Or we could realize that the performance increase is negligable at best and not waste our money regardless.
I think bang for buck it was a waste of money at full price and still is at half. I applaud their efforts to make network cars better (and they do), but the performance increase is still mostly limited by your router and/or demodulator(modem).
This is not a flame post, please don't take it as such. Just trying to offer some viewers a perspective of why not to purchase this.
If it was 25 bucks or less then we could start talking about it being a decent value. That would not be on sale either, 25 bucks retail would be the price that they would start selling in mass quantities. I'd drop 25 bucks for 2-10ms latency increase, keep in mind that is heavily weighted (for you stats people) towards the lower end.
EDIT: I just want to be perfectly clear that this is not a flame post. If it comes off as such I'm sorry in advance and can I ask that you message me and tell me how to edit it to make it appropriatte or just edit it yourself. I would rather compromise than be banned again.
No, i've never been tempted nor ever will. Gigabit gaming network cards are nothing more than a gimick, they're no better than other good network card not "loldesigned for gaming".
Good god you people are ruthless. Why so damned bitter?? Seems to be a ever increasing problem in the MMO community. YIKES.
Advising people not to waste money is not ruthless. The card will give you exactly 0 performance gain over a $10 Rosewill Ethernet card, when playing on the internet. LAN gaming, you may see a 5ms difference. When you're dealing with a 1-15ms ping on LAN games, this isn't that much of a difference either.
This card does nothing but pander to people who think throwing tons of money at a computer, will make it better.
At the end of the day it's nothing more than a paid for Advert. It's not like the thread was posted for free, Christmas or not.
you can only take advantage of this deal if you are american btw.

I applaud their efforts at trying to make a better NIC, unfortunately the value that this card offers and it's price are still far apart. Sometimes a good idea is not economically viable. I just don't think it was a good business decision to produce this card. Sometimes a you have to reign in the engineers by common sense, it was evidently not done in this case.
It's probably because the kinds of games we like to play don't exist anymore. How would you like it if I came to your Infocom fansite and tried to sell you a video card?

You have to give them credit for marketing it has apparently paid off, as they are still around ><
is it me, or does the link send me to another item besides the killer 2100?
These cards are the PC parts equivalent of 25 dollar walmart spinning rims.
You sir, are win.
So wait, you're trying to tell me that I can now pay $39.98 and get the same exact performance I always had with the NIC that came with my motherboard? STFU and take my money!
FYI MMORPG.com did not take a single dollar for this offer. The benefit to us is simply being able to give our members a good deal on something and perhaps get more people to become MMORPG.com members. Obviously a good marketing effort by them but no financial gain for us.
FilePlanet had this *exact* same offer last week except they were only offering it to their "premium" paid members, we are able to give it to everyone totally free.
For what it is worth I actually own one of these and use it on a home built flight simulator with multiple computers driving outside displays. I installed one of these cards on the server unit because it has to xmit to each display computer 40-60 times per second...it did bring the lag time down I am guessing 20-30%. It does come with a really nice piece of software that lets you manage your network priorities on a per-application level and the build quality on the card is very nice. I paid $90 for mine a while back, but at $40 I am a tad tempted to drop another one in my gaming rig.
Merry Christmas!

I commend you guys in bringing this deal to us but I think items like gaming keyboards headsets or mice would be better accepted then a network card. Something more in the way of accessories then hardware.
If it's more than free it's too much!
I have a Killer Xeno Pro, and while it does basically do what it says, there are good reasons why I'm constantly telling people to buy an SSD and don't bring up the network card. It will take several milliseconds off of your ping time and maybe add a frame per second or so. But for someone spending $1000 on a gaming machine, you'll see bigger improvements by spending the extra money elsewhere.
For someone with a $3000 budget, on the other hand, one of Bigfoot's network cards offers more benefit than you'd get from spending $40 elsewhere after you've already got a high end processor, a pair of high end video cards in CrossFire or SLI, a large SSD, and other goodies appopriate to that kind of budget.
Too bad its just for the US.
yo mmorpg.com: great scam post for christmas..
like hell i would buythis pos. however if i won it in a contest i would use it..
butno for $40 i can get a great game/games.
It..Burns..
I have one of these cards they are usefull and good i love limiting each program on connetivity. But again I like nice things I never throw cheap crap in my system you get what you pay for at the end of the day I needed this card to I could multi-task connections and it did exactly what I needed it for.
So what I paid more than a normal card that didnt have the capability.
the amount of difference one of these cards make, is negligible, and only to FPS, on a LAN.. as soon as these things have to contend with the internet.. its subject to the same delays etc of every other game out there.. its a lot of money.. for unfortunately.. very little gain, if any.
Come on it's not like they are selling "Tin-Foil" hats for $40...
Nice deal, Just wish I could get one for $40 outside the US as I'm going to buy one soon:(
Meh I'll just use leatrix's latency fix on wowinterface.com does the same thing this over priced network card does, cept its free.
"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words."
