    Both are very different games.

Im a big fan of of CCP and that studios ability to triumph over AAA titles in the same market with a more dynamic and organic game-play environment.

For me it’s about what form of entertainment compliments Massively-Multiplayer game-play through dynamic and organic community cooperative and competitive game-play environments, while walking a tight-rope of balance, as opposed to scripted story PvE-centric static game-play.

For that appreciation, it is why I believe I will appreciate Rift more.  I believe Rift will offer more Massively-Multiplayer community cooperative and competitive-centric player-involved and influenced game-play.  Pushing the player-base to the fore-front of the story-arch as opposed to mobs.

Community camaraderie, motivation of good vs evil in a dynamic environment with risk/reward without entitlements is the purpose and main elements I’m motivated by; it is player-centric achievement against the back-drop of player-centric surprise, suspense and uncertainty. To me, it is more rewarding than playing within what might be perceived as an overly-glorified single-player environments against computer coded mobs with leashes, indifferent attitudes aggression and personality; mundane to me.  Dont get me wrong; Rift isn't going to be Darkfall, but it isnt going to be the PvE centricity of WoW or WAR either.

When I think about the readings and experiences I’ve had with DCU and Rift, I get the sense that Trion is more serious about weaving more dynamic and organic, unique engaging environments that are influenced by community involvement with features and greater breadth and depth of character development, more open and epic environments while expanding the range of player engagements and cooperativeness of game-play for players.

But that’s just me, knowing that Rift will have its fair share of PvE centricity as well, as said, but perhaps a better balance of pvevp.

Having played both in beta, I will and still am playing DCUO. To me Rift isn't my cup of tee. Felt like WoW 4 years ago, while DCUO combat is new and fun.

Rift hands down. i already cancled my DCUO and would have rift on pre order if i could. I was in the Real DCUO beta not the one pre orders got and i can say a lot has not changed with SOE and ignoring  players feedback. I would not play DCUO if you payed me to.

Really? Not listening? They just put out a HUGE patch. It took three posts for someone to fit everything they fixed in one thread.

Neither, but if I had to make a choice it would be DCUO. Rift is an extremley boring game. Cancelled my pre order as fast as humanly possible. Too bad to, I was hoping it would be the one. Glad I got to play the shit out of it before it was too late.

And even with the patch they just implemented there's not much there that invalidates what Idbloodraven said.  Most of the patch was polish and didn't really have a lot to do with player feedback.  After some intense beta testing I have to say that DCUO is a pass for me.  The game does some things pretty well but in the end it just feels really shallow.  I'm getting the same feeling from DCUO that I got from All Points Bulletin.  There are a couple of cool features but if you open up the box there's nothing inside.  Also, no crafting is an epic fail.  In the end this is an okay console game and will be a niche if not epic fail of a PC game.  SOE kills another.  /rant

I think they are both good games and well done so far, but Rift is the game I am waiting on (along with Earthrise)

Mostly because I prefer the fantasy setting over the super hero setting. And the features in Rift, I am liking alot.

Definitely Rift. It may be like WoW in terms of gameplay as other people in this thread have said, but I honestly can't see myself playing a superhero in DCUO. Also I'm not sure how long DC is going to be cool to people; I'd think playing a superhero might get old after a short burst of time. (not bashing, just my opinion!)

I've kinda burned out on level/gear based themeparks so I will most likely pass on both. Hopefully by this time next year we have more info on WoD so I have something to look forward to.

Neither. Both sound like more of the same old boring junk. Fun for 5 minutes, then gets old quick.

The only similarity Rift has to WoW is that its an MMO. Thats it.

If having quest, and auto attack and Elves makes a game like WoW, then it is equally similar to EQ2, DAoC, Vanguard, and so on...

DCUO is missing everything that Champions/CoX got right, and they are missing everything that DCUO got right.  It's a pretty irritating situation altogether.

My main issue w/ DCUO is it has absolutely no replay value.  All the weapons basically slightly different variations of the same thing, and most of the powersets (the very few of them that there are) have multiple talents that emulate the same effects but just have a different theme.

Add on top of that the terribly limited customization (compared to its competitors) in nearly every faucet of the game, the genuine lack of content that makes you use multiple mentors, and a hero combat system that is more about weapons than powers... and its not worth the price of admission.

Its all depends on their release dates. If DCUO is 2 or 3 months ahead of rift then i will get DCUO just play for fun for a month or 2 and then get RIFT. If not I probally will get RIFT since some of my friends will be likely to get RIft. Need some solid release dates for these 2 games.

I will definitely drop either or both games and get SWTOR though. That is a must buy for me and like all my friends I been playing MMOs with for years. But I always like a fall back game that i can go back to if i get bored with the SWTOR  and RIFT and DCUO will be it. I think with DCUO I can stop playing for months and resubscribe and just have fun with the play style. Rift will be my serious fantasy MMORPG to fall back on if SWTOR gets boring after months of play.

Ahhh I probably shouldn't have said that! I love the game, I had just noticed multiple posts in this thread saying it is similar to WoW, and that was a reason they aren't going to play it. I think it's different than wow other than... the ui, action bar... pretty much it. Was totally not uh.. I don't even know I just shouldn't have said that lol. Everything is the same in a way, I don't see why people put this game down since it is apparently similar. IMO there's only a few ways of having combat, either like WoW/Rift/similar games, turn-based, or real-time like vindictus, etc. I prefer the first :P

    And I love the elves in Rift for some reason... much better/cooler than WoW's |:}

Edit: and by "everything is the same in a way", I mean mmorpg's having similarities

DCUO because it is not the same old song and dance mmo. I'm sure Rift will be good but I did simple mmos already.

My quoting you was mostly for those folks you mentioned claiming its to much like WoW. And yeah, this may be the first game where the Elves actually look cool.

Wait, is this a trick question?  Because the obvious answer is "neither".  Is there some reason why that answer is wrong?

My plan is that when I decide that I've had enough of Champions Online, I'll pick up Uncharted Waters Online.  After that, Guild Wars 2.  After that, it will likely be somewhere around 2013, and games that I haven't yet heard of will be out.  Maybe FFXIV will even be kind of fixed by then.

I have played in rift beta's 2 times and I can tell you this much already. I have much to learn and no idea where the game will take me. Compare it other games? Well that would be like comparing a new born baby to teenager or even an adult. yes they all have the same basic make up, (quest, rewards, instances ect) but who knows where life will take them? Or in this case a game.

I can not compare a game that has been out for many years and gone through its ups and downs, expansions and many changes during that time to a game that is in limited beta.

All games are going to have some simular characteristics of course but it is where it leads us and what happens when we arrive that will tell us what we really want to know.

I can not more brand a new born a loser because he has the same hair color and  baby x had and we all know baby x was a loser nor can I compare a game that is not even released to games that have evolved and changed many times through out the years.

Stay tuned as the world of rift evolves and unfolds.

I've BETA'd both (been in both of Rift's closed BETA's) and DCUO's semi-closed, and I hate to say it, but I won't be playing either.

I REALLY wanted to like both of these games... I am SO SO disappointed, especially with DCUO; what absolute garbage.  If I did have to chose, I'd take Rift's.  Unfortunately I can't say anything cuz we're still under NDA.  As far as DCUO, I've already stated my reasons in other threads as to why it's so sub-par for what it should be in this market (and as much dev time as it's had).

I like both games, and have reasons why I like them both, though I can only go into the reasons on one of those games at this time.   DCUO will be on my to-purchase list.  It is the only game worth PvPing in.

The latest patch (todays) added player bounties, and open world rewards,  they revamped the menu system and changed a lot of the power sets around and made it tougher to earn skill points.  PvE difficulty has been shot through the roof too making it ideal for groups now.  The combat is above anything I've played in an MMO with an open world and requires skill.  I will be buying this game and playing on the PvP server with a number of others I've met from my league and from PUGs.

The chances of me buying RIFT on release are 50/50,  again, not going into details right now but it does offer a different playstyle that I like.

I'll take neither for 500 Alex.

Tested both and will be subscribing to neither.

DCUO is fairly fun and is a nice change of pace as a true action-MMO. Reaching max level happens far too quickly, however, and it failed to hold my interest at end-game.

Rifts is about as generic as a fantasy MMO can get. Very paint-by-numbers.
