Vindictus.. IN SPAAAAAACE

DirkzenDirkzen Member Posts: 144

If you're currently playing, or have had a chance to try 'Vindictus',  then i'll go ahead and get to the point for you -  think of that game,  but in space.

If you have no idea what the hell i'm talking about, then i'll elaborate a bit more,  and try to break the NDA-lifted ice a bit with a fresh pair of eyes.

Everything you have seen in the screenshots so far.. has been real.  No trickery, no photoshopping,  no clever camera editing to make it look 'just right' for that particular shot.  This game is absolutley $^%&%#-ing beautiful.   From the very first time you see 'The Spire',  (a massive space station you first encounter upon starting),   to the simple act of cruising through a debris-filled junkyard in space..  the visuals never stop.

But, this also has a downside.  The entire game is a very massive, taxing, resource-sucking beast that anything less than a dual-core processor needs not apply.   I don't know much about graphics cards, to be honest with you,  but i'll give you a rough comparison-   I can run 'Crysis' on medium, smooth as silk,   but even with every single thing cranked down...  I lagged my balls off.    Now, this may have just been due to the horrid ping,  seeing how i'm in America,  and the servers are in Germany at the moment,  so don't count yourself out just yet.    (they've also done many updates/overhauls of the graphics and textures to resolve this,  so it may get even better!)

Quests.  Quests everywhere.  Though cleverly disguised as the 3 main types -  'deliver this over there'  'protect these guys over here'  or 'kill this guy hiding out in this debris field over there'     They're working and tweaking on the ones they have at the moment,  and i'm willing to bet they'll be adding a lot more before everythings done.

Want to solo?  Go for it.

Want to group?  Even better.  You'll probably even live long enough to complete the quest now!

Oh yes, another thing.  The A.I.    Its brutal.  ..and I mean BRUTAL.   These bastards will fly in formation,  flank you, and turn you into smoldering wreckage before you even get a chance to strafe around and defend yourself.

No auto-targeting here.   (..not sure if they'll add it later though)   so you have to aim manually.   But, that means they can't lock onto you either.   Dodge.  Strafe.  Barrel roll.   See that asteroid over there?   Hide behind that shit.   Use whatever you can find for cover.

Weapons make a satisfying sizzle as the energy weapon whittles away at your enemies hulls.   Your dual mounted Vulcan chainguns violently rock your screen as you shred apart ships in front of you.

This ain't your older brothers' Eve, son.   This is a fucking shoot-em-up.

Been hanging out for this game for a LONG time, never been lucky enough to get a beta invite, but the OP's description almost makes it sound too good to be true, sounds badass!.

Really looking forward to trying this game. Tried Eve but I would rather watch grass grow then play something that boring.

sounds badass, and I've been looking for a fix in this niche since I stopped playing SWG/JtL. I could only hope it has some of the depth that EVE does, but if combat is that fun, I really couldn't care less at this point. Hell, it's why I play Vind, and that game is pretty shallow, comparably.

The game is amazing, the visuals, the combat, the quests, the story, everything. Although I agree, the game is a litte rough on most computers but the developers have said that the game is not optimized yet so it's to be expected that you will need a good pc to play it. They said that the final version will not be that rough and will have lower requirements :)

The OP isn't too far off.

That said, the game is as shallow as a tiny pothole.  There's no depth and no long term playability here.  You'll have fun for a few days, play for a few weeks and then be bored.  The missions are dull and heartless.

Great graphics though.  He's right about the first space station, i was in awe.

Sounds interesting maybe I'll think about downloading it again. I got invited to the beta long ago but what he says about taxing on your system is true. Game looked great for the 5 seconds I was in, but it was sooo laggy for me I just didn't wanna deal with it at the time.

Does this mean their item shop will be mostly underwear?

I found the game just to content starved. It's basic as a game can be, I wouldn't even say it's an MMO either really since everything is in tiny zones or instanced. It had great potential and it probably would have been a great game 10 years ago.

When you look at the screenshots it looks amazing and something like freelance, but it isn't. Unlike freelancer, all that lovely scenery you see is actually 2d background and unreachable so there is no exploration at all.

I thought I would stick with it until open beta, but soon as I read about an item shop I bailed.  This isn't going to work :/
