The end of the 10 day trial, resubbing, and leaving for a 2nd time.

The 10 trial ends and I found myself resubbing, only to be awakened by the true state of the game.

Total recap from my 10 day trial.  I played roughly 30 hours total, I leveled from 35-40, made about  12 mil kinah (spend 10), and had 4 gold drops.  The solo instance from 37-44 isnt that bad.  Was pretty fun the first 3 times I did it.  Had a good amount of green/blue drops.  Upgraded all my gear.  Did a little pvp in the beginning but didn’t look too hard for it in the end.  Was ganked 3 times total.  Didn’t participate in any sieges.  We randomly added to a guild that had around 2-5 players on at any given time.  Used the LFG system a couple times and got a semi-functioning group, once.  I died a few times and the money penalty for dying was not that bad.  Overall, I think I accomplished a lot for playing casually and mostly solo.  I think had I been with the large guild I started with a year ago, I could have gotten a lot more done and participated more in pvp events.

Based on the 10-day trial, I decided to resub, then reality settled in.  Upon resubbing, I went to go do the solo instanced.  Couple things I noticed.  One, the experience I was gaining dropped by 50%.  My own fault really for forgetting that the 10 day time period was double xp.  The other is the crafting system.  After getting my nice gold drop from the solo instance, I started to upgrade my orb.  I spent 6 mil kinah (which I guess isn’t that much in the grand scheme of the game) on upgrading my orb, only to have my final manastone fail, destroying all my work.  I even used the full amount of upgrade powder that could be used, per upgrade.  It was at this point that I realized this game is not for me.  I really can’t afford to put a lot of time and money into something, only to have everything get undone.  I just don’t have the time.

I truly love the game mechanics of Aion.  I think the sorc has the best utility of any mage class I have played in any MMO.  The flying mechanic  of Aion adds a great element and new dimension to pvping.  Fort sieges are fun and I probably would have gotten a lot out of them had I tried to play more of them.  I just don’t have the energy to try and participate.  Hate to say it, but I need a system that allows me to pvp whenever I want and Aion just doesn’t have that.  If I was back in college and had more time to devout to the game, I would probably stay but at this stage, I need a game geared towards the casual gamer.

I cancelled my sub only 3 days after resubbing.  I think Aion is a great game, but it just isnt in a place where a casual gamer can survive.  Its definely different from a year ago.  The "westerernization" had made the game bareable for most now, I just need it to go 1 more step in that direction for me to be able to play again.

Just consider you're self lucky that you didn't make it to 50 and start grinding on you're miragent leggings..

AION is still my favorite MMORPG of all time.. But there are a few select mechanics that just ruin the WHOLE experience for myself.. Crafting is defiantly one of them.. Crafting wasn't so bad when i was useing it to to craft food and stuff, but when you spend a month grinding bloodstains and around 30mil kinah you've been saveing up since the beggning of the game only to get nothing for you're leggings 6 times in a row.. You'll end up hateing a MMORPG too.

Honestly, with all the changes NC Soft has done to the game they still havn't finished "westernizeing" it's crafting system and other mechanics.

With the expection of the Mirgent set, NCsoft has done an over haul on the crafting. Meaning all the mats drop like crazy so crafting is way easier and the bundle system makes it even better. The fact that is harder to make good items and that they are better than gold drops (which drop mega easy) gives them value. In most other games crafting is pretty moot besides alchemy. I agree that the mirgent crafting is obsurd but thats a very small piece of the game. All that aside its not necessary to craft gear when the droprate is on par with WOW now. Even in WOW crafted items don't hold a candle to tier gear. So what do you want?  Its sad that Western gamers need every thing to be easy to obtain with no risk. Where challenge with no risk?

Not really sure what the success rates are in crafting to be honest.  Maybe I had a 75% chance of succeeding on my final manastone and got unlucky.  Point is, I spent a precious x hours and had it all wasted.  I do agree with the drop rates, they are VERY high.  I played for 10 days and got 3 times as many mat drops as I did in the first 2 months total. I cant imagine doing the 50+ gear grind if what ya'll are saying is true.  I much prefer a points system that allows me to build points up to purchase my gear (like wow).  Some may call it "carebear", I call it "casual".  I just dont have the time to be hardcore any more.

You are confusing time consuming activities with challenge. If a person can afford to spend 12 hours a day in front of pc the element of challenge and risk is eliminated for him. It only exists for people like OP who have  a real life outside AION.

Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

Anything worth having is not easily obtained. If the OP really wants something they could work on it in segments and its doesn't have to feel like a job.  Where is the worth if everyone just creates epics every 5 minutes? Sadly MMO's have proven to envelope more of our time than other games but you should realize this before diving in.  I personally don;t have a lot of time to devout to gaming as well so I skip the crafting and work on dungeons for my gear. There are ways to enjoy the game and not create work for yourself if you chose.
