We have just released our pre-E3 preview of Imperator complete with 3 exclusive screen shots! Last April, our own Dana Massey took a trip to Mythic Entertainment to take a look at the game. This information was under a strict NDA until today...so enjoy! A glimpse of the story is below:
Imperator Online Preview
Article based on visit to Fairfax, interviews with developers, and hands-on demo time.
A couple of years ago, Mythic Entertainment announced that they were working on a second, major, graphical MMORPG to go along with their widely successful Dark Age of Camelot. Imperator Online is that game. Set in a sci-fi world where Rome never fell, the game has clearly evolved since that original announcement, and in early April, Mythic was ready to show off their progress to a throng of game journalists. They promise a polished title that solves many of the problems that have plagued the past few generations of MMORPGs. Time will tell on whether they can deliver, but upon first glance, they seem to be on the right road.
Imperator has been designed as a character-centric game, with an emphasis on personal development. Sound familiar? It should. This is the basis of many single-player-RPGs. Mythic hopes to take that personal approach and apply it to a massive scale. Characters take part in Life Events, which are quests specifically designed not to go kill and get loot, but to advance your character. They define who you are and what you want to be. Through Life Events, you can pursue fame, fortune, heroism, etc. They are the key to preventing you from becoming a faceless peon in a faceless universe. |

Until today, I was tossing this game on the side, with no interest.
Until...I read...End GameS!!!
Now, if 1 End Game interest me and is clearly not dependant on ''lames aspects'' or other end games, this may turn to interest me(my raid hating attitude should start to be known hehe).
I like what I read about PvP been different from PvE, at last, not screwing PvE for PvP reasons, nor screwing PvP for PvE reasons! If done right, I may even end up PvPing more then PvE if both systems are developp nicely...only happen with 1 game in the past, but it CAN happen...as long as I PvP for PvP reasons(if you PvP for PvE reasons, you hate it before you even start it). Maybe PvP can be fun in this game(CoH PvP was almost fun...I play a whole afternoon and they hit close to the mark in my case).
DAoC have always prove that they take flaws in others MMORPGs, and they fix them like nobody else(they themselves where disgrunted players, so they understand what others players may want). Imperator seem to be doing exactly that, but in a very different way...it might hit the right spot for me!
Instead of just dismissing it...they have awaken an interest spike! Maybe!
Soon we will read tons of Imperator OR Vanguard topics! (I say it first niak niak niak)

Mythic did such a great job with DAoC. Hopefully they will have the same success with Imperator. Lets just all wish that the linear system works.
I didn't even care about this game before, but now it is definately the MMO i will be waiting to play.
This is something i've been looking for, an mmo that has a more linear path than typical mmo's, it should give my playing time more meaning and purpose than just running around hitting the crap out of random encounters with mobs.
Even though the linear path looks as if it aims to control and restrict i beleive this approach offers players a more constructive playing experience, something that is lacking alot in all mmo's, i am so happy that a developer has been brave enough to take this approach, i shall now add this game to my buy list.
Looks like this could be interesting - If they do not flood the game with fluff and make everything functional.
DAOC - was a very good game untill Atlantis - hope they see the error of the ways.
loved DAoC endgame, hopefully imperator endgames will be as good or better than DAoC's end games
looking forward to imperator even more now!
This (and Tabula Rasa) already had my attention. Nothibng has changed. I tend to be more of a fan of the futuristic MMOs in contrast to the fantasy genre. I'll be buying this without hesitation. Too bad its launch is a year away.
As reported on Vox Plebis - The Voice of the People (fantastic new fansite for Imperator, recently superceding Imperator Okratas) the official Imperator website has been updated ready for E3 - looks like Mythic are planning on running a live webcam from the show floor.
So what with my competition, Vox Plebis and the official Imperator site you have plenty to whet your whistle for this latest offering from Mythic Entertainment.
This has been a public service announcement from an Imperator fan
