Hey all

Which MMO have you played lately that was not in the top 5 MMORPG list that was actually good and deserved more credit?

Darkfall - very good sandbox fantasy game.  I wasted a lot of time just roaming around, exploring the areas.  Closest thing to Elder scrolls Oblivion online (although mortal online might take the cake).

Fallen Earth - not as good as darkfall but fun nonetheless.  I also liked how everything that dropped was useful in some way.  Hoarders will have a feeding frenzy in this one.

    There's a list?

Well each game has a rating/hype meter next to it which is a complete joke btw.  Half the games on there with a high rating got there because people hyped it to holy hell and then when it was released, the hype rating carried over even when the game sucked.  Also, people downrate games they don't like even when they haven't played the game for one reason or another which is the case for games like World of Warcraft and Darkfall.

    It's a hugely flawed system.

I think I said that in three and a half words.

Mortal Online would be my pick.

    Runescape and Dofus.

Runescape has the best quest system among all MMOs in my opinion.

Dofus is a jewel among today's MMOs ;) A Completely different game than all the game out there today in terms of the way its played.

On the list I see games people generally claim to be pretty good except two games which just makes me laugh.

    @ OP

    Aion...STO....WAR...AoC....

    This is not a game.

i'd vote for darkfall. it's a great game. before dark fall. i played all games. from asheron's call with 6 accounts and everquest also 6 account. and even wow 3 accounts. all other games.

i always heated pvp. but i read up on darkfall and joined in beta. i live skil based games. i played beta and quit a month after release. just hated the game mainly for the pvp .

but 6 months later i thought why not try it again. and wow i was right i love darkfall. and the pvp is great. the only thing i did wrong the first time. was not join a clan.  once you join a clan (which i recomend after your first week playing the game) newbies are better unclanned in starter cities, cus whn clanned enemy clans can kill you in starter cities.

once in a clan. i had over 30 folks to help teach me the game and teach pvp.  then the clan wars. taking on other cities and using boats and mounts to attack. raiding them while they sleep. became so much fun.

this is why i own 3 accounts. 2 to harvest and help my crafting and gold needs. but also to play the game with differnet races.

wolf and orks my fave ares so far.

if you like pvp and really like pvp, hardcore the darkfall is for you.  when you kill you get all thier gear and inventory. when you die they get it all. unless lucky to have friends or clan mates to pick it up for you if they survive. risk vs reward.

darkfall should be in top 5

Um .... *looks around nervously* ... k, for a few minutes I played ROSE.  I quit after fighting a jellybean. Not proud of that.

Dragon Saga and Shin Megami Tensei Online Imagine for me, one I love the Anime/manga style and the ease of playing it with my firends, and the other just because the game series is awesome and I like catching demons and fusing them like in the atlus games so to me both are a fun way to kill time and play with friends and make new ones.

    Ryzom

    • Full sandbox

    • Skill based

    • Ability to create own skills through Stanza system (simple to use, complex to master)

    • Non-generic fantasy (alternate fantasy)

    • Open world with real seasons, and weather patterns

    • Ecology with animal migratory patterns inc predator and prey

    • Crafting system that allows players to create fully customized items based upon components obtained by either foraging or by hunting creatures (body parts), with have different properties (lighter, or more durable, or provides more proection against a specifc type of damage, etc)  based upon the type of creature

    • Non-scalable mobs * i.e. none of this Oblivion type PvE where the mob scales with your level - no such thing as starter areas, because there are [packs] animals / creatures that can - and will - smack the living snot out of you, and treat your carcass like a rag doll

    • Lore based RPG **

    • Factional PvP

    • Player run governments making ingame changes

    • GM and player based events

    • RING events (ability for players to create non-permanent customisable events - think Never Winter Nights)

    • Non-AAA subscription price i.e. doesn't whack you for $15 per month, after making you paying a $49 dollar for the box / key, then open up a cash shop to hoover up nickle and dimes from your trouser pocket until it hits lint

I've only played for a couple of days (21 day trial) but already I'm staggered, amazed, and impressed that this game originally came out in 2004 and is delivering a sandbox experience for whom some have wanted (arguably closest to SWG pre-NGE game experience).

The problems? It has ran into its own fair share of difficulties, inc bankruptcy and the game not being available for 10 months a few years back (I think?); some do not like the art-style; the game didn't hold one's hand, or didn't always reveal what was possible i.e.how much sand is in the sandbox for players; small, but friendly population **; player-economy is borked (see small, but friendly population); and no-one knows about the game because of lack of advertising.

** From speaking privately with a long-time player, who has now quit, the lore based RPG aspect is being diluted in favour of PvP in terms of power-gaming (inc. inenvitable smack-talk) masquerading as RPG. The game is changing for good or ill (as Rockgod99 predicted) - so whilst I have highlighted the issue, it all depends on where you sit in the spectrum on Lore / RPG ingame.

    MMORPG.com Ryzom forums here.

In all honesty, besides maybe GW2, I can't see myself playing another AAA title again, because such titles do not offer me anything that I require. If not Ryzom, then I'd play either Darkfall or maybe Fallen Earth. I say this as a casual player, who after the festive period, will have 4 hours a week max to play (just Saturday evening).

The Game List in MMORPG.com website is a joke. I wrote a topic complaining about it and gave a suggestion on how to make it better. It's a shame because it's a very strong tool MMORPG has here and if used correctly can eventually become a true reference to players and publishers to lean to.

I only complained because I care, but i guess the list will remain like this for awhile.

Dofus - While it has its faults, it dares to be completely different from any other MMO and it's fun to play.

Wizard101 - This game is only for children, your actions have no impact on the world, and still I find myself constantly making more strategic choises and praying that my character won't die than in most of the MMOs meant for adults.

Definitely Darkfall since I consider it the best MMORPG that I have ever played. It has changed what I expect from MMORPGs and now I find it very hard to log into any other games. Nothing coming out anytime remotely soon that I am even slightly interested in besides GW2 for quick 20 min instant PVP sessions on the side. I will never go from NPC to NPC while waiting for autorun to get me to my floating exclamation point destination ever again.

    Darkfall

    Dark Age of Camelot

    EverQuest

    Ultima Online

pretty much any MMO released before WoW was lightyears ahead of where the genre is now.

Anarchy Online all the way most amazing community and it just has so much going for it i love it and always have my account up to 5 up for it lol

I agree that Ryzom is one of those rare gems.  I got in the beta and continued to play for a while after.  When WoW released and all my friend went there I followed them.  Ryzom offers so much it is amazing.

Other games, Mabinogi and Megaten both have awesome combat.  I love the pets of Megaten but Mabinogi offers more in ways of sandbox play.

Dofus is the closest thing I have find to Final Fantasy Tactics.  I used to play the heck out of that game on the PS1.

Fallen Earth is a crafters heaven.  Hmm, I might go back and try this one again sometime.
