I really didn't execpt to like this game when I downloaded the beta.  I was pleasently suprised.  It was fun.    It's action oriented and overall a pretty good game with a decent PvP expeirience.    The problem is it's just not good enough for my to pay what they are asking.  I would shell out 49.99 for the "box" but I wouldn't pay a monthly fee.  OR I would pay 9.99 a month if the client was free to download.   But 49.99 for the client and the expected 14.99 a month is just to much.    I seriously think price is going to be the downfall of this game.

Thats the same thing I have been thinking. I like them game and all, but I can't see myself paying monthly for it.

  • BizmarkBizmark Member Posts: 16

I have to agree. I read good things about the game, and was expecting it to be decent. It was and I could see myself playing it for a few weeks, maybe 2 months tops. No way can I see myself spending $50 on the box, and $15 a month on that. I could find better games on my 360 for that much money.

I hate to say this because of the fun I've had with the game but this is my feeling too right now, I just am having a hard time justifying paying a fifteen dollar monthly fee for this game.  As it stands right now on the ps3 the text is unreadable and the way the game is set up creates a serious detachment from the "mmo" portion of this game.  It feels like a very well done single player console game and I'm just not sure if there will be enough quests to justify paying beyond a first month for this game.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Yeah but why should it be written in stone like that. What's so holy about the 15$ thing that cannot be changed.

No, I am not new to MMO's.  I just don't think the game is worth 49.99 to buy the client and then 14.99 a month after that.  That being the standard price of a mmo is irrelevant.

I agree with the OP. The game is fun, but honestly how much can one play the same form of content over and over again. Standard PvE quests and PvP content can get old after a month maybe two months at most. There needs to be more content to the game. I know maybe crafting wouldnt work well in the DC Universe, but it feels like its missing something. Right now it feels just like a single player action game. Its not worth the $15 a month right now.

Atleast the PC version is $10 cheaper to buy and also offers the lifetime sub option, PS3 will cost $59 and no lifetime sub, will end up costing even more for something that will be 3/4 of the game as the PC version due to PS3 hardware limitations and such.

I throughly enjoyed playing the game, but I feel the same way too, it's just not worth the price to me unfortunely (even after everything is fixed).

Four out of five responders have agreed with the op so I don't think it's an issue of whether or not the op has played mmorpg's or not as much as it is an issue of if DCUO is going to be able to deliver the same level of services we feel we get from the other games we pay fifteen dollars a month for.

For me so far the answer is no, I don't really feel like I'm playing an mmorpg with many other people for various reasons from the text on ps3 being extremely difficult to read to the lack of alternate activities.

I think having played games like Champions online and City of Heroes will also hurt this game as a player like myself having had the experience of playing those games for a few months only to hit that wall will look at this game and realize that as it stands now that same wall will be hit, the difference is when exactly one will hit it.

Even the reasons they give for justifying a monthly fee make me skeptical, if I play out all the content I want to try in a month what exactly does "new content" every month mean?  A new storyline will be added, multiple storylines, how long will these take to finish?

Right now too many questions remain unanswered for me to feel comfortable saying I certainly have no problem spending fifty dollars plus a sub fee for this game as good as it has been.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Just wait until he realises that SOE have most likely stripped a lot of the core game he think is missing to stick in the cash shop lol.. wait till you see what he think then, when he is charged extra for that content ON TOP of the sub :P

I don't see anyone showing surprise that the price is fifteen dollars (well beyond the general concensus that we can pretty roundly agree it isn't worth that much).  I think the easiest way for me to explain it is at this point if a game wants to charge me the standard fifteen dollar subscription fee there simply must be some alternative content to combat in the game period.

As has been stated pretty often as I've seen it if all I'll have to do is beat up people I may be more willing to pay if it's less than the fifteen they expect to charge.  I would feel much more comfortable with a price point of 9.99 a month for what they are offering and unless they change it I'm starting to think this game is going to suffer.

They really need to stop trying to make MMOs on consoles.. alot of console gamers dont understand monthly fees, nor do they want too.

Just like i barely understand why people pay for xbox live.

Ermm its not just console gamers that "dont get it". Lots of people dont see the value of paying extra monthly fees on top of buying a game at full price, and indeed why should they? No clear answer has ever really been given as to why these fees exist. The lack of a good reason (other than greed and "its just the way it is") is why this topic gets debated a lot. Just like worshipping an invisible sky god has become accepted as normal due to it being practiced over a long period of time, so too has the mmo monthly fee become accepted as the standard for these types of games without any particular reason.

No I think its a good thing that mmos continue to get made for consoles. It will cause people to question the neccessity of monthly fees even more, as these mmos get compared to all the other games on the market (which dont have monthly fees). It will also highlight the low quality of mmos too, because so far it has also become standard practice to release unfinished or badly designed games and then use sub fees to continue working on them over the years in the hope that a good game might materialise at some unknown future date.

I'm not really familiar with xbox live. Dont you just pay a one off monthly or yearly fee which gives you access to whatever online features are available on the games you own? I'm probably missing something here due to my lack of xbox knowledge, but how is that worse than paying a monthly fee to get access to ONE of your games?

I believe one of the reasons DeserttFoxx mentioned the xbox live thing is because the Wii and PS3 offer free online gaming.

Well in many pc games we don't pay for gaining access to online features. For the same games that there are in 360. We pay only in mmos. Do you know why there aren't any mmo for 360? Peoples would have to pay the sub of mmo on top of the xbox live. So yeah, we'll never see a mmo in 360, only if it's published from microsoft.

I not to familer with console gaming, an only use it for the aspect of 2 player split screen to really enjoy a game with some one next to me.

I been following this DC game an can only wish to play a 2 player split screeen mmo.

I will probably try it for a month, but I'm not going to buy another ps3 just to have a 2player experience with family an friends that come over.

to me my computer represents solitude gaming an my console is for companion gaming.

one major reasons I hate new mmo's on pc they force us to group an pretty much why I havent found a new game since DAOC when they introduct trials of atlantus.

The game itself is worth the price of a single player game so teh up front price doesn't even bother me. Get the first month free to play online too. I think its fun enough that I at least can play a month or 2 cancel and pick it up again down the line anytime. Its action MMO and its that type of game. I plan on picking up another MMORPG when it releases anyways so wll use this game as a time killer and have fun doing it.

Well I am  surprised that one of the developers has not tried to get $19.95 a month yet. I am not sure any Superhero game can have depth and weight lol. I plan to play it as long as it is fun and move on. I have spent thousands of dollars on stupid useless things in my life. I am not going to to get shookup about $50. Drink a few less redbulls and smoke less cigarettes. Game on!

It is not on the 360. and  its on PS3 and PS3 is free where xbox is not so, your paying for an MMO, not a regular game that you have to pay for content, atleast with this game , you are not paying for content its part of the monthly fee anyone who has played an MMO knows what the fees are for. if not then I suggest you stick with your xbox and pay your monthly fee for no updates....Then double charge you for DLC's...

Also xbox you can't play games with people that have a PC version like this MMO , I like the fact that sony is doing this, it makes it so friends who have a PC and not a PS3 can play together, where xbox is behide times when it comes to that, plus they charge for there online so I dunno how you can complain about sony charging ...

Exactly, all these "cosmetic stuff" should be included in sub as ingame items (I still think sub is too high, but with item shop, its ridiculous).

What are you talking about exactly? The PS3 and PC servers are separate from each other. So as far as that goes xbox isn't behind the times.
