In the final Star Wars Galaxies producer's letter for 2010, Tony "Teesquared" Tyson talks about some of the bigger news of the year, not the least of which is the Witches of Dathomir update that is now live. In addition, Tyson talks a bit about the plans for the upcoming year.
And we'll give you MORE =]. The long awaited Officer update will be coming out early next year. Hjal has already started discussion with the Officer Senator and the work has begun. The Galactic Civil War 2 update is also first on the list for next year. As mentioned before, this update will have a focus on space and player cities. We will also be adding more ways to discover Rare Loot System chests that don't involve combat.
The dev team likes to give out surprises. Every once in a while we find surprises too. We discovered some, what we believe to be, "never before released" structures in our game. Well we'll be giving these to you next year as well.

This is great news! I just started playing again and good to hear they are bumping up the GCW more.
Sorry " bro' " , but the SWG i knew is dead to me , and no patch will ever fix what they did to a great game, i might, and i mean that, just give it a chance along with the what , other 250.000 bitter vets give it a chance if we get our sandbox game back.
List of SOE lies
They must be really getting desperate to increase thier subscriber base again. LOL. They always do this at end of year to increase thier sales looking for more gulliable fools to buy thier games and sign up.
.... somhow I am having a hard time careing what SOE has to offer as far as SWG goes... the NGE, and the CURB killed it for me.
If they decided that they are bringing back a server or two with the SWG original release I may consider coming back... but most likey not.
Doesn't sound all that exciting to me, maybe the GCW update but everything else seems kind of meh.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
I don't know if I'd call it desperate. Desperation would actually mean they're trying. This producers note seems more like they're just trying to throw some sort of bone to the players, in the form of speculative information... not actual content.
"Content... yes, right, we're looking into it, that's on our list..."
I missed the "for 2010" and went "Surprised it took this long..." before I noticed it.
Shadus
I have to agree, just humors me that these overly jaded posters still whine about something that happned like 5 years ago.
This.
You mean you and the 250k vets that behaved like bratty children, and swore they would never touch it again/never play anything related to anyone related to the game at all? those vets? ya im sure SOE would give a crap about pandering to that market.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
LOL, it must be the millionth comment about SWG starting with "They must be really getting desperate..." - give up, haters: SWG will only go down when it goes down.
I cant believe the game is still going. Of the hundreds of ppl I used to know online not one was still active when I quit in '06.
Yes, because you and all the "ppl" you know comprise almost all of the community of SWG.
For the current swg players: /tiphat
For the vets out there: /bow4
Such a shame, this once beautiful game.
I /tiphat to you as well!
They make a producer's note like that every month for their players. You have to ask MMORPG.com why they chose to put this one up on this site. So you assumed wrong.
The loss of the sandbox didn't annoy me, I prefer story-driven games. But the loss of character flexibility did. And when the devs stopped listening to player requests and just did what they thought was a good idea, then I got pissed and left. I've never found an MMO I've enjoyed as much, but I never want to play SWG again after what was done to it.
As a "Vet" recently come back, with the exception of 1-3 servers, the game is a wasteland in terms of player population.
There are no more then a few thousand people playing this game, this includes the Station Pass players.
Lower Pop servers, at best, have a couple hundred folks "actively" playing.
this might be their response to the upcoming swtor, lets facee it the wow fans that are playing swg now will certainly swap over to swtor.. its cartoony its themepark and the game plays its self, what more could they ask for.
its wow in space lol.
Us "bratty Children" as you put it are the ones that gave SOE the money and time of day for years before they decided to cater for you simplistic people. We're the ones that filled the servers because we enjoyed a game that was different to the other garbage being thrown about, We're the ones who ..... oh forget it, whats the point of trying to reason with simple people such as yourself who didn't go through what we did or pay the amounts we did on sub fees for a "super burger" only to have the meat taken away from us.
People like you should remember one thing about us vets, WE were the ones who populated all the servers which they had to close and consolidate when we left.. We're bitter over what happened because of how it happened not only because of the changes. one day i hope they do the same to you and then you'll be just as bitter.
its not WoW in space... if you've been following SW:TOR at all you'd know that the only 'space' in SW:TOR is a single player tunnel shooter that probably would run equally well in a browser window.... but your other comments probably stand uncorrected
SWG ... surprisingly (to me at least) i've been subbed to the game for the last 3 months - i only intended to sub for a month to check it out.. guess i got carried away.. but, there are only a few really active servers now, fortunately they really are 'very' active, i don't know what the numbers are, but, i would at a guess say they are sufficient to keep the game running for the moment, if SW:TOR really does start taking players though, that might change.. i have spoken to quite a few people in game, and although they did say they would be getting SW:TOR, they didnt say that they'd stop playing SWG... see how it goes i guess.. as SW:TOR might still be another 6 months or so before its released - the march 2011 release date seems to have been a bit premature the release date does seem to have a habit of 'slipping' after all
The game does not play itself. Not sure where your getting that from. If you take a look at any of the combat videos you will see that.
It is theme park, much like oh i don't know 3/4 of the games out there. Not a bad thing really.
If ToR gets half the sub numbers that WoW has then they will be doing just fine.
As for the Wow in space.
Wow does not have a cover system that i'm aware of.
WoW quest do not change based on what you do.
WoW does not have you slaying 10 enemies by yourself.
WoW does not have choreographed moves.
I will grant you, it has quests, it has fighting with monsters, however we need to drop the WoW in space. It's getting old. It's a theme park MMO in the star wars universe.
Okay i'm done. Just really if your going to make a broad statement like that. Please read the information first.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
truthfully, I am one of those "jaded vets": they (SOE) ruined the uniqueness of SWG for me (with the axe of the open skill tree system), they killed Vanguard through non support so that it wouldn't compete with EQ2, and have took every advantage to cash grab.
I despise SOE
That being said, we as Vets need to just stop posting here. Let those that like the game, however cruddy we may think it has become, enjoy the game. We ren't going to change thier minds; they like it. All we are doing is stressing them and ourselves.
I won't play another SOE game for what they did to SWG and VG but that doesn't mean other people shouldn't. And sure people might think it is childish that I wont and thats thier oppinion.
The reason I wont support SOE isn't thought that they "ruined" a game I like; it is from the bait and switch they pulled at the start of NGE (releasing ToOW on Tuesday and then making it obsolete, and removing 50% of it's content on Wednesday). I beleive that is bad business.
But seriously move on to other games, real life, whatever. Just leave these newbies (not perjorative) alone.
Yes because bioware is not well know for putting out games with AMAZING plot lines that keep you play them over and over again. (if you cared that much about great graphics why are you playing SWG?)
SWG RIP, sad to say the game I took home in the box and play and loved, was destroyed, now this is not a complaint they had the legal right to change a game to the point that it was a TOTALLY diffrent game, but its kind of a slap to gamers that payed hard earned cash to play one thing and got another, kind of like ordering pizza and liver and green eggs arrive, would make me a tad mad, oh well its there sub figures that suffered.
I am also on of those "jaded" vets and I couldn't agree more. Bury the poor horse already and move on. I mean, it really sucks what they did to the game but I am beyond sick of hearing about it already. Let those who enjoy the "new" game enjoy the "new" game and stop trying to ruin it for them by constantly jacking their threads. They obviously don't care what the game was so for christ's sake let them enjoy their game.
I feel sorry for anyone that buys card sets for a MMO. That is just plain sad. As to SWG, they can try to market changes all they want, but the small team they have supporting this game won't change the game, except superficially at best.
SOE would be far better just to pull the plug on this game.
