The negativity about any upcoming game is appalling........  YOU HAVE PLAYED LVLS 1-20.... BARELY 1/3 OF THE GAME..........

Most the content is undiscoverable in beta.

I am pretty sure that is all rifts.  They have recieved something of 100+million for all their projects.  Trion has this goal of being a Network of games for the future.

Where the game does lack ambition.  There is something to be said for them releasing it when its ready. Which is seems they are on track to do.

I stated the game was ok.  I was commenting on the early feel of the game in contrast to its budget.  My main opinion on that game.  Is that it is Solid,  rather boring questing,  and lacks ambition.  The game has great effect on others who love it.  I am not one of them.

Actually you can see where the money went with war.  Into crap.  But you see and feel the crap around you.  Its like someone Gold plated a bathroom and passed it off as casino.

I don't see rift developments being that insanely expensive.  Its basically like they have 10 or so PQs that randomly spawn.  War had more then that number in the first tier.
The quests are not that new revolutionary or of extreme quality.  Tons of smaller budget F2P games have similar questing quality wise.
I have not touched dungeons or pvp so it could be there.  I am just not seeing where the 50 million went.  It is insanely stable and bug free.  Which could be it.

That's because it's not an '87 Impala with 27 inch rims.

They spread the money around on infrastructure and consistency. Now they just need to work on optimization and it'll be good to go.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Has there ever been a game that you didn't like the first 20 levels and then it suddenly got better and amazingly turned around into a game you liked? That has never happened for me so I doubt that Rift is any different.

    Collector's editions are scams.

These days, 50 million isn't really that much, not to large business ventures and entertainment media like movies and games which tend to make the initial cost back off of box sales alone.
It's all conjecture really, but I can imagine quite well all the things that require funding.  Gotta say, the sound is top notch as is the coding of the game.  Don't forget money to market the product too.  And the small fact that we have only been shown the first 20 levels of the game.  That's like showing me just Tortage in AoC which is only a small portion of the game.

Cept AoC blew hard after tortage, when I was on trial soon as I left tortage i was dumbstuck asking myself "what the hell happened to the good game i was playing?" and promply quit. This could be another aoc where lv 1-20 is like tortage then it goes downhill fast.

I'll say that this is one of the better arguments against that I have seen posted.

I love how many comments bash the size and quality of a game when they have only seen the content up to lvl 20.

For some people, thats all theyneed to see. As far as quality goes. It s not like when I hit level 21, the combat is all of a sudden going to be fluid and fun.

I am a little too lazy right now, well i am eating, but you need to look up the license of the Gamebryo engine.Licensing can usually take up a huge chunk of a games development cost.

There is also other things like licensing speedtree, and other software ,i really havn't done enough homework on Rift to know exactly what was done for development.Sometimes games contract out things like the music or sounds.

I actually would not be surprised by a 50 million cost ,but it does sound a little over board.

a high number of staff is 100,easy to round off and at an average of say 60k a year is 6 million a year.figure 4 years developement, then adds up to 24 million right there. This is a very reasonable number, espcially if TRION doesn't break any laws and does pay their staff the tons of overtime that game developers usually create. Then there is many other costs, the few high up devs give themselves ridiculous salaries, they put their grandmother, granfather, mother in law and goldfish all under the payroll it can really add up after a while.

Then they goto expos/shows and charge those expense to the company, add a few vehicles to the company expense.

Usually or most of the time, game developers have sponsors or investors, this is why game releases are so fake. They always tell you about how devs take their time, well once that budget is near chewed up,you can bet the release is coming fast.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Really? Because I didn't start feeling that in WoW till post 40 when you got your first mount (way back when) and started getting to your last skills in your talent tree. As a matter of fact - Most people back then (before the dual specs and this and that) would tell you that leveling up is COMPLETELY different than how you will play in a group or raid.

I felt my combat as a ranger was actually quite fun. Once you start getting things from 2 or 3 of your souls that can really open up the game (I liked the idea of being an archer with teleporting for defenses). Obviously I couldn't hope to achieve this really with the 20 level cap.

Seems naive to judge what a game has to offer based on a limited beta version. Too many people forgot that this was a BETA TEST and not a free trial.
