I haven't played an MMO for the last year because of IRL reasons. But now I got some spare time and I am trying to decide which one to play.

I'm really looking forward to GW 2 but I want to play something now.

The games I am torn between atm are Darkfall, Fallen Earth, and EQext.

I really have some fond memories of Darkfall. Had to guit tho as it was a huge timesink even for an MMO. How is it these days? It had some horrible issues when I left it. Does it have a healthy playerbase?

Fallen Earth I read they made  some huge changes anyone know if its worht it?

EQext is the meh choice but its free so who can complain?

Anyways I am open to any suggestions/advice since its been a long time since I played an MMO and don't even know whats good these days.

Did you consider Guild Wars, perhaps?

Darkfall - they have added offline skilling, but from what is in the official forums it is just another, different grind.

The player base seems stable, I have subbed and resubbed 3 or 4 times and population was always present, but small. Probably the same as when you played. Had a fun big player made racial war a little bit ago, hundred plus people from what I could see being there on the ground. (but ya, compared to say, warhammer there are fights that size every night).

Fallen Earth, you should really check out if you never have. It was a solid game. I played for many months and definitely got my $ worth. I left mostly because I could never get a group together, even in an active clan. They have made big changes to make group missions actually need a group, so maybe that will change. I haven't played recently, but consensus seems to be that combat has been improved. I am planning to sub for a month this week to re-check it out. Combat was always sweet in my opinion, writing is excellent, I just don't play a solo game online per se.

Haven't played EQ for years so my opinion would be useless.

Actually I did try FE. Combat was cool I agree and the setting was nice too. Never got too far, had to quit because of RL, but also because it had lots of issues. Grouping was one of the biggest issues I agree. Its stupid to play a solo MMO.

I am dling the free trial as we speak. I have somewhat high hopes since I remember that the devs were eager and active and tried to listen to the community.

Guess DFO will have to wait. Its a relief really.  This game scares the shit out of me :P

I guess your RL reason will also ease you form playing again, my freind is playing atlantica online and it never affects his study and work, he can do play and work at the same time due to auto battle and auto move function so no need to download any bot programs.
