Just because it's Star Wars

KareshKaresh Member UncommonPosts: 242

So I'm somewhat looking forward to this game, but the ONLY reason is because it's Star Wars. I could honestly care less about who's making it, or what it promises.

So how many people feel the same way? Or why do you want to play it?

I want to play because: "Every NPC will have voice overs."

  • Mr.AwwsomeMr.Awwsome Member Posts: 48

Same. Although the voice overs and the element of story does make it a little more interesting and possibly immersive.

Talking bout the issues..and keepin it funky.

Because its star wars is what made me interested in the game back in 2008.

Come 2011 not so much, sadly SWGs proved the star wars name isn't enough to sell a game. So hopefully the marketing people over at EA will show why the game can stand on its own as an MMO without relying on the star wars name. Though I am sure they have to pay a lot of money to use it.

Heh, watch out...that was my reason for playing FFXIV; just because it was Final Fantasy.

What part of the game is bothering you? And what demos did you see that turned you down?

I'd still advise you to maybe play through the free month atleast.

Though I am a huge supporter of the game, it wasn't Star Wars per se that has me wanting to play it. In fact, most of the true fan bois know the lore to such depth that I have no idea what they are talking about. To be honest, I just don't care at all about the lore. I'll learn the games lore soon enough.

I was looking for a new game, preferably in a sci fi type of realm with a story that makes me want to quest again, pay attention to the story, and offers a lot of different options to level including PVP and side things to do. It had to have large open worlds that were more open than AOC or EQ2. It had to have decent graphics and animations and a social aspect similar to Lord of the Rings Online. It had to have a world that has that certain mix of charm, music, those small things that make me want to look around or scroll the camera up and down when I'm inside of something. It had to feel smooth, epic in scope, and just be fun so I want to log in time and time again. If it achieves that, I'll be happy. The fact that it shares the name with a few movies I loved was just icing on the cake for me.

The Star Wars aspect of the game is what first got me interested in reading up on it, but that is not what kept me interested.  I have been looking for a new MMO for a while now since I a getting bored of my current one after six years of playing.  I have played a LOT of fantasy games and to be honest, while fun, they just don't excite me so much any more.  Science Fiction with it's element of "possibility" has a much strong pull for me nowadays.

On top of that, I am drawn to this game based on the excellent track record that BioWare has for me.  I have played many of their games and I have yet to be disappointed.  Now I know that their games are not for everyone, but they have worked out for me.

After seeing the more recent game play videos I have become hooked.  Up until then I was sure I would take a look at this game, but not sure I would buy it.  Now I am ABSOLUTELY sure I will buy it.  The graphics seem excellent, the animations are superb, and the art style is pretty good even if I think they could do better.  Then add on the ability to "live" the story or just skip it if you want, an excellent crafting system (from what I have seen so far), my own starship (really, how cool is that!), interesting PvP (I normally avoid pvp, but this I will have to try out), huge open worlds, and so much more.

Heck, if this game is even half of what it claims to be (and I am confident BioWare will make it everything it claims to be), then it will be about five times or more than anything else being released in the MMO world today.   That's just at launch.  They have even hinted about stuff they will be looking at doing AFTER launch to expand improve.  That impresses me as well.

Anyways, being Star Wars and a SciFi game is what interested me in the beginning, being made by BioWare is what made me decide to read up on it, but the game recent footage I have seen is what is really getting me excited.

"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"

tbh, when one of my guild m8 linked E3 "Deceived" trailer more than a year ago on our forum... i just said "lol someone is trying to create new SW MMO, heh, some people will never learn"...

this year it was "Hope"... and i got it... hope ... i was already burned out with WoW had few months of AOC and WAR behind me, and started to look around for something new...

and what hit me was info i didnt noticed year earlier... its not "someone" its BW, and i was already a fan of DAO and ME... i was curious, i said ill gave it a try, and got KOTOR, still didnt play KOTOR1 as it have huge problems with W7, but somehow i managed to play KOTOR2,

and now i simply love the idea of KOTOR+ME+DAO in open WOWlike world, and more info i get, more hooked i am, already hyped half of my current WoW guild and most of friends from previous guilds and other MMOs :)

so for me its not "just becouse it's SW", rather "just becouse its BW" but at the end i think it should be "just becouse it's worth it" ;)

    edit

fun part is, some of my guild friends currently play only pvp, as thats one thing left in WoW that gives them some adrenaline and higher heart beat (after over 5 years of end game raiding there is a feeling of "we've seen it all in this way or onother") and when i asked them to interest a bit in TOR at first there was a lot of :

"meh, i liked DAO and ME, but MMO currently means PVP for me, and they dont say too much about it"

... few weeks and i hit them with one simple info :

"U guys remember what kind of PVP U said lately was the best ?"

"yeah we loved WAR couse of PVP but its dying"

"Mythic recently joined BW group... they are now called BWMythic... some of them propably will have they hands in TOR pvp..."

hahaha, now they are more hyped than me and they link me new info they find anywhere on game sites :D

Why do I want to play TOR? Well, first it's based on Kotor series, which I loved. Secondly it's Bioware who has never let me down. I've enjoyed every game of theirs I've played starting with Baldurs Gate. That it's Star Wars isn't that important to me, there are many Star Wars games, but I've only really enjoyed a few of them. Lastly I'm bored of the usual fantasy themed games and am unwilling to commit to Eve, so I'm looking forward to this sci-fi based game. Oh, it also helps that it's not in the time period of the movies.

I want to play because the combat and gameplay looks solid and it has real discision making elements

    Everything else is just icing

  • pierthpierth Member UncommonPosts: 1,494

The Star Wars IP especially in the KoTOR timeframe has me very interested and I'll probably play for that reason alone. However from what I have read on the game (and I'll admit I'm not really up to date) it seems as though it will cater mostly to the solo crowd, so I'll probably go into it with the mindset of it being another KoTOR RPG rather than a MMO. If it has similarly disappointing item-based endgame as what I've played already I'll most likely hit cap on a character or two and quit.

Instead of writing a list, ive watched alot of the footage on youtube, and the ones posted here at mmorpg.com. As for trying i i prolly will give it a shot when my brother buys it ill borrow his account here and ther to give it a chance. But all in all after compareing the 3 games i was looking into heavily (swtor, tera, and guild was 2) I just cant realy get exited about this anymore.. tera looked great.. at first and now i just think of it as garbage. thoe i know it may be great it just turns me off. this game still has my intrest. The problem is that i just have the gut wrenching fealing i would love it for a little while.. maybe a month.. maybe 6 and then be so fed up i would rather stab myself then play. Again, nothing against the game with no doubt will it will be amazing.. Bioware + starwars = win! lol but in the end, the only game comeing out that has my doing backflips for is Guild wars 2 man..I just think its the better game from the givin information. Its just what im drawn to now. cant help it haha

Think there is space for a quality Sci-fi MMO (!) with blasters and other gadgets and different ways of doing quests that are more story driven and a huuuuuge world or 16. Initially the combat and classes looked very weak, but they both have steadily improved and if that keeps going together with the storylines then it will be one to watch.

You might want to do some more reading up pierth.  This will only be a solo game if you CHOOSE to play it that way.  It is actually being well designed to encourage teaming, such as making the "moral" choice decisions and consequences intention based instead of based on what the team chooses to do.  This way if you want to do the "lightside"option for the points, but the team chooses the "darkside" option, you still get you "lightside" points because that is what YOU intended to do.  That really opens up a lot of freedom for the players on a team.

The opposite ; Playing because Bioware are the developers. The fact that Star Wars is the IP being used is a bonus, bearing in mind the creativity coming from Bioware to introduce new cannon and timeline. Even Hard core star Wars fans like yourself may appreciate what Bioware add to the game.

Ill prol try it. It took a lot of guts  for Bioware to go after this one. There are also a few ideas they have going that I am curious about. I am a Star Wars fan but ..... well not gonna beat the dead horse.

IP alone isn't enough to make a game good. And if you base your gaming decisions on IP alone, why not play something sucky like current SWG or STO?

    PLAY WURM ONLINE!! www.wurmonline.com

Would it not be SW themed I would try a free trial someday.

As it's SW I'll get the collector's edition but they will have to convince me really hard to keep subscribed.

I can't wait for it because of the Rail Shooter Space System.

I hate space systems where I have to choose which direction to go in.

I like to just get in a damn space ship and start shooting things. I don't want to have to worry about having to turn or avoid things.

    Screw that.

SWTOR Tunnel Shooter ftw! Can't wait!

Its based 300 years after KOTOR 2. Each character or class gets their on story line which is cool. There is grouping and will be raids and PVP. Most all MMOs is solo or group based until you get max level and then players get into raids anyways. Well i usually push my limits on a new MMO and out level my friends so usually soloing anyways.
