SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

ArenaNet's Martin Kerstein stopped by GuildWars2Guru.com and let everyone know that a new Guild Wars 2 profession will be revealed in January. He's asking folks to spread the word.

Hello my fellow Guild Wars 2 enthusiasts.

As a little Christmas present - we will show you folks a new profession in January. Spread the word.

Source: Guild Wars 2 Guru.

Any thoughts as to what the new profession will be? Post below!

    Totally Assassin.

Either the Mesmer or Assassin pretty much convinced that both of these will be in GW2. They will save the new ones till closer to release - that makes marketing sense.

I concur. I think it makes sense to confirm the returning classes before the new ones as well.  This way at least you already have the fans of the first game as an existing fanbase which you can build upon with new features later in the development and testing process.

An announcement for an upcoming announcement. Am I the only one who finds this a bit redundant?

Sure I'm excited to learn about a new profession but this announcement is just pure hype, with no info to take from it, apart from the approx. date of a profession reveal. I already figured we'd get one in January, if we weren't getting one this month.

I don't care what profession it is, I'm just glad to have another one revealed.

You are right, of course. I was hoping for one around this time and not surprisingly they delivered.  I do think this announcement of a forthcoming announcement is useful for the more hardcore followers but I feel that urging us to spread the word about it is pointless. I will spread the word of the class once it is announced. However, +1 to Anet for my hype increase at this time.  The silence of the post expo season was starting to make me sad and I was starting to direct immediate attention elsewhere (RIFT).

It was done because it's been several months since an update and their facebook/twitter has been aflame with fans demanding information. Plenty of people have actually been asking for just this; that if they're not going to release info that month, at least give a date when they will.

And here, we have a date, when they will.

Besides stuff like this just gets posted on their blog, as it should be. It gets blown up and hyped by everyone else. Case in point, the new book, which also managed to end up as a news post here, their contest with Kekai ending up news, etc....none of that has anything to do with the game, but Anet posted it on their blog so right away, game sites are rush to be the first ones to re-post it on theirs.

I thought 4 were the original classes (Warrior, Ranger, Necromancer, and Elementist) and the other 4 were suppose to be classes we haven't heard of yet...Also, people. He didn't throw any stars, he threw the axe...lol

The pic is not related to the announcement.

    This is not a game.

Yay for more GW2 info! cheers

It'll either be mesmer or monk, ANet have as good as said both of them will be in (they've even discussed the monk specifically), and as others have said they'll save the 2 brand new classes til last. These class announcements aren't so much about the class identity but simply what the GW2 incarnation will be like.

Alberel you are very misinformed. The only discussion of the monk they had was how they weren't going to be in the game. Now, I hope it's the blue mace lady, but it would probably be the assassin. Why? Because they just released a scholar class, and probably won't release 2 in a row.

6 of the professions are from the original game. Only 2 professions will be new ones.

I think it will be an adventurer profession revealed. We have 1 scholar, 2 adventurer, and 1 soldier professsion yet to be revealed. The assassin is probably a good bet.

I'm glad to know that we are going to receive some new information, and yes, this announcement is a little ridiculous.

    Carpe Diem
