so much to do it takes you breath away. In fact it can be daunting at times even for a veteran like myself so I dread to think what it would be like for somebody just starting out. I hope that doesn't scare you though, just don't expect to be able to do it all within a few weeks. EVE is big
Thats not to say its a prefect game though, there are still many areas which require improvement but as new content is put into the game at regular intervals there is always more to do. As in any game new content could really be delivered a bit quicker but its hard to fault this as all the expansions are free.
In conclusion let me say that I have been part of the community and playing the game now for 4 years now and while there are a great many very good games out there, EVE is the only one to engross me to such a level. More than even frontier managed. I cant tell you if EVE will be the game for you but it is certainly the game for me.
I'm glad you ask this question.
Let me tell you about my getting into Eve. A few months ago, I started playing Anarchy because I wanted to try a MMO game. It was ok, not great. And then I thought, "well, what I'd really like is having my Elite/Frontier fun again, god that game was great, I wonder if there's anything like it around". I found Frontier again, but too dated. Played Freelancer for a while, not enough liberty. Then found Eve and thought "ok, let's try that".
My own perception is that Eve is every bit was Frontier used to be, and more. Same freedom. Same spirit of "you don't really progress based on the number of ships you destroy, but rather on your increasing knowledge of the good equipment, good missions and trade routes".
The community is amazingly friendly and helpful. The devs are often criticized, but they are doing a great job overall in my sense. The game is evolving, gaining players every month as the game gets more complex and the dev modifications keep the pace.
The most impressive thing above all is that a lot of things (positive or negative) are driven by the players mainly or only: market for some T2 components, piracy, construction, etc.
So, I encourage you to try !
i started playing eve because a friend mentioned it to me as being a "multiplayer elite". still playing after 1 1/2 years. i think eve really shines for people who want to set their own goals and who understand the player competitive base approach the game takes.
