Name one game that has beeter character customization than CoH
All Points Bulletin
On metacritic website CoH rates an average score of 85 based on 58 critic reviews. APB gets a whopping 58 based on 42 critic reviews. Nice try.
did you even read what you quoted? i understand you're a fanboy who is overly impressed by the fact you can make a large breasted female character(pro tip: this is the internet, you can find pictures and videos of actual naked women all over) but you might want to calm down a bit. the first guy says name a game with better character customization(i've never played apb but the other guy seems to think it has better character customization) and you type out something completely irrelevant about the overall scores of the games.
OK then let me simplify it for you... APB sucks and is in receivership while COH just cranked out a sweet expansion and is running strong for 6 years... just like WoW ironically.
once again you fail to understand what's going on kid. i'm not saying apb is good i've never even played it or had any desire to, i was simply pointing out that your comment had nothing to do with the discussion at all. one guy said name a game with a better character creator and then another guy did. you jumped in with a bunch of nonsense that has nothing to do with anything and for some reason you think it is relevant. i'm sorry that this duscussion is so far over your head but honestly its not that hard to follow.
Yes, that happened when people discussed games fanatically. I saw a thread about ABP character creator and it has great features, the ability of placing tatoos over any part of the body is awesome. I wouldn't say better but definitely on par with CoX and CO character creation. Keep in mind the objective of ABP and CoX/CO is different so their character creation focus on different things.
Came back after a 2 year break and wow its so much more fun now. Been playing for 2 weeks now and have not seen 1 farm team in chat.
Combat wow the combat in a full team of 8 this game is sick it puts wow combat to shame.
End game is coming I only hope we will see some even more great stuff coming.
6 of us had stopped playing wow at the moment :P
clicking the Dungeon Finder has now stopped and it feels so nice
I don't belive you. :P
According to OP, there ARE no new players in CoH. /em rollseyes
Personally, I see new and returning players on a daily basis. The OP's claim that CoV was a mod/expansion is as incorrect. That there are nothing but 'Purpled-out Warshades' farming the game and it's all about the loot/gear is ludicrous. That they whip out the "fanboy" tag on anyone that disagrees with him/her/it pretty much makes anything else they say ignorable.
I didn't even have to read through this entire thread to know that he/she/it was on Freedom when claiming that CoH is nothing but farmers. Play on any of the 10 others servers and you don't see that.
I've been playing for almost 3 years, have 5 level 50's, and have yet to experiance all the content the game has to offer. Now they've just added Going Rogue to the growing world of CoH. Yes, it 1-20 content. The missions are a completely different experience than the original CoH/V content, there are moral concequences to your choices. It no longer about go to this building, clear this map, take out this one boss. You may get the option to spare him so he can continue to 'good fight', or maybe they're will to tell you something inportant for letting them go, heck you can decide to wipe them out anyway.
Officially, it's 4 new zones, but the tunnels beneath each Praetorian zone are so huge, I'd personally call it 6 zones.
Originally, there was going to be the beginnings of end-game content (Incarnate) in Going Rogue, but because of player feedback during beta it was removed so that they could really get it to work how they invisioned it to work and how the players suggested they thought it should work. Players will now see the end-game content in Issue 19: Incarnate. Currently, Going Rogue will be required in order to have access to the Incarnate system.
Personally, I still love playing this game. I still play my 50's and I still make new characters. I play with new and returning people, I play with my friends.
All I can recommend is for anoyone to get the trial and check it out themselves, you'll have access to the forums, hit up the people there for suggestions or help. No one can tell you that you will like or dislike any game, but yourself.
This thread/discussion has gone so far left field, I'm not quite sure what's being discussed any more. In fact, I doubt anyone really knows whats happening in here.
There should come a point in any thread (MMORPG needs to create this) that when the discussion reaches levels of non-sense as far out as this one has, that you can no longer post. Anyone who clicks reply or quote after that point is reached, gets a flash window and get to play a pissing contest game (similar too, you know that game in carnavals were you play against others and you hold a water gun and you try till pop the ballon first and if you do you win a teddy bear? ok that)
Cause seriously, that's all this is... pissing contest.

You're one to talk resurrecting a thread that hadn't received a post since 8/27. Now thanks to you it's back at the top of the recent posts list for the cycle to continue ... thanks a lot!
i was going to buy this game for me and my girlfriend this weekend until i started reading up first. glad i found these threads.
you guys might say pvp players are a minority but im sorry, a super hero vs villian game where they cant fight each and it be fun for everyone involved is a broken game. they're super heros and villians. thats what theyre supposed to do, fight each other.
a game like this that cant do that right, is like a rally racing game where the drivers cant race each other, or a fighting game where martial artists cant fight each other. it just doesn't make sense.
Games i'm playing right now...

Um....villains and heroes can fight each other in specific pvp zones....as for fun for everyone, the loser is always going to say it isn't fun. PVP does need work but, at least give the trial a whirl before making such statements.
CO is much better than CoX could ever be. CoX is just old and outdated and all its missions are rehashes.
Your ability to judge the superhero mmo genre is evidenced by your 13 posts in 7 years and lack of stars. CoX is still putting out quality content and the servers are packed. CoX is better by leaps and bounds!

I think it is pretty bad you try to win arguments by belittling other posters. I commend your loyalty to CoX but you should argue more and attack less.
As for my personal opinion in this matter, I have played both games and they have their good and bad things. I played CoX for several years but stopped to play wow for a bit. Then, I decided to try CO, and I got into it pretty fast. I went this weekend to CoX for free reactivation event and while it is fun I can't bring myself to play it again. Praetoria looks nice but so does Paragon City and Rogue Islands, so I didn't see much improvement in that part, especially since the switching sides didn't catch my attention.
For the new powersets, I found dual pistols to be not impressive, especially compared to munitions in CO. Kinetic melee animations are pretty nice and flashy. Demon summoning is awesome, whip power and demon animations are great.
Going Rogue was ok, but a bit lacking imho for an expansion, I am more interested in what the incarnate system will bring to the table.
I still think of CoX as a great game but I can't go back to the cooldowns on powers and archtypes, after getting used to the speed and freedom in CO. With DCUO coming soon, it will be interesting having three different versions of superhero gameplay.
Easily the third best P2P MMORPG on the market currently, and especially impressive given its age. What I have found on my return is this:
I can not only level through street sweeping, arc missions, newspapers mission, which lead to mayhem/patrol missions, AE enertainment, task forces, but now also the Tip Missions. Throw in Ouroboros, and frankly CoX features the most freedom to level 1-50 easily, an the incarnate arcs is the proto stages of adding end game content to CoX universe. The variety of zones you can visit are very large, and travel powers are really enjoyable to use in this game.
Only complaint I have is that too much focus on the end game isn't necessary in the long run, but at least fleshing it out is a good idea. The reason why CoX is succesful is because it focuses on fun, grouping is easy as the holy trinity isn't necessary, and the player base is very friendly (eg costume contests) regardless of your threat level. The sidekick system is probably the best in the industry too which I hear is a major complaint when playing other MMORPG's and friends can't play with each other. CoX thrives on creativity, especially coming from the player base, and that is hard to build up. In addition, CoX has a very strong community, which if L2, and many MMORPG's had, probably would be more succesful, and show the same longevity.
Well, the title of this thread is 'State of COH Aug 2010', so some of his points, such as the farming, were issues back then. However, they've been addressed since then. Unfortunately, even with the time frame in mind, that was really the only argument that had any merit.
State of CoH, Dec 2010
I started playing during open beta, and I've played off and on since then. Throughout its history the game has had an extremely stable player base, though like any MMO its seen rises and falls. However, with the release of Going Rogue, populations in the game have seen a sharp increase. I play on the Virtue server, and the server loads hit red status every evening in the game. You can see this reflected in-game, as well - players are everywhere.
AE farms are a thing of the past. FotM builds have always been popular in CoH, but as there are usually several at any given moment, they're usually not a problem. The only real build problem at the moment is the reliance on /rad controllers/defenders and stone tanks for the tougher end game content. It can be completed without these, but having them on your team makes these trials an order of magnitude less difficult.
Going Rogue's introduction of Praetoria was a godsend to new and old players alike. The new 1-20 experience there is simply phenomenal. The story arcs are all extremely well written, and done so in a way that allows you to make choices that affect the dialogue without affecting what choices you have available. If you have leveled a Praetorian character, I highly suggest you do so. With the various ways you can play, it's possible to run fully through the new content multiple times and have a different experience each time. Resistance warden, resistance crusader, loyalist responsibility, loyalist power, resistance spy, loyalist spy, completionist (all four). I'm on my fourth Praetorian character so far, and I'm still enjoying the new concent.
Broker prices are still astronomical for many things. This is due to the market favoring sellers, so if you want to be rolling in inf, you'll want to use it to your advantage. IO sets are fairly mature at this point, so if you want your character to be as effective as possible, you'll want to make use of them. Unfortunately, there are a handful of sets, such the Luck of the Gambler, which are massively popular and will cost you a collossal amount of inf.
1. PvP has been broken since it was released and I'd rather it was left broken than a balancing took place. I think most people would agree. Specially because PvP was shoved in by cryptic despite the fact that the people who wanted it were a vast minority.
2. I had no problem soloing most of my characters (defender being the exception) so it is hardly "nothing moving without farms. When I did want a team I had no problem getting one interested in normal missions. The people who would constantly complain about farms took no initiative in forming/boosting their own teams.
3. You would rather advocate nerfing some of the most popular powers in the game than ask others to be made more attractive? No game needs that nonsense. Also if everyone wants to have a FOTM build it is their prerogative...particularly in a game known for the amount of character slots available to its players.
4. They released this expansion because the players have asked for this content for years. But I'm sure you'd rather have the devs ignore the playerbase like in every other game right?
5. Last, I remember playing taskforces and trials gave special tokens that could be used to acquire purples. Anyone wanting a specific purple badly enough could run them a few times for enough tokens for a guaranteed chance at them (beats a hell of a lot of other games' epic loot systems).
"My rant of COH Aug 2010" would have been a better thread name.
Your number 2 was my biggest problem with the game, I had this awesome character a native american chick with weather powers like storm but soloing defender was like impossible and it just didn't work too good with a controller build. I still get a bit sad I was never able to fully get into that character the way I would have liked to.
I played COH a bit around the launch of expansion and have to say it was still the same fun game that it has always been, but that too is it's problem it's still the same game it has always been.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
PVP was great before issue 12, after issue 12 it basically drove all the true pvpers away, including me. I wasn't your typical sneak around stalker or defiant sucking blaster, I played dominator most often (worst pvp AT at the time) before dominator got the damage buff, but after issue 12 it's like playing chess, you make a move then you're stuck for 10 seconds while you wait for the opponent to retaliate (reduced movement speed and longer actions and no stacking).
Overall the game is still fun and from time to time I resub to play it, still love my dominators and scrappers, I haven't bought Going Rogue and I don't think I'll ever bother.

Defenders can solo now with no problem.
Don't worry you can't tell fanbois anything.
I tried the same thing on the steam forums, and is all I recieved factless hurrdurr.
2days to 50?
However this game definitely wins at...

Although its a toss up in the balance category, between Maplestory, League of Legends, and "CoX".
