The other day I did the Haramal (not sure I spelled that right) solo instance at the Observatory. It was the most fun I have had in an MMO this whole year. Kudos to the AION team for developing a well balanced and fun instance. It looks like the AION team is headed in the right direction (which is more than I can say for LOTRO this last year).

True this is a step in the right direction , but for the most the servers are a mess with balance issues and constant server transfers .Still i do love the game even if i don't have all that much time to play it .
I hope they continue in the right direction then maybe alot of the old player base will be back also.
I've only started Aion 6 weeks ago and am hooked. It's a great PvE game so far, and am having fun. Not sure what PvP will be like, but we'll see when I get there. From a PvE point of view, love the game, and know it had a rocky start, so I hope more will return.
I enjoyed the game initially alot, then I hit level ~30 and it started to fall short. After hitting lvl 47 I couldn't take it anymore. With all the frustrations and repetitive grinding that they had in that game I just lost interest. Now everything they do to right the wrongs of the past just make me hate the fact I wasted the time playing it in the first place. It's a shame the way that they released this game, because me and all of my friends refuse to go back.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
Sadly, all MMO's end up different from the way they are released. Mostly due to the fact that CB can only give so much feedback on how the players will recieve the game. This leaves games that wish to continue into a constent evoloution state. They are never done.
Game still feels incredibly brutal to me. I guess I'm just a carebear, but even the most mundane tasks in this game seem to be an exercise in frustration as like every other fight I get into on my ranger takes me to half or less than half of my hitpoints, if I get an add midway through a fight, I most likely won't survive long enough to run off the aggro, and I'm constantly getting solo quests that I don't feel like my level 17 ranger has the skills to complete on his own. I just can't seem to get into a good grove where I feel like I'm really progressing through the game. It's like every 5 or 6 pulls or every two or three quests, something cheap happens and I find myself facing paying the healer NPC another thousand kinah and flying back to my quest location. The only thing I can compare the frustration to is FFXI where you can kill one sheep barely taking any damage and the next one kills you in three hits.
People tell me it gets better once I get more skills, but what I want to know is why it isn't "already" better. In World of Warcraft or LotRO the content scales well to the abilities of all the classes, and there's no real period that I can recall where I felt my class was any more or any less capable than it is at the cap. In Aion, I know the ranger is pretty bad until 19-25, but from what I understand, there are plenty of other classes that experience this issue at various times within the game, and to be honest, it's the biggest turnoff to me. I know I could probably never get any of my friends to play this game with me, given the troubles I've had.
It can be brutal. Level differences are huge in this game. I came back yesterday to see the changes. I log on to my level 34 ranger, and within 20 seconds I'm ambushed in town by some enemy, 3 hits and I'm dead. A nice welcome back I guess.
You almost had me til that last line. To me, people that criticize one game to make another look good, just loses all credibility.
You have to be kidding me. A ranger that loses one hit point in PvE fight is doing something wrong (bar against ranged monsters).
Ranger is a kiting class, pure and simple. It's quite exhausting to play, because you have to run back and forth but that's how it should be played. If you want a class that does damage and can take the beating, take gladiator.
I levelled my gladiator from 1 to 40 in 2 weeks without stress because he doesn't take much damage from physical attacks. Glad also gives you the groove once you learn the skill rotation and weaving.
I always love Aion for the first week I come back. Then I realise why I quit every time before that. I get to around 30+, then I start doing FT, and I do the entire instance, for 1.5 bars of exp. That isn't fun. That isn't worth it. So I go quest. Just to realise that killing the monsters for the quest, gave me about 4 times the amount of exp total that the quest gives. Which isn't much at all. The game just takes SOOOO much time, and I played and enjoyed Lineage 2 for 4 years. For some reason grinding in that, was more fun than grinding in Aion.
Here is the issue I believe might be causing that feeling for you.. Its the constant running back and forth to the quest givers every 15 to 30 minutes to get another go out and kill quest. Thats what makes the game feel grindy IMHO.. Even with the instances 99% of the groups want to bypass 80% of the mobs in the dungeon to get to the bosses. Instead of just enjoy running thru and killing stuff along the way. Then when you rush thru you have to go back and turn in quests and do it all over again.
Last few nights I have been playing In Mistmane on my Templar.... I am absolutely loving the place... Why?? Because yes I have a dozen quests for the place. But I can spend 3 or 4 hours in there killing everything we come across. Loading up on combat XP, and not worrying about going to do quest turn ins untill the very end of the night....
So I conclude its not the combat, its not the quests... What it is IS THE RUNNING BACK AND FORTH NONSTOP TO TURN IN ININSPRIED UNINRERESTING QUESTS! 20 times a night.
Yeah ranger sucks ass 10-19 IMO 22 but come end game your beastly stick with it.
My problem with this game is that the content is sooo boring. All the dungeons are just tank and spank. There's no scripting or anything, no strategy to it at all. It's just so boring. Where as I picked up WoW, and running dungeons in that is so much more fun it's not even fun.
It depresses me more than anything because to me right now Aion is just a pile of wasted potential. The content is just not fun, the PvP is a broken mess, and fortress seiges are just big zerg rush lag fests because too many people show up.
They need more dungeons, better dungeons, and some sort of organized PvP like Battlegrounds/Arena. Because honestly after playing WoW for almost a month now I can tell you that it's a much better game.
Although I do hope that the vision trailer eventually comes true. I think something like that is what Aion really needs.
i personaly dont like were Aion is going.
first of all they never should have made that Deava gear (or low level gold gear for that matter) that all those level 30 twinks used to gank regular questing people that have absolutely no way to fight back.
second they add that stupid buff so people can finaly quest without getting intantly killed every 2 minutes, and completely kill rifting not only for twinks but for everyone else. basicly no pvp unless you are at end level. very lame.
now they are removing the buff so that rifting might become doable again........?!?
to me this is nothing but a lazy flip floping to try and please one month the pvper and one month the pvers. peronaly this annoys me to no end. i love the idea of rifting, but the low level twinking is completely out of hand. with the right set of gear you are bascally a god and can stay in enemy territory almost endlessly especialy if you are a stealth class. this is complete horse shit. instead of looking at the serious issues they have with twink gear they just take the lazy route and invent a buff to protect those that dont have gear.........then when all pvper get pissed off and leave they remove the buff.
this is just moronic. all that will happen is that twinks will come back and all pvers will leave again. and round n round we go.
they absolutely need to take a stand. if rifting is Aion's pvp then twinking has to be severely limited in the questing zones somehow. remove the Abyss points gain wile rifting in enemy territory (abyss not included) but depending on what level disparity there is between you and you enemy there should be Abyss loss (to avoid high levels running low levels through) . then add more spy quests that give Abyss points or something.
Actually there is a slight buff for rifters still in place. The rifting system that is in place now has brought great PVP back to mid level gameplay. I have yet to actually go to the other side but have been engaged with rifters several times, in defence of our lands. This has added a great sense of suspense and enjoyment to the game with the current system in place.
Dont get me wrong there are still crybabies in the game that dont like their endless quest grind to have the chance to be possibly interrupted, or that dont know how to actually die a few times to other players without getting upset.
Aion right now is pretty much one of the best games going...IMHO.. granted the quests are pretty boring.
Nonscripted open world fights add alot more depth in combat encounters....
what you described above is exactly why i love rifting, that's how it was back at launch when everyone was rifting but nobody had insane twink gear. all pvp encouters were very random, spontaneous and exciting.
the problem now days is that many vets have had time to collect all the best twink gear aveilable and use it on their low level gankers to rift and obliterate defenceless people for pretty much free AB points. i say defenceless because that's exactly how it is with such a huge gear disparity regardless of level. i'v had sinss and sourcerors blow up my chain mail wearing cleric in one cc with insane damage bursts. there was absolute no way to fight back, and it was happening way too often. i was alive and fighting NPCs and then litteraly 2 insane crits later i was dead. this is neither fair nor fun, and this is what has to be stopped.
Don't play this game for the quests, that's the wrong mindset in my opinion. The quests in this game are mindnumbing boring. I like certains aspects of Aion, just not the questing.
