I think there big failing is there character creation, have the fun is having different toons, now you only need one or 2 and they can do everything and you can solo everything no need to group.
It kills replayability when you can instantly switch what your toon is in a second.
Well, actually you need at least three toons to play all classes and you can only have three seperate builds (though can can redo the builds you have).
In regards to being able to solo everthing and not needing a group that is not at all acurate. The dungeons can NOT be soloed at all unless you go in one 20 levels higher than the dungeons is set for. That is just one example.
I do agree that with only two starting zones and the flexibility of the character mechanics that replayability may be limited.
I got good performance out of both betas on a laptop, but I wasn't really pushing it, graphically. I hope they work out the issues for you guys with beastly rigs.
Wot?? I have a 3+ year old computer, and it ran very well. Even with many others I was able to run it on a decend resolution. Yes, some times were laggy times. And the really huge endbattle was a bit laggy at some times. But overall it ran quite remarable good for me. *shrug*

Just a caveat for those experiencing low fps that have quad cores or better, a buddy of mine is having similar issues with wow-cataclysm at the moment.
He has a quad core 2.4 ghz, gt 460 gfx card 6 gig ram etc, and is getting 10-14 fps across the board whether in cities or outside in wide open areas.
I'm assuming the issue is the same as for rift, since only 2 cores are supported if each core isnt above say 2.8ghz they will likely struggle to give even moderate performance!
By contrast my old 3.0 ghz dual core is giving around 35-60 fps (card is a shitty GT220).
Hopefully this issue will be ironed out at launch will quads etc being fully supported (Blizzard are doing nothing about the issue btw!)
My hexacore is however 3,2 Ghz and should therefor perform great (480 GTX BTW) but I still just get around 20 in Ultra and 24 when I lower it.
So the processor matters but I ain't the only one that gets bad performance with a high end card, that seems to be rather common.
There seems to be some issues with the GFX cards as well. I hope they fix that too.
Yeah, I have a good system, decent card that runs quite a few things at very high levels (It's a GTX 260) and I have been getting 20 fps or a bit lower at times where in other games I do far better.
looking at the processor it seems like it has 8 cores (is that possible or am I reading something wrong?) Intel Core i7 CPU 3.07ghz. Good disk drive as my roommate (who built the compuer) reminded me that the hard drive can be a great bottleneck in playing games.
Essentially I have been putting my games on max and enjoying them. But on Ultra, as I mentioned, I only get 20 fps or so.
Your CPU has hyper threading giving you two threads per core and your OS sees it as eight cores when in fact it's four cores with two threads each.
Well, im no fan boy of Rift, i played BETA 2, had a slight issue on High settings. Ran fine on Low, but GUYS CMON it's still in closed BETA, dont forget a BETA is still a development stage of the game, Im positive the performance issues have been taken into account, and I do know there are some issues atm with some ATI cards and performance.
Can you guys get some load readings on your cpu/gfx when you get a chance to play it again. Also does the game reconize xfire & sli and what is the load on that kind of set up.

yeah the resolution you are running at might be an important factor. That was one thing I did not try. I am running at 1980x1200 so perhaps the game goes to crap at higher resolutions?! Next time I'm in beta if the performance still sucks I'll definitely give different resolutions a try to see what impact that has.
Not that it should really matter mind you... I run at this resolution in just about every MMO out and don't have any issues.
wait most people whine about the performance... cmon ... its a beta lol! the performance is not the reason why RIFT will fail hard. its more a content releated problem. RIFT is just boring. 5-6 month and it will be f2p.
I dont get this performance thing.. its got nothing to do with the game.. it's your own bloody computers. With an i7 930, 5850 turbo, 6g 1600mhz ram I was getting between 40-60 frames on high.. not to mention there were always between 20-100+ characters on the screen at a time easily.
Its a new game... your systems are old.. keep up, or expect games to start running worse. My system is hardly top of line...
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
