DC Universe Online: The Quiz: DC Universe Online Edition

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Quiz this week centers around a game that MMORPG.com's Drew Wood has been spending a lot of quality time with lately: DC Universe Online. See if your knowledge of DCUO is up to snuff by taking the quiz. Let us know how you did in the comments below.

Ladies and Gents, it's Wednesday again and that can really only mean one thing; Quiz Day. With all of the turkey and pie (and other such foodstuffs) filling my festive belly, I thought to myself, "Drew, everything is so crazy and hectic right now, why don't you write a quiz on a game you're currently playing?". Then I Thought to myself "Drew, that's a fine idea!". Therefore, I give you, with less than a month until its release, The DC Universe Online Quiz!

Curious. What is it about Booster that draws you to him? I can't say I've ever run into anyone who calls Booster Gold their favorite superhero.

I was greatly disappointed at first that Light wasn't in, but I've gotten past that and I hope it will be added in the future. My main concern is that Light may end up being treated as if it can only be used with one of the spectrum-rings. This ignores Alan Scott, Jade, Dr. Light (both) and  the Ray to name a few light weilders.

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

Not sure why I'm writing in the quote block, but who cares, really.  Booster Gold forever has a soft spot in my heart for several reasons, but I think the most obvious of which would be his inability to ever be what he thinks he is, which gives for a really spunky, sort of underdog spirit that I quite enjoy.  You can't help but cheer for him, even when he's being a complete tool.

Now that is freakin funny. I never really looked at it the same way, i mean i noticed he was like that but it didnt make me enjoy him for it, i personally was more annoyed. But he does usually make me laugh. :p

Has Booster Gold been on TV or anything, or is something like that planned? There will be something like that or market reasearch which has resulted in him being picked.

I guess Im glad someone likes this game.  I canceled my pre-order with Best Buy after spending a good solid week in beta.

They've taken a PC game, crippled the UI to make it fit a consule style game, created SIX powersets with copy and paste type powers and added LOTS of bugs and crashes.

I know, it's beta, but still.  I could have worked through all of that, but what killed it for me were the 'Roles'.  Controller, Healer, Tank, Damage.  Sounds good on paper, and CoH did an amazing job with this.  DCOU?

TANK:  Tale less damage, do ALOT less damage.  No taunts, no way to manage agro, so no way to protect the team.  You will usually be the last one to die as the boss kills all the others while you smack on him with your reduced damage.

HEALER:  The Devs turned OFF power recharge during battle to force people to team with Controllers.  So, if you don't have a Controller on your team, you have enough power for one big heal, or a  couple small ones, then you are out of options.  Damage is greatly reduced in this role, so once you run out of power.... not much else for you to do.  Even with a Controller on the team, power is still next to nothing.  If you like healing people, then DCOU is NOT the game for you.

CONTROLLER:  Again, reduced damage here.  The controller's powers have a chance to Hold mobs for a few seconds.  Sound good?  Crowd control you say?  Well, while the game mobs can hammer on you with full damage while you are held, any mob held by a player is IMMUNE to damage.  So half the time the team stands around and waits till they can attack the mob.  The power regeneration granted by the Controler... miserly.  Again, in a fight, EVERYONE will run out of power soon, and be left with weapons.

Overall, a game that looks good, plays fast, but has no depth and is crippled by consule forced changes and really questionable game design.

Hey look, a DCU plug on this website! Haven't seen one of those in a few hours!

I played the beta long enough to get to Harley Quinn, only to find they had decided to have her voiced by a man, apparently.

I've been curled up in a ball under my desk, sobbing, since.

I've played in the beta for a few hours and it's hopeless... DCUO has possible the worst first hour of gameplay I've ever been part of. It's so bad. It's all just button mashing, no skill, no effort required...it's so dumbed down for console it's painful.

I've stopped my order...and feel guilty for having an all access account as I know my money will be used to fund this dreadful game. I'd rather my money go to vanguard.

Strange how SOE-Austin brags about how they've spent 5 years on this UT3 mod, only to still be making drastic changes to skill trees and class balance two weeks prior to release.

Not to mention the countless PVP hacks and exploits that look as though they're going to be with the game on the 11th.

Really hard to ride the hype train on this one.

I like six powersets unlike most games where everyone has the same powers they use constantly over and over there is acutal room for builds in this game. Two people of the same powerset skill tree can have completely different builds. Each one is then more inherently unique.

First off the roles is probably the best part as a healer I don't have to sit around waiting for a group like I did in coh with the controller class. I can do my missions and when a group comes along I change rolesand can be effective in both roles when in them.

TANK:  Tale less damage, do ALOT less damage.  No taunts, no way to manage agro, so no way to protect the team.  You will usually be the last one to die as the boss kills all the others while you smack on him with your reduced damage.

Unlike most games they assume you'll use your equipment to keep up with your role. As an example I have a full set of pvp armor which expands my toughness, etc but I get less defense since toughness is different from the stat that regularly takes damage in pve circumstances. Hence if you keep an eye on that stat (I forget what its called I think presence) and use your equipment to add to it then you'll have aggro based on that stat. When fighting black canary and green arrow anytime I started attacking aggro would immediatly focus on me.

I have a shapeshifting nature user and I don't really have that issue. There is more then using controllers to regen your energy. It is not all that difficult either to keep the party decently healed. Unlike most games you're not healing their whole bar in one ability though. It creates a challenge and makes it not as easy as most games out there.

Maybe that was a bug but I've hit held mobs and killed them. If you are smart and not just spamming powers you will very rarely run out of energy. I think we have to see it for what it is you couldn't get the pacing down which is fine but don't blame the game for that.

Overall, a game that looks good, plays fast, but has no depth and is crippled by consule forced changes and really questionable game design.

Difference of opinion as I was wanting something new and they delivered. Could the game be better ? yes but I believe its one of the best games near launch that I have participated in. I've participated in alot of betas and desptie all the moaning and complaining  it is not all that bad.
