Actually what is causing new players to quit is vets beating the crap out of them and not giving them a chance to get to know the game. I'm still trying to continue playing but it's getting so old being killed over and over by my own race. It really seems like the vets want this game to fade away. Fix this and then fix the grind..
Grind has been fixed for the most part. Find a golem ffs, if you are that worried about it. I knew where several were in Yssam. DF is a GROUP PvP game, the FFA part provides opportunity. Full loot provides consequence. Would you keep playing if it wasn't Full Loot? Non consequencial loss destroys the immersion. If I want to die/respawn with all my gear, I'll play Black Ops/BFBC2. I earned/crafted/looted all my gear. I did it, the game doesn't just give it back.
As far as vets beating up on newbs, that's inevitable, but provides a few lessons. First, that friends are good. I would go so far as to say non-social people or solo type players should just avoid DF, EvE, apparnently MO as well. If you don't understand that, what is it you don't understand?
New players either learn that they should work together and become a part of something larger than themselves, or they get crushed underfoot. It's really as simple as that. Group up and learn the mechanics or stay as close to NPC towers as possible and constantly whine about how this game is about vets killing newbs.

Darkfall is not a game of consequences. Allignment system is pointless, everything is arc, towers can't stop crap and i've seen noobs get griefed in npc capitals, because nothing works as it should. All the vets, grief, and zerge clans have so many supplies saved up that they really don't risk much doing anything, and their is no consequence for going out and griefing noobs all day( and for a couple clans, thats what they're based around and u dont need expensive supplies to do it.) Only when your a noob does any consequence or risk/reward exist because it is so stupidly easy to get supplies when your at a vet or competitive status.
As for grouping up.. ya that certainly works, just ask new who gets bind camped nightly....with NO consequences. And i find it funny you even try to compare darkfalls alleged sandbox with eve or mo(which may by buggy but at least has a sandbox core). In both games , having a bad allignment means something and makes it an actual decision of whether to go red or in 0 space.
Alot of ppl in darkfall want to think that there hardcore for playing darkfall, but darkfall is very care bear compared to the other ffa sandboxes. No regional banking, portals to everywhere, and no consequences or decisions to do whatever stupid crap you want. Fix allignment, arc clans, global banking, and make travel mean something, and add actual sandbox features then claim its a hardcore sandbox.
And whether you want to call it grind or a gap, it's obviously a problem or this game wouldn't have such a horrible retention rate. Thers also wouldn't be macroers and afk swimmers in every clan city.
edit: and just for clarification, whether the grind is a problem is a matter of prospective of whether you think grind should be shortend but everyone has everything, or if grind should be the same but theres less of a gap between vet/noob, either way, the game needs more content in addition to those changes.
Removing grind from Darkfall isn't an easy task. It is the same as if you would removed leveling from WoW - there would be not much left of the game because both games are very similar in design, both are built on leveling.
Darkfall without level grind will be even more shallow and content lacking as it is currently.

let me try to understand you right. You think if we lessen the level grind, Darkfall would be more shallow? In other words Darkfall is a shallow game with a huge grind?
Are you Koreans for real?
Darkfall starts when you have a hgh level and pvp viable char, and the game have more content than most games I have played. Come on I dare you, does WOW, AOC, WAR or any of your other PVE mmos have more content than Darkfall? What you grinders don`t understand is that in Darkfall players are and make the content. The repetitive boring movements you seem to love are NOT content. In a game like Darkfall it`s just a waiste of time.
Imagine a siege without players,
Imagine a seatower without players,
imagine a largescale battle without players.
Imagine attacking a player city without players
It`s hard to imagine isn`t it. The content means shit without players. Now lets imagine your world of killing thousand upon thousand of NPCs without players. Yeah I thought so, it`s a dreamworld for you. You grinders are the curse of Darkfall. You defend a system that kills the content this game have. My wish is that you go back to Linage 2 or whatever Korean game you came from. When AV reduce the grind so much the Koreans get bored and leave, then the grind is fine.
Read my post again, slowly and couple of times and maybe you will understand...
Hint:
Imagine Darkfall without any leveling, you would start with maxed out skills.
You both in a weird and complementary way right and wrong.
Everyone starting with maxxed out toons would be horrible and same time Darkfall offers a lot of content that hasnt anything to do with maxing your char.

Then cry babies would cry about the grind for gear. I like the way darkfall is right now. Would be better if there were skill caps or something like eve ships where you can do everything, just not all at once.

But for now either deal with it or play M&B/MO.
Come on, you can do better than this. Why wouldn`t players cry about gear, when they already do. You can atleast pull the risk vs reward card when it comes to gear. And the cry babies already play.
-Buhu, I`m forced to level magic
-Buhu, fire magic have a knockback
-Buhu my endgame bow need another rare ingot.
-Buhu WOF prevent me from running like Usain Bolt
-Buhu you got all the citys so we can`t get infernal gear
I agree the alignment system was broken. I have also supported regional/local banking from the very start. I have also supoorted putting certain herbs/ore/mats in specific areas of the map to ensure trade/bartering is happening. I wouldn't say it's full of carebears though.
Playing with maxed out toons, they are looking for something to do now. This is the challenge they will run into i think. I'm comparing this to EvE. If you live in 0.0, it requires some planning/resources to move stuff back and forth. Granted that's easier now than it used to be. However, in DF there is going to be little motivation for trying to take lands if those lands don't provide something.
In EvE there are r64 moons, wormholes, certain systems that are -10..that are very lucrative to hold. What's the difference in lands in Alfar vs Ork land? Nothing. I think if they figure that out, and are now starting to specialize some of the classes it will start to diversify people.
I hope DF never becomes about gear. Gear should matter some, but not be the deciding factor in equally skilled people. I mean a sithra vs a leafblade will matter. It's like T1 vs T2 in EvE, same difference.
I hope they get it together. I have listed my complaints in other posts. I will not be returning until that happens. I do however want the game to keep getting better. I also am happy that AV is trying to give customers something that they want, no matter how many people want to pee in the pool.

sadly this. But some things should be changed. Removing the 'you are now 100" bonus from everything would do wonders.

Leaving rubbish of Tasos statement aside, the problem is not the lack of content in terms of amount alone but mainly design of current content and design of the game altogether. The game, imo, has 'enough' content if only it was done right.
The game is simply not made to be PVP viable from day one.
I am all for having a conversation about an RPG without a leveling system(see note), however, its important to understand that skill/level progression has been the backbone of RPG for decades. Not saying that because its been around for so long is why it needs to stay but I am saying it needs to not be disregarded as unimportant. Questions like, 'if leveling has been the birth of RPG its clear that people like it, why?' etc. It needs to be on the table and it needs to be taken seriously, even if eventually removed.
*(leveling in weeks for a game you play for years might as well be no leveling system and it would make sense to just remove it).
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
You probably won't even need to grind after the expansion comes out . .. just do what you want and use meditation points. Since this is a full-loot game there will always be something to grind for though, and as each new skill comes out or is adjusted, theres more to grind. In a way it will never end, but at least there should be funner ways to grind than the current system of repetitive tasks means faster skill gains.
They have already stated that they think 4-6 is too long to become viable and that stats/skills will be added to the meditation system along with quests being revamped and something to pay for meditaion points besides gold (quest rewards?)
There are already all sorts of hints as to what they have been working on . ... like chaos chests and fun hulks. Perfect for testing having dymanic quests that are fun to do repeatedly someday by having to find a randomly spawned chest in a certain area (chaos chest mechanics) and they could also create these to be hotspots by not having the quests available all the time and have them available from different areas of the map so that people come from all over when it is available (RvR wars potential right there!). Fun hulks are probably for testing things like caravans to be added to the game. They have already stated that they will be localizing banking somewhat. There is plenty of evidence to suggest what could be in the works . ... its all very exciting to me!
They also highlighted someone's suggestion about being able to hire people as assassins. Posters in cities where you can place a bounty on someone and if that person is killed, they get a death penalty for a bit. That would be awesome if they were able to implement something like that!!
