Look, Rift for the most part is...part of me wants to say garbage, but thats to harsh... lets just say a lot of it is really really really generic and not in the good way.
I have seen more innovative and interesting quests in cheap f2p mmorpgs than I have seen in Rift, and that makes me a sad panda!
Crafting is so bad, it makes WoW's crafting system look brilliant!
Its completely linear in the first 1-20 levels. Just follow the path and it will lead you to your next generic quest hub!
The world is fairly underwhelming. Your faction city looks more like a few tents, a building and 10 npcs. Over exaggeration really, but its pretty dissapointing the moment you reach it.
NOW, all that said....
It has two really strong things going for it.
1. Rifts are pretty damn neeto! They spawn invasions and you see npc factions fighting eachother. Hopefully this doesnt get old fast (like WAR's Public Quest system) but I think we have barely seen the tip of the ice berg as far as rifts are concerned.
2. Class system. It offers some interesting combinations.... though it feels like there are a lot of choices, I have a feeling very few will be worth exploring unless they revamp some of the skills. So this can either get really good or really bad when the pvp starts.
Over all I think if the PvP, class system and Rifts can keep people interested beyond the rest of the below average stuff, it will be worth playing...at least for the first 3-6 month period. After that... I have no clue. Time will tell.
Dislike after beta. It's heavily based on WoW, but just less good. You're going to pay P2P + new game for content that is a fraction of that which WoW has to offer. Why would you do that..
When will these fuckin companies learn that we don't need another generic quest-based MMO. I mean honestly, how many games have to go under or do significantly worse than expected before this is realized? Have WAR, AoC and Aion not given these companies a hint? For fuck sake, try something new or don't try anything. It doesn't hurt us as players when your game flops, it hurts you. We have 100 games just like it we can go play, your jobs and lives aren't so easily replaced. Try to break the mold, or at least bend it or don't expect to turn a profit. I'm glad to see this game is shaping up to be polished, since that's always a concern with MMOs at launch, but being boring isn't really any better. Whatever, I wish Trion Worlds the best of luck and I hope people enjoy the game enough to keep playing, if only because the more MMOs out there, the better. I know I won't be playing and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Maybe Blizzard's Titan project will be something worth playing, time will tell.

Yes, a fresh fantasy game with different lore, much more classes/flexibiltiy, much better graphics, dynamic content, polish........yeah i'd ply it over WoW any day.
When will these fuckin companies learn that we don't need another generic quest-based MMO.
When they masses stop buying the games like sheep. I think we're finally at this point. There's an MMO bubble of these games and at one point cost > return.

First off why would blizzards new MMO be innovative? Blizzard/WoW is the king of genric themepark gameplay.
Second it seems like you are bored of the MMO genre. Sure there can be some dynamic quests and content and such, but questing and killing stuff is how you level up.......it is like saying shit why do FPS always have shooting and guns!?!?! Think of something new!!! LOL it's funny.
When will these fuckin companies learn that we don't need another generic quest-based MMO.
When they masses stop buying the games like sheep. I think we're finally at this point. There's an MMO bubble of these games and at one point cost > return.
So let me guess those people are sheep who enjoy these type of games. Lets say a true sandbox game comes out and it becomes a hit and suddenly a lot of other companies copy that formula and you see many MMO's of that type. Will you stop buying it, because it will certainly make you a sheep.
Such a failed logic. If a game is good it sells. period
Dislike after beta. It's heavily based on WoW, but just less good. You're going to pay P2P + new game for content that is a fraction of that which WoW has to offer. Why would you do that..
Why would you want to play the same fucking game that you've been playing for years, whether that be WoW or LotrO or whatever?
Do you also play the same singleplayer game for years while ignoring all new games, or eat the same food week after week, or watch the same tv show over and over again?
Some people just aren't stuck in a rut, ruminating the same game as - no offense meant - you see dogs sometimes chew the same bone indefinitely. Some people are openminded towards new things, also when it comes to MMORPG's, and those new things don't have to be totally, radically new and different from everything they've known before.
Your new jacket or shoes also don't have to be radically different from the ones you wore before.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I'm torn. I like the soul system and the graphics/art (minus some of the char models) and rifts can be fun at first but they need more variety. The combat and quests are bland and it seems the equipment upgrades are few, far between and minor.
Simple question, hit the poll. After the current version fo the beta did you; Like it or dislike it.
Feel free to tell us what you picked and why.
Unless am mistaken, TRION HAS NOT LIFTED THE NDA, IT IS STILL IN FORCE. People like you talking about the beta can cause Trion to cancel any more beta's until live launch....

Loved it, my wife and I jumped off the rails in beta 2 and didnt do a single quest after starting area and found lots of cool places. Found some ruins with treasure chest found a weapon rack that gave gear found other chests in other places ran into named mobs that dropped loot. We rant alot of rifts ended up with decent gear with all that and the planar vendors. We decided to see if we could run the game more akin to EQ1 and we are completely able to. Granted we went faster running nothing but quests, but now that we know we can go just as well not running quests we are not stuck in what we do to progress. They run massive events that are pretty much re-creations of battles with invaders tons of rifts open everywhere guards marching in defense with huge raid mobs that are cool as hell to fight with an auto join raid function this is amazingly fun. They also stated that events like these are a normal part of the game so from time to time in different places stuff like this will be going on.
They also have instances for those that want a little more as well. And we also know they will have different versions of these instances so at a later date you can come back all jazzed up with new gear and at max level and run the expert version. Where not onlly are the bosses and mobs harder but new areas will become accessible. I think that is just way cool myselt, my wife loves this as well.
The classes are fun to toy with and they keep us happy. The amount of customization that you have at your finger tips with this design really makes me feel like the character is mine and I can get into more depth of how i want to play. They are constantly improving the classes and they have stayed in pretty good contact with the beta testers. The responses we get from them leave you no doubt that they are indeed listening to us. The fact they have a cleric build that can tank and a rogue build that can tank, with a mage build that can heal is enough to keep my instrests. You dont have to stay in the Holy trinity, war tank, mage nuke, rogue dps, cleric heal you can swap that all around and have a blast doing it.
All in all we really enjoyed this game and want to see more. Cant wait for beta 3.
LOL, what I get for not reading Trion Forums first. Always tend to read MMORPG first before anything else. Well good luck with the final beta, unfortantly will be offline during that timeframe for the holidays through the new year.

But if it isn't radically different and the old one still works fine, why buy it again?
I played the beta, it was fun but like other said it's too much of the standard an MMO for me to worked up about it. Maybe after they put more details about pvp or raids I might think about buying it.
I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less.
Dislike after beta. It's heavily based on WoW, but just less good. You're going to pay P2P + new game for content that is a fraction of that which WoW has to offer. Why would you do that..
I felt the same way too. These so call dynamic events are very annoying to me. I played really late at nite and it's sux to solo these dynamic events. we having the same problem with Public quest in WAR. To me, RIFT is an alternative to wow, but with newer graphic.
I've played alot of crappie games over the years and this game isn't one of them. It might not be the most original or complex, but for what it is it's done well. I'm gonna play this game because it is interesting and kinda fun. It may just be WOW with new skin , well I don't have a problem with that. And anyone who says me buying a game like that is killing the industry is retarded. Developers putting out games before they are finished is what's killing it. If games like FFIX, Star trek or MO wernt released before they were ready then this would have been a much better gaming year.
I wrote a much more involved post on my blog http://gamers-phalanx.blogspot.com/ so won't go and rehash everything. I will say that you can tell that Rift and WAR are built around the same engine, but Rift puts WAR to shame in it's current form. The engine can handle heavier loads respectably well, scales well as FPS drops, and generally feels more like how WAR should have been.
Rift isn't a terrible game in any way. It's nothing really new however, but they have never said they were going to break any real ground. All the systems in Rift has been seen in other areas, but Rift has done, just like WoW before and taken those systems and enhanced them with Trion's personal twist. PQs in Rift are a fun thing, and I soloed a good number on both my Warrior and Cleric. Of course I never expected the rifts to be the only source of entertainment so I mixed the rifts and invasions in with my natural questing, only really focusing on the rifts to get the tokens required to get some of the Planar Goods you can purchase.
If someone is wanting a casual game where you have options then Rift will no doubt be for you as an alternative to WoW/EQ2/WAR style of casual games, but if you are expecting anywhere near hardcore then Rift will let you down. It is meant to be a game and not a lifestyle. Will it be successful in the long term? That will eventually fall onto Trion's shoulders of delivering patches and content in a timely enough manor to keep people interested, but for release the game is solid enough it should be just fine come opening day.
If they can knock the soul system and rifts out of the park, this game will be really good. If they can't bring those two mechanics to a high level, it will just be another WoW clone.

Liked it a lot. Can't wait for beta 3. I don't even feel like logging in FFXIV to check the new changes.

Someone needs to check the news.
This is not a game.
I voted "Like it", but I don't think I will be playing come release.
For what it is, it's nice.
There's a NDA... The only NDA that is lift is the one for the BETA EVENTS... Not the one where the real tests is going on.
