How many of you only have 1 account?

Are there any serious players who DONT have multiple accounts?

I always hear ppl saying, "the risk is what makes it fun" but they are usually the ones with multiple accounts, 1 for "serious" things and multiple carebear alts, for mining in high sec, for operating multiple labs and factories, etc etc.

I think it was Ranma in here the other day saying he got camped in empire, and yall replied that he should have called his corp. But most pvp corps out there have this policy like "we want independent players who don't need us to hold their hand." I know for a fact that the majority of corps out there, if you tell them you're getting camped somewhere, the answer is gonna be, sorry son we're busy, why don't you login right after reboot and sneak over to us.

That's the part about the game I hate, is the hypocracy by the playerbase, who on the one hand hate "carebearism" yet on the other hand every single one has at least a carebear alt to play in case they get camped for hours. You can't just play 1 character, you need a second and possibly even a third to fully participate in the game the way it's meant to be played.

So what I'm asking is, where is YOUR risk. You die, you logout, jump to carebear alts who are usually sitting in empire pumping out ships, and strip-mining scord in their large barges, or win the "BPO lotto" with your science alt, and funnel that money back to your main so you can be part of the "pvp drama."

Unless you're willing to shell out $30/mo don't even bother. Back many months ago you used to be able to acquire skillpoints on all 3 characters, so you could really play on 1 account, many so-called "veterans" of the game benefitted from this, by having 3 characters with multi-million SP worth of skills on 1 account, but now the new guys coming in are having to shell out $30-$45 a month to have the same privilege, to have the privilege of having 1 combat main, 1 industry alt, 1 science alt.

They benefit from this not only from the isk standpoint, but being totally self-sufficient, they can sneak their industry alt to 0.0 to pump out ships for them, using the BPO's that the science alt won and researched.

Another way they benefit from this arrangement is that once you reach a certain number of skills in 1 department you don't need any more. For example if you have a combat character, he's not gonna have mining 5 astrogeology 5 industry 5 refining 5 science 5 and so forth, he's only going to have COMBAT skills, maybe 10 million SP worth, then he can just stop training skills.

How is this an advantage you say? A person with only 1 account is going to be needing a 30 million SP clone, because he's doing mining combat industry etc all on 1 character, so he needs uber clone to protect his investment. The guy with 3 game accounts is generating 3 times the rate of skillpoints, and only 1/3 of the tree each, so instead of needing a 30 million SP clone, he's gonna be using a 10mil sp clone x 3 characters, 2 of which are mostly gonna stay in high sec, 1 of them he uses for "serious" business. So his losses in losing his ship/death/etc is negligible, considering the fact that his other 2 alts are basically printing money.

So if you've only got $15 a month to spend, don't even waste your time, you can't compete with the dual-boxing dual-account miner/hauler/combat/science guys. You're gonna be sitting there with 1 account mining for 500k an hour, possibly getting your ore stolen by thieves, meanwhile the smart people are out using macro programs to make 5 mil an hour while they sleep, and funding their pvp, while you'll be scraping together money just to buy your first Battleship and afraid to take it into a battle.

While $30 a month is a hefty price to pay for this game, that's basically what you need to do to experience the "good" stuff, otherwise you'll be stuck in empire with ppl pointing laughing at you for being a "carebear", whereas the people laughing are gonna be alt-tabbing to their carebear alts and funneling cash to their 10 million skillpoint Ravens.

Another bad thing about this system is that the game loses its immersiveness.

Personally, when I'm running multiple alts to do stuff, the game loses its immersiveness for me. I would love to be able to just login as 1 guy and do everything, you could lose yourself and become that gritty space dweller, immerse yourself in the game.

But the way the game is setup now, you need multiple characters to get things done, and to deal with the harshness of the game, because it really is very harsh, this isn't WoW where you die and come back 5 minutes later, here you die it take you 2 hours to fly back to where you were before, unless you have deep pockets and can just clone jump back to where you were, and manufacture a new ship for yourself.

Of course this all takes money, money which is hard to make without multiple accounts, so to play the game with a reasonable level of pain, you need at least 2 accounts, 1 account will have you spending a whole week replacing a lost ship, and 2 hours flying back to where you were before.

Another thing that sucks is instas. You basically NEED instas just to survive, and for most people flying around for hours making instas is a pain in the butt, and having to USE those instas feels like I'm cheating.

When they say "battle" you don't just fly out there like luke-skywalker. When people say "battle" just translate that to mean "logistics." That what battle is in Eve, a contest of logistics, which corp can produce the bigger ship, which corp can find a way to get ammunition to such and such place, thats why so many players use Amarr characters, because laser weapons use no ammo.

People join corps and make friends only to find out that having friends is a liability. If a war breaks out, you might need to leave those friends, if you can't afford to be a member of that corp you might need to quit and go mine for a while, except for those people with multiple accounts, they just need to switch to their alt and transfer money over.

Anyway that's my 2 cents.

They say this game is not for everybody, and I totally agree.

Anyway, I wanted to ask, how many of you out there only have 1 account, and what is your experience with the game? Are you able to have fun on 1 account, if so please tell me how.

Its all about how you play. I only have one account and am happy to multitask. I'm not a powergamer so I don't need to be the best.

If you get camped, do something else. No one makes you play Eve every second of every day! I am in an Empire based mining and trading corp and am not good at PvP. If while mining I have to scoot to a station because pirates enter the system, I either wait them out, (usually only a couple of minutes), do admin type tasks for the corp I belong to, play with my inventory, check the market, use a shuttle to fly to a nearby safe system using BMs or log off.

If people are after you 23/7, you have made enemies. if they are persistant, then you probably deserve it. If you don't like the heat of the kitchen, why did you start cooking?

Eve is a great game, for the serious or casual gamer. Your critique of Eve could apply to any mmo. If you need help and your corp members aren't interested, then change corps. If you lose a ship why wasn't it insured? If you have to mine or trade for a week to recoup losses, where's the problem or do you believe that there should be no consequences to losing ships and material? I'm sorry to hear you're not the uber player on Eve, neither am I, but I'm still having lots of fun.

I mean the empire game isn't even an issue, thats actually what the game does CORRECTLY, if all you do is stay in empire, recouping a ship loss takes like 2 hours + the time it takes to actually go get the ship and fly it back to refit (STILL too much time in my opinion but bearable.)

I just don't feel that someone should NEED to be supported by alts in order to stay out in 0.0

It's a great game but paying $30 out of necessity is grating on my nerves. There comes a point where I just feel like I'm being milked by a company, and I'm at that point now. I actually have friends out there with 3 accounts, paying $45 a month hurts, but they just dont feel the game is worth playing with 1 account or even only 2.

All I'm asking is, if there are SERIOUS (ie not an empire carebear) players out there who HAVE been able to play on 1 account.

Yeah I can logout of Eve and go play counterstrike, but I can do that without having an account at all.

You dont need to make enemies to get camped, it happens all the time, so please don't compare it to empire mining operations, of course if you mine in empire nobody has a reason to bother you.

I have 1 account, and only 1 character on that account - no alts.

i am a merc who is based in 0.0 space, and fight most of the time.

I am in a good corp which provides frigates/cruisers and most gear free of charge though:)

I fly interceptors and loose a fair few of them - thats an ouch, but from the loot i recover from enemies i can usually recoup enough to buy another ceptor.

i dont use implants, and very very few t2 moduels.

I enjoy the game. Its all about having a good corp - some members of our corp love the whole industrial aspect, and they provide lots of stuff - and with our good teamwork, we can mine for 1 day a month (maybe) and get many millions of high end ores.. and a few people hwo like agen missions can povde huge amounts of isk to the corp as well.

    oh and PS.
I've played pretty much since day 1 of the game.
There has NEVER been a time when all 3 slots could train at once.. it happened a while in beta, but never while live.

I only run 1 character on 1 account. He doesnt build or research. He lives in 0.0 killing both npc and pc rats. He can also make 100mill a day mining bistot/crokite. He can can fight in a full t2 geared assualt frig and both Caldari and Amarri battleships. Thats good enough for me :) although i do eventually plan on buying a character that does the industrial side of things i wont need a 2nd account as the merge into my account is covered in the price as per CCP policy. You can buy a good industrial character for 500mill - 1 billion isk. Not bad to buy a toon for 10-15 days work that has a years worth of training.

Oh and if you're mining for 500k an hour you're doing it all wrong lol i can make 50mill in 3 hours of mining with one character.. Thats mining in a raven with only 4 miner 2's on it and doesnt count the booty i get from the big rat bs's i kill while mining.

The game isnt hard. I've been playing for 7 months now but really once you get your first raven money should never be an issue.

    My strategy was this..

first thing i did was find a good corp with 0.0 presence. I'm a member of AUS CORPORATION. We are a small solid corp with a good 0.0 presence, a corporate battleship program where if you mine once a week you will get a bs when you get skills for it. A good corp should be your primary focus. It's not hard to find a corp in 0.0 that will take true noobs. If your willing to go out and learn how to survive they're more than happy to add a body. Apply to AUS CORP if you want a good one.

secondly while training up skills for pvp (starting with learning and advanced learning skills) and bs's i flew missions in a missile boat and mined in an osprey in 0.0. 0.0 is the key to making huge amounts of money. With the use of insta jumps and an insta warping frigate you can move your minerals back to empire and never be ganked.

third, when i got my bs skills i got a raven from my corp. We mine once a week. They built it and insured it. Then its just a matter of running lvl 3-4 missions or moving it out to 0.0. Once you have a raven in 0.0 and are part of a solid alliance you should never want for isk. It's just way too easy to chain a good npc spawn and mine.

I did all that while having a major Alliance war and several smaller wars. In every war i fought hard and died like a pro. The last war i was in i lost 4 scorpions and a few frigates.. Such is the nature of the game.. but by playing the way i do losing 4 bs's isnt anything big.

Thanks for the replies guys, especially Cope, yeah I guess that's what I'm doing wrong, I'm miserable in the corps I join but don't want to badmouth them, also don't want to feel like I'm "abandoning" them so I stay on and try to do whatever I have to, in order to make it to the battles, to be able to insure myself and fly ships.

I've spent weeks mining in empire to afford ships just to go lose them in 0.0, that's a good system of having mining op once a week and being able to fly a BS, I can't even get my corp to SELL me a ship in 0.0 everybody's either too busy or they dont have enough mins, or whatever. I'll bring a Caracal up north, lose it, and then sit there in a Reaper with my thumb up my a$$ trying to figure out how to get another ship, and how to afford it.

Good corps are hard to find.

Hey feel free to apply to aus corp :)

talk to Kalened (me), Blazerswoman or Einstine and we'll help ya get in. We're all up north now and happy to have more people up here with us.

Oh and ya gotta be on teamspeak though.. kinda mandatory these days.

I have 3 chars on one account, it's a pain not being able to train more then one at the time, works okey when it take below 2 hours to train, but now i reach skills that take 8+ hours, glad i'm not a power gamer myelf, but sure is evil having that new ship and not being able to use it for another xx hours :)
